Its a great piece of literature, amazing, literally Jane Austen should've read this instead of penning Pride and Prejudice!? (I'm joking, I'm going revise my review of Pride and Prejudice.)
This is the classic, enemies to lovers, expect there not, they're actually secretly hating each other, but actually in love...gasp let me clutch my pearls.
Now Marcus or Lord Westcliff (never say they're Christian name) he good at everything, like the only thing he fails out is whistling, and also knowing what consent is.
Man, what I guy, apparently he can seduce and convince everybody, expect Lillian and the reader, like bro just wanted to dominant and control her. (cue horse scene)
But hey, he got a title and money. (but don't worry Lillian at least his title is older then the queens.)
Now the story is about Lillian one of the wallflowers (no man wants an opinionated girl/that's why I'm single #imjustagirl) she's from America, (AMERICA RAHHH) and so needs a husband but again no man wants her or her sister.
But she needs to marry in British society, since they have what she lacks, a title (good breeding).
They go to parties hosted by Lord Westcliff, who's doing business with her dad (he owns a soap company), and I want to mention this Lord Westcliff is FREAKING 35 years old, (dang he's old) and she does make a point in stating him being an old guy (but she excuses it by saying he's really fit...) and she's around 20 to 24 (bro my age range).
So again I would never go for such an old person but that's just me.
They fight, he insults her, and she him (honestly she was more reasonable) but whenever I read chapters of what he was thinking I'll be honest that man was just lusting after her, he'd be like she's annoying and crazy, also I really like certain aspects to her anatomy. (bruv)
Come on, anywho in the beginning her sister and her find a perfume, that literally will help you find love, and so after a game of rounders (last book they did it in they're chemise (gasp)) with the stable boys, Lord Westcliff plays with them and then graciously helps sneak to they're room, but she finds herself alone with him while hiding and bang he kisses her (even when she said NO...MULTIPLE TIMES)
But in the end, idk what happens, I think the perfume got in his head (no hate to her, but his "hate" to like was crazy fast) he falls for her, and is interested. But then another actor comes to stage, Sebastian, or Lord St Vincent, he's a seducer, a rake, and is interested in main girl for her money (he's broke).
So yah, a lot of drama, I wonder who she'll end up with and I wonder if they're is any kidnapping in the story.
i don't know who to recommend this book to, but it kept me engaged...more

Now I've read here and there some harlequin romanceI read this serious like a year ago, and I read it again, and let me tell you it scratched an itch.
Now I've read here and there some harlequin romances, they're fun reads, skip the smut, and you've find yourself, a funny romance book that's outdated.
I liked the main character Annabelle she seemed like a good old English lady, with her morals, yet stuck in a precarious situation of needing money, but never stopping to becoming someone's mistress. And her becoming besties with other wallflowers, was beautiful, it reminds me of my own friends (cries in singleness, and poverty). Obviously she wasn't to relatable because obviously she was a beauty, and the only reason she wasn't getting a man was because of her lack of a dowry.
Then there is Simon Hunt, and ngl him chasing Annabelle, just seeing her one day, and knowing she was the one, every time asking her to dance, guys I feel in love. Him buying every jewelry and cloth at the story, guys my heart melted.
“That’s a refreshing change from thinking of England.” He drew his head back to look at her. “Shall I woo you with whispers of balance transfers and rates of interest, then?”
The the most romantic language is money.
Any who I do love my men with curly black hair, eye's that are obsidian. He was so funny, like every conversation they had together left me on the edge of my seat, like he actually cared about her, would do anything to care for her. Never wanting to see her in distress.
Was I annoyed at the miscommunication him, think she slept with that old creepy man, yes, but at least it was resolved before the wedding night.
But the ending brought me to tears, when Annabelle defied the odds, and saved her husband and revealed her deep love for him, and he reciprocating, and then them living in a wonderful mansion together.

