To be perfectly honest, I don't know if The Wartime Book Club would merit five starIt's been a very long time since I have awarded a book five stars. To be perfectly honest, I don't know if The Wartime Book Club would merit five stars in general. However, for me, this book ticked all the right boxes. I have been fascinated with the Channel Islands since the first time I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society; consequently, I've done a fair amount of reading and research about the islands and their time under Nazi occupation. Kate Thompson has done an extensive amount of research and the notes at the back of the book and the background she offers are very well worth reading. Perhaps most importantly, the author's tribute to books, reading and libraries woven throughout the book warms my heart. What in the world would be do and where would we be without our libraries? They enrich our lives immeasurably and deserve our support and praise....more
