I love watching Mary grow as a character and even helping someone else who is just like her too find the joy of life again. I enjoyed this short story will Nellie and thought it delightful to see how the girls were getting along as sisters. Unfortunately, my reread of American Girl might be cut short as my library is selling their collection which means I will have to buy AG books as I see fit. Perhaps each month I will purchase a set to continue on my quest to read all the Historical AG books! Here is my current rank per characters.

I only read her books a few times through as a child (I was more of an Addy, Kaya, Kirsten, and Kit in terms of reading AG books and which ones I read over and over again). I loved the Samantha movie and watched that a ton of times as a child, and wished and wished for the doll and all her clothes because I loved all those progressive era clothing (this is American history after all, but also known as the Edwardian period). Overall, Samantha is a kind-hearted girl and is a very good friend. Overall loved her story and glad I did get her doll at last a few months ago. Can't wait to read the other girls!

I think the concept of writing a best friends series and awesome! But I wish it would have been executed better. If the girls each had six books to fully flesh out there story, I think I would have bee n able to better connect with them as characters. Both of their middle books were the more interesting ones out of the series. I just could not help wishing and wanting more out of his series. Out of all the AG series so far that I have read, this one would be my least favorite which is a real shame. There was so many bits and pieces in this series that are great to teach children, but the execution for me was less than desired.
I'm sorry, but I just never cared for this series at all. This volume was no exception, but I will withhold my main complaints for the last book once I'm sorry, but I just never cared for this series at all. I thought this came out of nowhere, but I actually liked the ending. It was calm and showcased how much Caroline had grown in the course of the series. And with that I end my first (and probably not my last) reading of this series. Here is my ranking of the AG books I have read (if I remember correctly this is subject to change once I get past Addy whom I have read before).

I found her love for sailing unique in the AG historical lineup of interests and I also love that she is a sewer like myself. This also developed an interesting plot with the imprisonment of her father and taught me a little bit about a war that does not get discussed enough in US history courses. Wonderful book! ...more