This book, isn't a literary masterpiece, I'll admit it, but I think I'm just obsessed with enemies to lovers specifically I love the enemy banter.
Elise Hanaway, I felt her, she's in college (I'm in college) but she's like a TA (in regards to money) but has the status of a professor.
SO she's broke has family issues, but she's smart knows her physics stuff.
(I'm not a STEM major, but I love my women in STEM).
She's obsessed with physics (and this book actually taught me about a science drama I knew nothing about, I had to ask one of my science friends to explain it).
And there's a dude that she hates (a mystery man one could say) and he wrote some academic paper, (when she was 12) (something I will have to write) but it was fake, which was attempting to expose that theoretical physics is fake.
Which with this paper destroyed Elise field of her dreams (childhood dreams shatter, childhood enemy unlocked) as well as specifically her mentors aspirations in this field because he was the head of the publication this fake paper was written in. ...more

I really liked the main character Romeria, she was so funny, just living a normal life, as a thief on the streets working for a mafia lord (a normal day in New York), then they're killed by this mysterious women, named Sophia. Sophia takes her to...Belgium, to an old castle (guys I think I would run away!!!)
There she sees, Sophia's dead husband, and then she's stabbed...(Sophia before this was yapping in metaphors, and old sage advices, that makes no sense.)
I was on the edge of my seat, homework put aside to hear what happens next.
And Romeria, wakes up, finds herself in fantasyland, where she's a princess of different kingdom, and was supposed to marry the prince (now King) and is being chased, because in this land, she
KILLED THE FORMER KING AND QUEEN AND WANTED TO KILL THE WHOLE ROYAL FAMILY.
So, yeah, that's a womp, womp, and so before they have her killed she able to escape, but then a monster tries to kill her, she survives, and saves the princess.
And the new King Zander, yeh he doesn't like Romeria, after the whole killing his family thing, and so there's lot of anger, and smoldering and he hates her but alas is in love with her type beat.
it was so funny, a good enemies to lovers banter.
And the book had a lot of twist and turns, and it was good for what it was. ...more

I’ve been really getting into biblical fiction like reading retellings of bible storiesTrying to get my reading done whilst I buddy read another book.
I’ve been really getting into biblical fiction like reading retellings of bible stories I have read before. Like the story of Rahab is quite a short story, it’s about a woman who’s a prostitute and has faith in the God of Israel and protects his spies which leads to her saving her family.
Her story I don’t think much about but reading this book made me really think about her as a person, like the story she makes about her life is so compelling how men throughout her life have failed her.
When I read this book, there were moment when I was wondering to myself if I was reading a Christian book.
Whenever IThere was a lot of pining....a lot
When I read this book, there were moment when I was wondering to myself if I was reading a Christian book.
Whenever I think of Isaac, I always think golden child, his father and mother wanted badly after years of trying (like they got him when Abraham was 100, and Sarah 90) so it was interesting reading his perspective, but he was too quiet for my taste a reason why he's not a favorite character of mine.
I liked Rebekah and how she's written, she outspoken, love God, but I hated every time she was forced to submit to Isaac even when he was wrong like in annoyed me to much.
Isaac is in love with Rebekah, like he likes a lot (he doesn't have any other wives, unlike his father or even sons so I'll give it to him.) but sometimes his actions didn't really speak, he didn't listen to her ignored what God told her and wasn't really talking to her.
There was lot of....how should I put it, devils tango but more like fading to black type (like it wasn't said but suggested).
He would just wanted to do the do, not have a deep relationship with her.
Him being jealous of Jacob, bc Rebecca and Jacob was close was CRAZY.
Like Rebecka showed her love for him, but he was right here picking favorites with Esau, and so Jacob was her comfort, if it was anyone fault it was him.
I did not like Isaac, and Rebecka was great but I hated every time she was put down.
I liked how a lot of the book was written but I would get whiplash, with time skips and I was never forewarned one minute Jacob/Esau born the next minute they're 20.
Also Rebecka servant Deborah we never got to learn more of her, we learn of her tragic story, but other then that, we never get closure, and her daughter Selena, we lose any more details in her character she just kind of fades into the background.
Also I disagreed with her making Abraham say he loved Sarah, but because she stopped talking to him (bc of the whole him almost sacrificing Isaac bit), he married Keturah, like come on.
In my opinion I think Abraham remarried after Sarah died, like come on he isn't that antsy and second Sarah knows God gave her son Isaac to her, so with that part, she would know God wouldn't break his promise....
There was a lot of good in this book but some parts were not my fav...more

