Loved the character dynamic and the world-building. Very cool portrayal of the complexities and blurred lines between good and evil. What divides a hero and a villain, and how there can be lines of gray. This felt like all the best parts of an X-Men movie without the superfluous special effects and cheese. Just a very simple, well-written, character-driven story.

The Hazardverse series has been my absolute favorite literary experience. I’m 30 books deep and it just never gets old. I could read 100 books about these characters, they feel like real people and I miss them whenever I’m not reading about them.
This series finale really brought everything full circle, back to that locker room with John Henry forced to face his past and the question of who he was and who he’s become. This story was heartbreaking and I cried for him and for Emery. The overarching mystery of this series also came together in one of the most suspenseful moments GA has written. I was on pins and needles waiting for the resolution.
Again, the friendship between all the couples was lovely and brilliant and hilarious. I love these books with my whole heart.
Tristan James’s narration was amazing per usual....more

The banter in this is brilliant. All four couples riff off each other perfectly. Absolutely hilarious all the way through. Probably the funniest GA book in the Hazardverse. The murder mystery was intriguing and kept me engaged, and it’s nice to see more of Jem and Tean as an established couple, happy but still working on their relationship issues. Highly recommend the audio!...more

The author’s writing is so unique and insightful. It’s only 130 pages but it feels like more, with characters that feel like real people. I love books that manage to pull you into the characters’ little bubble so you feel like you’re living in this small moment of intimacy with them. It’s so sweet and emotional and just a tiny bit sad, and it reminded me of why I love romance so much....more

This story is a brilliantly woven labyrinth that has the reader constantly questioning reality. A slow-burn, sweet and angsty love story between two high school boys at boarding school. A creeping descent into madness, a macabre fever-dream, and a fight for survival against the monsters of the forest and one’s own mind. I enjoyed it, but the ending left me feeling conflicted and reeling. Definitely a story I will remember and maybe even re-listen.
Note: this is a YA psychological horror story with an MM love story interwoven. It is not a romance. I highly recommend the audio....more

Half thriller/mystery, half romance. Dark, heart-wrenching, violent, and suspenseful with a great love story. Noelle and Evan endure a horrific ordeal together as teens, creating an emotional bond between them, but one that also leaves scars that drive a painful rift in their lives. Years later, they’re brought together to solve the insidious web of evil that broke them as children. The mystery was so intricate and intense that I was ravenous for answers. Listened to this in one day.
Definitely recommend the audio, it’s currently free on KU....more

Priest romances usually make me uncomfortable but this one was different. Francis is such a wonderful character. He’s young, sweet, and truly wants to help people. He sees his newly ordained priesthood as an opportunity to speak out against the abuse within the church, abuse he endured as a boy. Vitari is a hardened criminal, a beaten-down mafia henchman, but when he’s sent to kill Francis for his secrets, he simply can’t do it. Francis’s good radiates from him and bleeds into Vitari. Watching them battle with themselves and each other, fighting their own demons and their escalating lust and feelings for each other is so captivating and seductive. They’re both on the run now from those that want to see them dead, and I can’t wait to find out what happens....more

His torture under captivity in the last book has left him emotionally and physically broken and vulnerable. He’s struggling with self-hatred and severe internalized homophobia. Zane is promiscuous and flirty on the surface, but harbors deep wounds of his own, and is immediately drawn to the dragon. The hurt/comfort, gentleness, and passion between these two was so enthralling. I loved every moment. This is a top-5 fantasy series for me. ...more

Jesse’s writing is totally absorbing with lots of metaphors, beautiful descriptions, and quirky characters. I felt like I was in a Wes Anderson film for a good portion.
Because we only get Jude’s POV, I couldn’t really get a handle on who Romeo was at first. He felt like this enigmatic thing, ever changing, because Jude only ever described him using metaphors and there was very little dialogue between the pair in the beginning. But as I got further into the story, that all changed. I let go and just enjoyed Jude’s perspective, his heartache and his passion. The second half became this rollercoaster of emotions, painful and steamy and so good! I loved getting Romeo’s side of the story.
I’m not sure the cheating trope is for me. It makes me extremely anxious, but I’m so glad I read this one....more

This had everything!! Great writing, suspense, mystery, intriguing world-building, an adorable fox, a funny sidekick, amazing banter, sexual tension, slowburn hate-to-love romance, and hot spice. The writing was so good and the audio quality was great too! Highly recommend. Unlike anything I’ve read before. Super high angst, high spice, brutal, twisted and deranged, with dragons, elf assassins, battles, torture, sexual manipulation, and two emotionally, physically, and sexually abused MCs that you can’t help but cheer for as they painstakingly claw their way out misery to get their revenge. Some of the kills were so satisfying. The emotions and attraction between Lysander and Eroan are very subtle, and this first book was giving Game of Thrones vibes and read a bit more like an erotic fantasy thriller than a traditional romance, but the mutual pining and undercurrent of love is there. I’m familiar with Ariana Nash and I know she’ll bring the romance in the subsequent books. This book ends on a cliffhanger.
Yes, this book has a lot of dark themes but none of it feels gratuitous. It all works well within the story. This is not a sweet romance. It’s brutal and twisty and heart-wrenching. But so damn entertaining....more

It’s so unique and the romance is so incredibly sweet with the perfect amount of toxic, jealous, obsessive/possessive tendencies to really stir shit up. I loved both Atticus and Reid, for very different reasons. There were definitely quite a few red flags between them but it all somehow came together and worked. I cannot recommend this book enough. If you love intensely emotional, high-angst romance with beautiful, masterful writing, this is an absolute must-read! The story of Ian and Alek pulls you in from the start. It’s enthralling, mysterious, and complex. Not much is what it seems at the start because of Alek’s habitual lying and toxic behavior, but it all comes together into a gorgeously woven love story.
