It really had a lot of promise. It was well written like I don’t remember there being a lot of type of graphical errors or anything like that. One thing that did kind of bug me is how many characters would say sentences like want this with you instead of I want this with you at first I was thinking it might just be a unique character treat, but then multiple characters spoke the same way and it was just weird and it happened way too often, I’ve read a good number of books about a character who’s coming out of an abusive relationship and then they go onto find a new life find a new love, etc. and it’s not exactly something easy to write about especially if the book is not going to focus on the experiences themselves and what I mean by that is We’re not going to get chapters of the main character experiencing the abuse real time. It’s typically done in flashbacks or what not and perhaps was a better editor. I might be able to put my finger on how this author was able to share that experience with the reader so well because we get a prologue which kind of comes at the end of the abuse and then it flash forward a couple of years when she’s already kind of settle down, a different name and all of that and so we miss those two years of when she’s going from place to place and we didn’t see hardly any of the abuse that she endured but something about how she wrote. The main character just felt authentic where I started to feel it wasn’t as authentic was with how quickly she and then main main character got together, and she’d been living in the small town for a while. This guy had his eye on her, but of course it isn’t until the reader picks up the book and opens it. There’s some forward momentum between the two and the idea of him coming out to fix some thing at her house seems totally believable, but I feel like it just progressed way too quickly for someone who was really dealing with trauma so extreme that she had to move Hundreds and hundreds of miles away leave her life behind stay off the grid. I mean she took drastic action and I just felt she moved way too fast with this guy and I did enjoy their relationship. I kind of just kept coming back to that love like I don’t know that never works for me and books. I just I don’t know it’s so difficult to execute and I want something more like I don’t understand why things have to be rushed. Why couldn’t their story have unfolded over time? Why did everything have to be crammed into a 30 day? Period or something crazy like that no let it, take time someone who’s coming from an abusive relationship is not just gonna be like you know what I got a good feeling about you moving with me. I’m all and let’s do this. I mean no I mean anyway I just feel like the book really could’ve been so much better if the author had taken more time to let their story build and unfold....more
OK, it’s been maybe a week since I finished this book so I’ve had some time to think about it. Let’s see how much I remember. Well I think I do stand OK, it’s been maybe a week since I finished this book so I’ve had some time to think about it. Let’s see how much I remember. Well I think I do stand behind my two star review I was brought to tears and the book was well written, but it was more of an issue for me I think with how the two main characters got together like I’m just not crazy about Insta love I think for a story that was really trying to be complex emotionally, rich, and deep that Insta love and it and yeah the author is trying to convey that these two are soulmates or whatever which granite they’re 1718 years old, but whatever I don’t think Insta love is necessary to make that successful or make that possible. I would’ve enjoyed more of them getting to know each other and bonding without having that immediate sexual tension or what not and I would’ve enjoyed a little bit more with the other people in their group, but I think where this also lost points for me is the author completely mocked up one of the character names so I believe the therapist were Leo and Mia and your trucking along you’re probably at least halfway through the book and then suddenly Mia becomes Miriam for one chapter and then she goes back to being Mia and I actually scrolled back through to double check. Is this a different character we’re being introduced to no I think this was an absolute oversightand maybe that’s not the authors fault so I probably change character names like that but where was the editor? Where was the proofreader?...more

Would have loved an epilogue about her at the Olympics instead of him being drafted. ...more

I mean first of all paying for sex gross and these are college kids and I don’t know. I don’t know I mean, I guess I get it but how could you really have any kind of real relationship after this? I feel like, the money aspect would taint the relationship or maybe not I mean look at the movie pretty woman but what do I know so the female main character I didn’t really get her. I didn’t really connect with her. I know she was trying to combat the pressure, she felt to live up to the expectation set by her sister and so then I guess that caused her to rebel I mean, I don’t know. Maybe I guess she got burnt out of trying to meet those same expectations but always failing so she just decided to give up on everything, I don’t know. I guess that would’ve maybe made a bit more sense if something specific happened instead it’s like she just decided to quit everything she quit cheerleading she stopped caring about school. She broke up with her boyfriend. She did all those things. I don’t know we just didn’t see it. We got a flashback to when she met the main character, but it was just kind of weird how at the beginning and she’s on the phone with her friend and he’s overhearing her conversation. I don’t know that was weird. I was just it’s just weird. Could’ve been better executed and less awkward ways on top of that, I didn’t really enjoy reading about her friends cause I thought her friends were not really her friends. They were terrible people And then I also thought she was completely stupid for keeping her physically there in a death drawer or whatever and yeah I can understand what she’s saying like seen all that money physically OK yeah it’s a motivating factor for her but come on. That’s not smart and it would be just as motivating for her to open her mobile banking app and see the balance in her savings account but if she did that, then we wouldn’t of had her alleged best friend breaking into her apartment stealing the money and then Patrick getting her to come back with the money and apologize and all this shit I mean, I don’t know so much drama for the purpose of whatsimilarly with Patrick and him spending his year abroad with that woman and I don’t know I get that this was supposed to be a dark college romance, but it just seemed a little cheap. Plus, I came for the period sex and while it was mentioned, but she was on her period there was nothing more and in a dark romance book like this, I would expect some thing a little bit more graphic if I’m being perfectly honest, if I want to read a romance book where they just talk about it that’s perfectly executed in a Regency romance book that I read, but for this, you know, I just expected more.