This was an amazing read like it felt so nice just reading a simple Boaz and Ruth retelling, about people who really sought after the LORD, and loved each other.
Ruth is one of my favorite biblical characters she loved her mother in law, took care of her and in the book we learn of she felt like she belonged no where but felt a family with Naomi and Mahlon (till he died)
Her hardworking and just straight up kindness was so sweet and Boaz noticing that and really being an honorable man was so nice (I still can’t deal with him calling Ruth his daughter slight ick)

Recently for the last six months its been really hard for me to get into reading, but I realized that I had to return this book to the library, so I said to myself let me read a little and OMG, this book made me want to cry.
I'm taking a class on Roman history, so this book felt natural to what I'm studying in school, and Francine River does an amazing job, of making it a real story, that shows she researched a lot on Roman History during the reign of Titus.
And Francine doesn't shy from actual real world issues, morality, which sometimes Christian novels tend to shy away.
But this book feels like I'm reading a character who's in a world that disdains Christianity. And Hadassah (literally my favorite character) deals with wanting to tell others about her faith, but can't knowing she'll face death for her faith. She only feels safe enough to speak on it when she knows she can trust them. Hadassah remind me of myself sometimes when I fear speaking out on my faith due to how people might perceive me, and maybe ruining friendships (while for her, she's gonna die.)
Also the beginning with the Fall of Jerusalem, and Hadassah seeing her entire family die, and watching everyone die in front of her, broke me. Though I think we needed Hadassah to ruminate more in the pain of losing her family, I think it was skimmed over to much.
A lot of times in Christian novels, non-believers are villainized, to be caricatures, of people and are viewed as obstacles we face. But in this novel, they're realistic, actual people that I feel I have faced in my own life (granted they're not ancient romans with there values but same idea's of how they live) and who might never become a Christian. But they're people you care about, and live with.
Then there's Marcus, the playboy, looking for pleasure wherever he goes, and I like that Hadassah isn't an overly beautiful girl he falls for, he falls in love with her because of her kindness, and willingness to speak her mind in times of troubles. For the strength in her faith, and purity. Do I like Marcus for Hadassah...heck to the no, I fear I never trust playboys (especially ones like him.) And also he slapped her, he tried to assault her, and he's her master, and she's slave so....
Julia, ngl I disliked her, but I could see how the world shaped her as a person, but her betraying Hadassah like that made me wanna cry.
Also Julia's first husband Claudius, this is so random but I really liked him and Hadassah chatting about Judaism, like it was nice hearing his interest and him just having a daughter like relationship with her (I know his wife was the same age as Hadassah, so I could see all the problems, but I loved his genuine interest in the faith.)
Also loved having John having an appearance, wish I could have the opportunity to meet him.
Great BOOK, like seriously this might be one of the greatest fiction I have read (100 times better then Redeeming Love).

The entire time the book attempts to justify his actions. He saves girls from human trafficking and stalks bad guys for a living so no wonder it “blends” into his “love life”

