some of the management i found to be your typical wellness 101, but still true and effective - just not anything that was new to me. i think for someone who is newer to adhd and/or is questioning if they might have it, this would be a great read to learn more.
one thing i felt it lacked in was talking about handling ableism. while i agree it's important to advocate for yourself at work, home, school, etc. there's also the very real reality that many companies and schools are ableist and, esp in the case of work, needing accomodations might be used against you or not fully delivered on. i just wouldn't want anyone to have the expectation that we're in any place yet that everyone is very understanding of disability and has the education or emotional understanding to account for it.
overall, i still found it very helpful and validating and i would def want to keep the resources on hand.
the premise is promising with an older asian hollywood darling and her younger jewish aspiring-director assistant having an accidental rumor suddenly the premise is promising with an older asian hollywood darling and her younger jewish aspiring-director assistant having an accidental rumor suddenly pair them together as a couple... but it unfortunately fell a bit flat for me.
i liked that it handled some tougher issues (#MeToo) but the characters themselves of Emma and Jo could have been expanded on so much more as well as their careers. It's a painfully slow burn as they spend the entire book denying their incredibly obvious feelings for each other and having circular conversations with various characters.
It also was quite unrealistic that Jo would just tell Emma to read some directing books and expect her to be able to have a directing opportunity off that. Like yeah study it and nepotism is real, but in real life Emma should've been directing her own things in her spare time bc that's the hustle now. It also would've been nice to see Emma actually do some directing or try to.
Overall, it was ok.

I can’t help but note yet another thing I don’t hate about Elliot Rochester. I don’t hate his smile. In fact, it isn’t terrible at all.

beauty and the beast meets my fair lady
tessonja odette is quickly becoming one of my new fav cozy fantasy romance writers.
i did feel like it took a bit of time to get into the swing of the story, but once it was there i was invested. bookworm gemma is a jaded but determined societal outcast looking to find her own independence, and elliot is the bitter, proud fae king she must help win a human suitor to break his curse before it's too late.
“That is why fiction exists. It takes us to places we’ll never go in real life, allows us to feel emotions and experiences we might not get the chance to have ourselves.
it's quite fun to watch gemma put elliot in his place, unperturbed by his regal standing, and to watch him slowly give in and adapt to change. the connection between the two grows organically and while this wasn't quite as humorous as a rivalry of hearts for me, there were some wonderful touching moments and a bit of angst.
Maybe books are a strange form of human sorcery. For how else can a story feel so satisfying and agonizing at the same time?
overall, it was a fun retelling even for someone who isn't the biggest BATB fan. i'll definitely be continuing this standalone series for some feel good vibes!...more
“You are accustomed to thinking of fairy tales as make-believe... But they have only ever been mirrors.”
this was my first alix e. harrow book after he“You are accustomed to thinking of fairy tales as make-believe... But they have only ever been mirrors.”
this was my first alix e. harrow book after hearing a lot of hype about the six deaths of the saint. as a longtime big fan of sleeping beauty, i wasn't sure what to expect coming into this, but it was not the opening line:
"Sleeping Beauty is pretty much the worst fairy tale, any way you slice it."
*insert "and i oop-" meme here*
there is a somber undertone to the story, as our fmc zinnia is dying from a fatal illness. but by mere chance, she stumbles into her favorite fairy tale and has the chance to save another princess from her fated doom.
this examines the beloved fairy tale in its many variations from a feminist perspective, as it exists and from modern storytelling POV, but the princesses get to be their own princes in this tale.
the book didn't quite click for me until about a third in, when i finally realized what the overall tone and vibe was going to be. it was definitely different than i expected it to be, but overall enjoyable and a little bittersweet.
I’ve always resented people for trying to save me, but maybe this is how it works, maybe we save one another....more

maybell is a slightly neurotic daydreamer who can't help but be overly optimistic, and grumpy, stubborn wesley ended up winning me over with his hidden sensitivity and thoughtfulness.
i also thought this did a good job portraying how anxiety can present differently in people. i felt pretty satisfied w how maybell ended up handling the situation with her colleague gemma; it felt realistic and right.