I did see one review before hand that I really should’ve taken more seriously because everything they said was true. This is book 6 and a series and no, I apparently needed to read books one through five so that I could’ve read the first time that these characters meet And maybe known all of the other characters because it is a lot of characters. It’s just characters upon characters upon characters upon characters there’s 5 million women working at the shelter they have a corresponding male partner. They all have 5000 kids. I mean it was just way too much and I feel like when you’re gonna write a story and have something unique about it in this case Heidi’s Hearing impairment that’s something that is going to hook readers and they shouldn’t have to suffer through five other books just to get to this one so that some of this other stuff makes sense that it’s dealing with a bunch of stuff and I have a very difficult time, reading about a character telling his love interest about how he was abused and then like the very next sentence, he’s using all these derogatoryterms or he’s talking very sexually and it just cheapens the seriousness of the story and then on top of it she supposed to be hearing impaired but then she really talks more than anything else so what is the point? Yeah there is some signing and they mention her hearing aids, but really I am 43% of the way through and she’s talking more than anything else so what is the purpose of making your female main character hard of hearing there’s no benefit here other than two people in to read your book and the book is crap....more

It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t like super amazing and I’m not one to want my characters to have gone through like super extreme trauma like I’m not really into all of that or whatever but I do believe if you’re gonna have someone dealing with an abusive relationship like you can’t pussyfoot around it you can’t half ass And I felt like it was a little ass here you know she obviously came from an abusive relationship and yeah maybe everyone’s first thought is it physical physically abusive but anytime she addressed it it was like well. He didn’t physically hurt me and I feel like that just diminishes, the verbal abuse and the mental abuse I feel like the character the female character could’ve presented that to people in a different way like yeah he didn’t have to use his fist to hurt me. He had other ways that left me hurt and scarred or whatever you know, like kind of saying it like that instead of like we know he didn’t physically hurt you know it cheapens it a little bit in my mind Because I read the books in this series or not and it probably is you know some of the story I felt like I was coming into it halfway through like the car accident that her best friend was in it was just mentioned very very randomly. Overall, it was a sweet story. I enjoyed it. I like the relationship between the two main characters and I like the single parent aspect of it and how he wants both her and her daughter I don’t know what it is especially if someone who has no interest in having her own kids, there’s something about that that I enjoy when I’m reading so I did like that And yeah, I’m glad there wasn’t huge major. Third act break up. There was a request for some space and I think that felt very natural given everything that they were dealing with, but it wasn’t like he kept something from her or she kept something from him or anything like that, so natural than those very obvious break ups and because of the ending didn’t feel rushed or anything so yeah three...more

I was thankful that everyone survived and made it to the end of the story and that nothing they had to face or deal with was too traumatic, and I thought it was sweet about the two of them and enjoyed their relationship and their journey at the same time. I didn’t read it higher because the female main character felt very very very very very juvenile she supposed to be I think 2122 years old, which is young, but the way she came across was more like 14 and especially given what everyone had to deal with this post apocalyptic world that kind of crap forces people to grow up fast, so the fact that I am reading her monologue where she’s thinking to herself I wish we were having sex and upset that we’re not having sex and it was just so juvenile and it wasn’t hot at all. It was kind of weird and a little icky because I felt like I was reading some 14-year-olds and her monologue so I wish that had been a little bit, more developed and both of them dealt with very recent loss. I mean he lost his child and I’m not diminishing the loss of her grandmother who raised her that is also very traumatic, but neither one seemed too hung up about it and they seem to get over pretty quickly and he even made a comment like yeah I was lost. I didn’t think I was ever going to survive the grief and Now I think it’s OK. I’m gonna be all right and I mean I don’t know they were only together for a couple of weeks or something. It just felt a little rushed so yeah that’s why it’s three stars but I did enjoy the story and I did enjoy these two characters even though it did, need a little bit more especially with how they eventually got together with her saying I just wanna feel something good. It felt like she was manipulating him a little bit and anyway that could’ve handled been handled like I said with a little bit more finesse.

The only differences were the two characters experiences that they were going through. We’re almost the same, so yeah, and then on top of that, I felt the female main character could’ve been a little bit more independent and not quite as meek as she was
I’m so incredibly surprised how much I liked this book because I am not really one. Who’s into these sub tropes within fantasy like orc and gargoyles I’m so incredibly surprised how much I liked this book because I am not really one. Who’s into these sub tropes within fantasy like orc and gargoyles and stuff like that but I really like this story. It was so sweet and steamy at the same time. I like how the characters cared for each other, and most importantly that she was tall, which was the main reason that I read this I do like to how took charge of her own destiny. You know she’s obviously a very sheltered person but once she kind of found her to speak, she defended her family and her future against her father, who is a terrible person, so that was really nice to see that she wasn’t just some meek person content to let everyone handle everything for her and her husband appreciated that. ...more

It wasThis is another regency romance that I really enjoyed and yes, I only rated it. Three stars but three stars is like four stars for most people. It was well written. I enjoyed the characters and I liked going on this journey with them. I was really interested and invested in the female main character and her sister and I really like the romance that her sister had I thought that was really sweet and unexpected and really cool, given that he is Indian and she is obviously not so they are going to have struggles ahead of them, but it was very sweet and an unexpected side story. The main character was a little questionable. I almost really wanted the female main character to wind up with the male, main characters, scientist, friend I thought they almost had more chemistry than anything else and plus he wasn’t involved in any kind of shady better or agreements when it came to her. It just felt very she’s all that, and left me with a little bit of an ick factor and left me kind of questioning his morals and ethics, and all of that. So yes, even though he ended up being kind of dashing and was helping her and everything and really did care about her and obviously loved her. His origins were just a little too questionable, even though he never really lied, but the fact that he himself was undecided about what he was gonna do I mean no one really wants their hero to end up with someone like that....more
