“sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.”

anyways, overall i give this book a 4 stars. and i will say this book was NOT what i was expecting, surprisngly this book was very interesting. never read a book like this and im "wowed"
Plot: This book was a historical fiction hinted with a bit of magic, this book is set during the Civil Rights Movement era, down in the south. With ghosts, sisters, and dirty secrets untold, this book had it all. this book was advertised as a "Southern Gothic Thriller" and were they right! sisters Charlene and Magnolia have an amazing story. This book teaches about the power of love, family, it shows that segregation is not at all right. I think this book is perfect for teens, as it was YA. but honestly this book was out of my comfort zone! and i never would've picked this up, expect from my mum because... she did a mystery unboxing from B&N and got this book LOL, so i stole it :P
My thoughts: I would reccomend, if you are into the historical fiction genre, of great events like the Civil Rights Movement or others. Just know it also has a little magic and fantasy to it such as : Ghosts!! i did enjoy this, as their story is also sad, since they lost their parents to a very dramatic cause. there was "romance" in a sense between charlene( charlie) and darius, but it was very brief, i'd say at least 20% of the book was with them, but those little scenes were CHEFS KISS ...more
