The trope overlap proved to be too much, second chance romance plus secret wedding plus brother's best friend plus post-cancer grief struggles, with a little just one bed thrown in for funsies, and Gates was a fucking 40 year old annoying man child obsessed with pranks (you know how I feel about grown ass adults obsessed with pranks) who MISERABLY failed the second chance criteria of convincing me it'll actually be different this time.
Honestly would've been a solid forbidden romance if it had been just that, Steele actually had emotions about them being together which made the whole stress payoff satisfying enough bc they actually did have something to worry about in terms of the reaction to their relationship.
But like.........the rest of it........ no ma'am...........more

Apollo and Ridge were fine lmao, in any other pairing I might've been frustrated that after 15 years all it took was coming out for them to be over everything and completely in love, but Apollo's stubborn to a massive fault streak has been well established. I do tend to love the books that heal past traumas and this gave me an adequate version of it in Demitri. Glad I picked this series back up.
One thing that had me screaming the entire book though was K.M.'s dodging of female anatomy at every turn. We're talking about Miller's "sensitive area" or "his steel erection gliding across my bundle of nerves" instead of just saying clit, or my personal favorite, "He slips two fingers into my back hole and his thumb into my front hole." come on K.M. ... just say vag gfsjljgxgn I don't read as much FF romance as I probably should, but I read enough that I'm comfortable with those terms, and it was so funny to see them dodged like that. I don't know if it was because of her comfort level as an author, or a (probably true) assumption that MM readers in general wouldn't want to see that, but it had me rolling.
Second chance romance and I aren't exactly best friends so I have no idea how long it's gonna take me to keep going in the series, but I do want to get to the mechanics and tattoo shop, not to mention this series suddenly continuing, so I'm sure it'll happen eventually....more

Zane is damn lucky Ryan was there to make him interesting because this exact book told through Zane's single POV would have been the dullest thing on Zane is damn lucky Ryan was there to make him interesting because this exact book told through Zane's single POV would have been the dullest thing on the planet. The book was overall still pretty dull honestly, I was even more annoyed with Zane's 'fine's by the end than Ryan was. It shut down any and all conversations for way too much of the book, which is perfectly on brand for Zane's character, it's why he kept saying he was fine in the first place, but it just makes for a sluggish book because we're having the same conversation 5+ times because they can't just have the full conversation. Zane really didn't show any elements of growth on anything either, I was hoping there would be a clear moment of him getting over his mental hang-ups about his finances but nothing. Also, we'd established that both of them were head over ass in love with the other by the end of chapter 1, so there really wasn't that much emotional legwork to do either. So a massive part of the book The mystery was one of the better parts of the book, I had the why figured out pretty early, but the who wouldn't have been my first guess.
All in all, a definite step down from the last couple of books in the series, but it was fine. (I had to lmao)...more

Like holy hell, neither of them were capable of a single action for the entire book without 3-5 pages of dwelling on it, it was exhausting. I was skimming like crazy by the end, I swear the last 50 pages had like 6 pages worth of content. I was incredibly here for the premise of the book, middle school choir teacher transplant from the mainland trying to throw a holiday festival was so good. And then the holiday festival ended up being a B plot at best, (view spoiler)[it was already over before we even got through 50% of the book smh (hide spoiler)], and the whole thing ended up being about Nolan's minor identity crisis and Merry's major abandonment issues? I am so firmly in the latter camp, I couldn't even pretend to be on the fence. This book is so incredibly important, I genuinely think it needs to be studied.
