This was a wonderful conclusion to this 8 book series. I was so worried that my heart would be broken by the end of this book but the author took pity on the folks who fell in love with her two leads and we were gifted the perfect ending.
This series brings to mind the epic nature of The Lord of the Rings but with a much more entertaining and diverse cast of characters. I loved every minute of this final instalment, even when it pained and worried me.
I was lucky enough, as another author of LGBTQ+ romance, to become friends with DK Girl over the course of the past few years, and even though we live so far apart, we share a similar penchant for having positive queer representation in our stories. She is teaching me that it is meaningful to have some angst in a story, because the bright moments shine brighter as a contrast to the darkness her characters must face.
Thank you so much for this wonderful series, and for two complex and dynamic characters who shall remain close to my heart....more

I'm rather claustrophobic, so the asylum in the Fulbourn really did me in, with the maze like and dungeon-istic vibe. I hated that place, which I was supposed to but it also made for an unpleasant reading experience in some parts. This book. THIS BOOK. With the carriage and the forest and the skies, made for a much better time, even though many of the events were terrifying and horrific. I was in some way prepared for it, and I'm so pleased that there were some points of major sweetness and romance and spicy times, to make the bad times even more contrasting. I'm not sure if there is a warning in the blurb about the cliffhanger ending. If I hadn't known about it (I did know) I would have been quite unhappy. But even though my favourite character is in a really awful situation at the end of the book, the author has left me with enough faith in the others that I know, somehow, he will survive. The author's ability to make even the tiniest creatures stand out as incredibly vibrant and loveable characters is wonderful. The characters of Robin and Will Scarlett, and even Sherwood Forest itself were so evocative and wonderful. I enjoyed this book very much! I can't wait to add the paperback to the rest of the series on my bookshelf....more

DK Girl lulled me in with a sweet beginning and then almost tore me apart as the story went on. I barely survived this one, folks. But it was so good and heart-wrenching and vividly described, like all the other books in the series. DK Girl is a master at imagery, metaphor and simile. What an emotional and action-packed read! I will be adding the paperback to my collection once it is released on October 20th.
Pitch really came into his own and I will love him always. Points for him not being fond of children and always irritated.
I was lucky enough to have been given a free ARC in exchange for my honest review....more
