Danielle has found some redemption with this in one of the few trope-y romantasies to catch my attention. The plot was more climactic yet also boring since Bjorn and Freya are already in love and its just a matter of waiting until the conflict ends for them to essentially be together? But still a fun time~...more

I will say, the ending did not hit as hard as I was hoping since I had predicted it early on, and there's not as much excitement as in the first book since Thea's journey is not as perilous. (And way too long and full of Violet just making brash decisions that made no sense). I didn't HATE this but I strongly disliked reading it and it did not live up to expectations. The first half was monotonous and lacking in entertainment- because lets be honest, we’re here for dragons and relationship drama- but the ending somewhat made up for it. I couldn’t find myself to root for Violet since she was so reckless, unlike in the first book. She reads as so pathetic and insecure and whiny. She's also a tier 100 yapper but balks at Xaden keeping secrets during wartime?! FOR EVERYONE'S BEST INTEREST??? C'mon....more

Fourth Wing has all the workings of a hit, action-packed YA novel of the early 2010’s. . . plus smut and of course, dragons. I absolutely sped through this despite its flaws.
The setting was by far the best part. A war college for dragon riders? With multiple challenge sequences and a cutthroat environment that’s also Love Island for a bunch of hot people who could die at any moment? It’s so Divergent Dauntless and so dramatic. ...more

But it did take me nearly a month to finish because WHY WAS IT SO LONG. There are literally two complete plot arcs so I don't understand why it wasn't split into two books.
Though I am so glad there was not a love triangle, I find it hard to believe there was no awkwardness or conflict when it came to Stassy's FWB. A bit too unrealistic for me.
Icebreaker was still was fun and happy and cliche in a satisfying way. Actually maybe I'm just a hoe for hockey romances so idk take this review with a grain of salt....more