Now how this journey began, started with a whim, I found the book at my library (online library). AND decided to just finish it all (did a bit of an all-nighter)
AND I was, I was obsessed I'm sorry to say,
THIS book is like the Hunger Games and ACOTAR, came together and had a baby.
The MC Violet Sorrengail sounds like Feyre, like sometimes as I read I would mistake her for her, except she reads (unlike Feyre (poor Lucien in the second challenge, imagine amid life and death scenario, a written question is given to an illiterate...would not want to be him).
I like Violet, she did complain but it was like the Hunger Games it was so brutal, like a girl just wanted to be a scribe, like if it was me, I would have left with Dain, to be a scribe (but I'm also too stupid to be a scribe (but I do enjoy history over death))
NOW WHY WAS THERE ANOTHER TAMLIN AND RHYSAND SITUATION
Please free me from this romance arc
I loved the Riders Quardent concept the girl was amazing she was able to survive the first challenge of just not falling through her whits Also even when she would fight people in the weekly challenges, she knew she was weak and small so she used poison (genius).
Then the training made so much sense like she wasn't the strongest warrior to ever live, she wasn't she struggled so much the entire time, and we got to see her growth. She even wasn't able to sit on her dragon. And so they adapted for her.
ALSO HER DRAGON TARIYN WAS SO FUNNY I LOVED HIM SO MUCH!!! Like I wish I could convo with a dragon, but also I would have died seeing one in the beginning and would have died, so I'm not one to talk.
ALSO, Jack got me so mad he was so mean trying to kill people. Such a douchebag...glad what happened to him in the end.
I loved seeing Violet, showing off the skills she knew, and growing in the ones she didn't and I became obsessed with challenges and the different obstacles, and honestly, it was such a fun read.
Now let's talk about the...ROMANCE
Let me preface this okay guys, if someone killed my parents...I WOULD HAVE REVENGE!!!
I have read SO MANY FREAKIN BOOKS where if someone kills their parents...they forgive and (vomiting in the background) fall in love.
My parents would be rolling in their graves, and so personally he was just too chill-like, he saw her and was already IN LOVE. Like can we get the hating apart at least...like come on let's at least feign it just a smidge. Like the main girl Violet, she was worried and had the appropriate emotions but I was waiting for him to trick her and have some wicked revenge. I was waiting for so long and he was just in love, he was a RYSHAND but with no mysterious behavior, no backbone, no evil, and power that is yapped about, but that's just it a lot of yapping.
So yeah, I didn't like him, he was just there to be her cheerleader, which didn't make sense given what her mother did to his parents.
(HE LEGIT WATCHED HIS PARENTS GET MURDERED)
So yeah that was annoying, and Dain was annoying like he made sense but at the same time, I was so into the dragon training the whole Gauntlet course and finding your dragon that I was like let's just stick to this. (but in reality, he's right, we got dip if we wanna live so I better become a scribe since I have Hunger Games survival chances here, and who wants to become a war machine...but also it ain't real so let a girl live.)
(I was REALLY annoyed though and mad when he said choose one of the dragons and pick the smaller one. I was about to punch the man, and he was no more on my team.)
So yeh I enjoyed the book, it made me feel, some hate, and stuff, yes this isn't a literary masterpiece but it was funny drama, and there was a dragon...dragons. ALSO i would have died :) (not a book world I would wanna be in)...more
Hmmm, I have a controversial opinion, I hated when in enemies to lovers, the person actually didn't hate the other persoThe Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Hmmm, I have a controversial opinion, I hated when in enemies to lovers, the person actually didn't hate the other person, I like to see the progression from hate to love, not oh "I hate you" *wink* *wink* its extremely annoying. But if we want a reality flash, I'm gonna be completely honest, if your my "enemy" there's no chance in the world I will date you, let alone marry.
Now, in this book the protagonist Lucy (I legit forgot her name) hates this other dude named Joshua, why you may ask, because he didn't receive fondly the welcoming present. Instead of like reasonable people just ignore him, she decides to play games. Because they don't work to save their lives like Jesus Christ.
