However, getting to the HEA is the fun and sometimes heartbreaking part. If you read an Ellen O'Connell story before, you know that the characters are deeply flawed, three-dimensional characters with spunk and heart who have to struggle quite a bit to overcome obstacles. In the beginning, the cards are stacked against them, but it's oh-so-satisfying seeing them turn this around in their favour.
I read other reviewers complaining about the length, and the novella missing key background information. Like the heroine's first husband, her relationship and the event leading to his and her son's death. They were touched upon, but not in detail and personally, I don't think you're missing out. I agree that this story could've easily been expanded to a full-fledged novel, but publishing a novel you only have so many words to tell your story. The way it is, I'm quite satisfied with how things unfolded, although I did notice some typos in the version I received.
I always enjoy reading O'Connell's stories, they're pick-me-ups when I desperately need them. This one is no exception, so I recommend reading it....more

some really nice and at times moving moments between friends and frenemies. i needed some time to get accustomed to the author's writing style which isn't really my cup of tea. i liked how things were left ambiguous at the end, - i think the author wrapped things up nicely because things are never quite clear-cut. life can be confusing and messy. in fact, people are confusing and messy....more
