This was a wonderful conclusion to this 8 book series. I was so worried that my heart would be broken by the end of this book but the author took pity on the folks who fell in love with her two leads and we were gifted the perfect ending.
This series brings to mind the epic nature of The Lord of the Rings but with a much more entertaining and diverse cast of characters. I loved every minute of this final instalment, even when it pained and worried me.
I was lucky enough, as another author of LGBTQ+ romance, to become friends with DK Girl over the course of the past few years, and even though we live so far apart, we share a similar penchant for having positive queer representation in our stories. She is teaching me that it is meaningful to have some angst in a story, because the bright moments shine brighter as a contrast to the darkness her characters must face.
Thank you so much for this wonderful series, and for two complex and dynamic characters who shall remain close to my heart....more

I was distraught at the end of The Herlequin, with my beloved Pitch in such grave danger! But this book, which is the chronicle of his rescue and so much more, was such a joy to read. Prince Vassago is such a fantastic character, I can't even begin to describe what he means to me. He is so many contradictions but it all makes perfect sense. I loved the way this story developed and the revelations regarding the angels and Lucifer himself, and Pitch and the Simurgh. It was all very mythic and beautifully described. A joy to read over the Christmas Holidays....more

Having taken the Via train to and from Toronto many times, it was cool to ride along as Ben and Caleb got to know each other. I also use anger as a conduit to bravery in social interactions so I totally got Ben's angle. Loved that it made things happen between him and Caleb.
Their interactions were hilarious and believeable, and Burgoine captures the insecurity of two queer teens trying to figure things out.
Would have read it in one shot except I have a demanding family and I had to break for supper. :)...more

Sara Dobie Bauer’s latest release, a darkish Christmas fairytale called He Sees You When You’re Sleeping, is a fascinating paranormal journey through time.
Nick, who is cursed to roam the world on Christmas Eve to give gifts to Believers, finds himself drawn to one particular boy whose tenuous hold on his ability to hope is fraying in the face of terrible circumstances. In the name of helping the boy, Nick becomes involved in a series of meetings through time, and through his involvement with Jack as a child and as an adult, discovers the truth about his own existence.
I’m not a fan of very dark fiction, but this one had enough of a supernatural lilt to give it justification and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Dobie Bauer is the Queen of creating a sensual and gothic atmosphere in her paranormal offerings and this one did not disappoint. I found myself wrapped up in Nick and Jack’s story and pleased by the originality of its delightful essence.

I'm rather claustrophobic, so the asylum in the Fulbourn really did me in, with the maze like and dungeon-istic vibe. I hated that place, which I was supposed to but it also made for an unpleasant reading experience in some parts. This book. THIS BOOK. With the carriage and the forest and the skies, made for a much better time, even though many of the events were terrifying and horrific. I was in some way prepared for it, and I'm so pleased that there were some points of major sweetness and romance and spicy times, to make the bad times even more contrasting. I'm not sure if there is a warning in the blurb about the cliffhanger ending. If I hadn't known about it (I did know) I would have been quite unhappy. But even though my favourite character is in a really awful situation at the end of the book, the author has left me with enough faith in the others that I know, somehow, he will survive. The author's ability to make even the tiniest creatures stand out as incredibly vibrant and loveable characters is wonderful. The characters of Robin and Will Scarlett, and even Sherwood Forest itself were so evocative and wonderful. I enjoyed this book very much! I can't wait to add the paperback to the rest of the series on my bookshelf....more

*spoiler* I loved the disability rep, especially when it concerns a disease where relapse and recovery is the norm. I have Multiple Sclerosis, and what occurs with Epstein-Barre is very similar, although I've never - thank God - experienced the extreme disability that occurred here. Nevertheless, I felt that Avery knew of what she was speaking and the details of Simon's illness and recovery seemed very accurate. I also thought she was bang on with the psychological effects of not being physically able the way you want to be yet not wanting to rely on someone else. Garen's reactions were genuine as well in terms of someone dealing with their partner's illness and slow recovery.*EndSpoiler*
Fans of Avery Cockburn's books will love this charming tale of forced proximity, the challenge of physical illness, and the resilience of love and persistence to help you through tough times....more

I wasn't prepared for the extras, like the chapter headings with Luca's social media handle and his descriptions of Australian specificities. That made the book ever better than it already was.
But I loved Luca, because he was both worldly and innocent, adventurous and timid, and sweet and hardcore. So cute the way he didn't realize the kitten play was kinky as heck. Sure it was soft and sexy but pet play is definitely a niche kink and RJ Moray explored it as well as I expected--very well. And I loved all the emphasis on consent and the variabilities of peoples kinks and needs, and the ordinariness of people trying something and having it not work out.
I thought the character of Sharon was very well done, as the ex-wife who couldn't quite let go. Very realistic.
An excellent, skillful story about a young man discovering his kitty/kinky side. Loved it....more

Ms. McIntyre's writing and her character exploration made this an enjoyable journey for me! The Outlaws as a group were intriguing and I liked the concept of a modern day Robin Hood outfit that stole from rich, unethical corporations. The attraction and romance between the two leads was compelling but the shining star for me was the character of Scarlett. I loved the way their non-binary identity was handled and I thought Katherine did an excellent job of conveying their character. Scarlett was totally a person I would love to get to know!...more

DK Girl lulled me in with a sweet beginning and then almost tore me apart as the story went on. I barely survived this one, folks. But it was so good and heart-wrenching and vividly described, like all the other books in the series. DK Girl is a master at imagery, metaphor and simile. What an emotional and action-packed read! I will be adding the paperback to my collection once it is released on October 20th.
Pitch really came into his own and I will love him always. Points for him not being fond of children and always irritated.
I was lucky enough to have been given a free ARC in exchange for my honest review....more