They do staring games......, other games, and spend their time, wasting away in a publishing company. Then theres a job opportunity to be a higher up, they both fight for it, but this makes them fall for each other. She then goes on a date with a coworker, and he finds out, but she actually made it up.
Shenanigans occur and in the end they fall in love, go to his brothers wedding. He quits, she gets the job (gurl power).
There's a smut scene, that I skipped, because ew, and I'm a prude (I'm not ashamed to admit it). So yeh, she was beautiful, ashamed of her height, because people "hate it" when women are short.....totally. Are dude Joshua can't for the LOVE OF GOD stop talking about "not being a good guy" like jeez did you murder someone, like there's nothing in the book that would show him as a bad guy, maybe apathetic and a perfectionist but thats it.
So did I like the book....NO, like it wasn't enjoyable, but again I couldn't stop myself from reading it, the book wasn't bad enough that I couldn't read it, I could read it, and I just like reading books about people doing weird stuff. Because I have no life....
Edit - I remember reading this book before, and I was so into it, declaring it better then Pride and Prejudice (oh how foolish I was). Now at the ripeEdit - I remember reading this book before, and I was so into it, declaring it better then Pride and Prejudice (oh how foolish I was). Now at the ripe old age of 19, I have reread this book, and realize its not as good as I thought. Julia as a character is poorly written, we don't know her motivation, she is a quite character who lurks in the background.
And both her love interests are boring, and her husband Stephen, I never noticed it, when I read it back in the day, but his entire thought process is that Sophia, is pretty, he wants to bang her, but she isn't interested in him because she loves her brother. He's honorable, I give him that, because he doesn't act on his impulses, but I never see his love for her, beyond physical appearance, and that she's his wife, so he's legally allowed to do the deed with her.
Not as much as a fan as I was, and I think I liked the book a lot because it was easy to understand, and that main guy, was guy who actually was morally upright. I just want men who are vanilla, with good character.
The Painters Daughter by Julie Klassen Rating -☆☆☆☆☆
I sound like a hypocrite, I PRINCESSARAH insulted one of the greatest classics in the world Pride and Prejudice, and yet here am I liking this book.
You might be thinking that or not, but still, I shall defend thy honor , by stating why I liked this book.
The best way to start this investigation , review with the day I found this piece of literature.
Flashback It was a typical Saturday night, I was lying in bed, looking for something to read, that would ease me to sleep. I was hoping to fall asleep early so I could be wide awake for church service.
Then I saw this book randomly on overdrive and decided to read it, planning, to think of it as another cheesy Christian book I´ve read in my lifetime, but instead, found myself enjoying it.
Present So there are people who will say, that Jane Austen's books do THE EXACT SAME THING, expect its the OG, and better but this story, just engaged me, maybe it was my sleepy mind, but I found everything in a more unique perspective.
Let's talk about the Plot before I lose you guys! The main character is Sophie who is pregnant, but without a husband to claim the child, her beloved rake lover named Wesley, sails the seven seas leaving her before she confesses, that she´s with his child.
He has, a younger brother named Stephen who´s (cough, cough) more responsible, and goes to check up on his brother, to force him to go back, and deal with his responsibilities, as the eldest. But instead finds himself shackled married to his brother's lover, Sophia. (things escalated quickly)
She moves in with her husbands family, and the only reason Stephen agreed to wed her is that he believes according to his nannies prophecy, that he will not live to see his inheritance (and that's in a couple of months, and after the honeymoon leave, will go back to the military)
Soooo, then, she falls for Stephen, he goes to war, and guess who shows up... Wesley, (that meeting went as great as you expect it would) then...
YOU, should read the book to find out next, but I will say this, there are more characters, more side plots and the ending resembled a Jane Austen one.
To conclude, I found The Painters Daughter lovely, the secrets, the scandals, and the touch of suspense quite enthralling.
Call it a second rate Austenise book, but I like it, and I am entitled to my hypocritical opinion but HEY, I never once needed a dictionary :)

Agatha Christie has done it again, she has written a masterpiece that has brought tears to my eyes.
It's an amazing mystery, and one of the greatest things about it is that since it's not as famous as And Then They Were None so I was going into the book, without a clue, of the plot or end result which made the experience so much better.
First I should mention that I love books with huge families, that are extremely wealthy because they have so much scandal, hidden secrets, and drama, it truly warms my heart in that weird type of way.
Second I loved our main character, who was trying to figure out, who committed the murder of his fiance's grandfather and I did like the fiance (I think her name was Sophie) , who gave a great explanation of what type of family she had (brutality 101).
I figured out who did the murder quite early on in the story, but I did love the twist and turns Agatha put there, trying to make me doubt who did it.
This is a spoiler but (view spoiler)[ Sophie, the mc fiance is given the entire fortune and the grandfather tricked the family by making them believe he divided the estate equally, who doesn´t love a sneaky grandpa (hide spoiler)]

An absolute masterpiece, truly breathtaking, I loved the writing, the plot, and the suspense.
The reason sometimes, I give classics a lesser score is because of the English used, and the difficulty reading it.
Agatha Christine did not have this problem (mostly because she lived in the 1900s and died in 1976 which is closer to our era compared to many other classics) and so I was able to truly enjoy the book for what it was.
There was ONE downside to And Then They Were None which was that since this book is a classic, it suffers from a disease I dubbed...
So I knew what was going to happen, which kinda destroyed the mystery, which is kind of the point to a mystery & thriller, which is not knowing what will happen and getting surprised.
But
In spite of this I was still able to enjoy the story, and the crafting of it, I still got chills, even though I knew what was going to happen next. I also loved how each character had a distinct personality and was intrigued, by the poem that was used for the murder.
A great mystery and an awesome book to read, I would recommend this to all readers....more

I could go on an hour rant, discussing my thoughts on The Odyssey , but I will condense it to a couple of points.
First, of all, as I read, I honestly, thought that the English reminded me of the The Holy Bible, so since I have read the Bible many times now, it wasn't difficult for me to read.
Second, I LOVE GREEK MYTHOLOGY
Third, I thought Odyssey was terrible, I adored his wife and son, but Odyssey was a pile of garbage. He had affairs, left and right, while his wife was patiently waiting for him, staying faithful until the end. I read this book called Circe and I learned that Circe had a child with him...WHAT !!
If our wife, I would TOTALLY leave him if I could...
His wife waited for him, yet he never told her his plans, never tried comforting her, WHAT TYPE OF MAN IS HE? ! (he's a douche bag that's what he is)
But
The plot itself was interesting, and if I did not think too much about Odyssey´s character, I actually enjoyed the mythology and the adventure to get back home, as well as the bloodshed her suitors got when he returned.
Recommend to those looking for ancient literature, and those interested in Greek mythology. ...more

A beloved classic, known for its heartwarming romance, and moving characters. People obsessed, and died over it, but then there is me.
I personally thought this was an average book, there wasn´t anything SPECIAL it was just a bland romance story that I could barely read, I MEAN BARELY!!!
Seriously, I needed to bring a dictionary and a thesaurus, just to read it, AND THE BOOK SOUNDED SIMILAR TO ANY HISTORICAL FICTION BOOK THAT I COULD READ IN MINUTES!
It was just about this girl named Lizzy (Elizebeth) who needs to marry a rich dude since she has no brothers, only sisters, so the family estate will go to Mr. Collins, and they will be left destitute, so she and her four sisters need a husband PRONTO!!! .
She finds a dude named Mr. Darcy who´s like, [image]
Elizabeth first glance at Mr Darcy, he first insults roasts her (he says Lizzy totally doesn´t tempt him LIES ) so she dislikes him.
She´s also fed lies from Mr. Wickiam about Mr. Darcy, but in the end, for some reason, she changes her mind... I wonder why? (after seeing his beautiful estate, and after he saves her sister Lidya´s reputation and her families)
Not my cup of tea, since I like more substance in my books (bloodshed, murder, scandal)
I recommend this to those who love a fluffy, vanilla book, that will take you years to read, (and those who love dictionaries)...more

One of my greatest desire is to stay in a gothic, mansion, and figure out a ghost or murder mystery, whatever the case if that happens to me, I shall die of happiness.
*scrolling through Craigslist looking for any haunted mansions*
Until that occurs, (or I found one) I will read Jane Eyre. As I read, I could feel that the atmosphere was mysterious, and the house felt haunting, and the owner... (hmm, I smell trouble)
Jane, is our main character, she holds her morals tightly and was pragmatic, most people will say, give up everything for ✨ LOVE ✨ but I enjoyed and admired, seeing someone, who thought about herself and wasn´t blinded by ✨ LOVE!!! ✨
I also understood her childhood, very well, and her reactions to her aunt and school sounded way too similar to what I would have done. I liked Jane Eyre and found her to be one of my favorite classical literature figures.
Mr. Rochester, is the main guy, for most who know me, know I find, men like him distasteful, I´ve never found the tall, dark and brooding, interesting, or remotely attractive attributes.
Nevertheless, I found him different, to many tropes of this type of character, he wasn´t that cliched, wounded souls, who was gorgeous, and was MISUNDERSTOOD but instead was unattractive, and did not have a "silver tongue".
He isn´t a top contender, but I found him interesting in his own distinctive way, and the wife in the attic, had me up in my toes...though this book does suffer from
The only setback was kind of the writing, which was very flowery, which made it a bit harder for me to read, but since the plot was AMAZING, I was able to continue on.

I´d heard of it before and knew it was a classic that took place in America during the Civil War.
So when I was told that I had to read this for a reading assignment, during our Civil War Unit I was apprehensive.
I did not want to read a book that was classic, with a boring plot, that would be difficult to read.
Yet when I read Gone with the Wind I found the plot much different than I had imagined. I was whisked away to the civil war, finding myself immersed in an epic plot, and a cheesy romance.
It wasn´t difficult to read (though it did sometimes get too descriptive and the book is as long as the bible)
There were moments when I yelled at the book (my parents were slightly concerned why I was yelling at a book) saying I was a million times smarter than Scarlet when she would insult African Americans calling them dumb.
(I am black and found the characters attitudes and racism, shocking, I so desire to take her out of the book and teach her a thing or two)
Yet it opened to me a different perspective from what I learned in the north about the war, and made me see the southern perspective and how they defended their position.
I also loved the analogy about the south that Scarlet was representing the South and how it wanted to change, (a.k.a in the relationship between Rhett) but still trying to hold on to the ways of the old south (a.k.a in the relationship between Ashely).
Gone with the Wind is really interesting, I couldn't morally support any of the characters and thought what Scarlett got, in the end, is what she deserved.
but
I hate that the author made me feel sorry that Scarlet didn't get a happy ending, which at the bottom of my cold icy heart, was what I kind of wanted for her.
I recommend this book, for those who want to know more about the civil war, and like a good historical fiction drama, that might will get you angry...more
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Ann Jacobs Rating: ☆☆☆☆
What must I say? I am at a loss for words, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Ann Jacobs Rating: ☆☆☆☆
What must I say? I am at a loss for words, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl was a profound story that truly touched my heart.
I loved Harriet and how she explained the evils of slavery through the nuances of her life.
She did an excellent job telling about the stereotypical master who would rape his female slave and the mistress who would then abuse them. It was a vicious cycle that opened my eyes to the harsh reality of slavery.
The saddest part was when Harriet explained that if a vicar had a child out of wedlock with any white woman, he would lose his post, but if it were with a woman, who was black, he would be given a pat on the back.
WHAT!?!?!?!?!
(apperently the code for being a southern gentlemen was more for a southern turd )
Harriet's story itself is shocking. First, at a tender age, she had to deal with a FIFTY-YEAR-OLDS ADVANCES (gags in the bathroom) and then dealt with abuses from her mistress.
The craziest and the most compelling act of the story is when she hides in a basement for seven years, FOR SEVEN YEARS!!! from her master.
My only critique was that the book had a lot of footnotes, I HATE FOOTNOTES !!! Either write it in the story or leave it out, don’t give additional info.
The writing, though, was astounding I wanted to jump, UP and DOWN , then praise the Lord that this book used English, that didn´t have flowery language, and I did not need a dictionary, to decode what I was reading.
Remarkable, memoir, fascinating and profound, I would recommend this to those who want to read more biographies and enjoy historical books....more
