Jordan Dane is a fellow Okie, so I was really hoping I would be able to support her. And...this, her first book, isn't bad.
I had several issues with it. She laid all her cards out on the table way too soon, you know who the "bad guys" are almost from the beginning, and I didn't think the characters were strong enough to stand up on their own without more mystery. There was still a "what-will-happen-next" suspense factor, but still...not enough to successfully carry the story for me.
Also, Rebecca and Diego's relationship was rushed and disjointed. Oddly enough, they did fit together, but the progression of their relationship just didn't ring true. That is a shame, but that is probably something she can get better at as she writes more books. There were also a few too many "yessssssss oh Diego!" sex moments...I had to roll my eyes at those (especially since they only had sex once!).
Anyway, not a big success in my opinion...but still not a bad start. I'm gonna keep the faith and keep going with the trilogy....more

I can't say that it TOTALLY blindsided me, because I did have the overall picture of how it would end...but there were bits and pieces of the story that absolutely did not click until the end. She keeps you guessing while still making you feel like you are close to solving "the bad guy" on your own. It was my first Spindler, and now I'll be heading to the library tomorrow for more! Good stuff....more

Jules Cassidy is one of my favorite characters ever; I am SO thrilled he finally got a starring role-not only in this book, but in All Through the Night, #12 in the series. I grew up in a conservative family, and haven't always been exactly open minded...so I am really proud of the fact that I so enjoyed Jules' and Robin's story...ever since it started several books ago. I love the way Brockmann is so secure in her characters, and knows how to let things build from book to book. Robin definitely had a lot of growing up to do before he and Jules got to the point they did at the end of Force of Nature, and she was content to sit back for several books (I don't remember exactly how many. 3 or 4?) and let it happen. She does that for a lot of her characters, and it makes this series so much more real. There aren't neat and tidy ends to every story...in fact, horrible things often happen to the characters. Murphy's wife dying? Gina's brutal rape by the plane hijackers? Anyway...I digress. Those things don't happen in this book. I just wanted to reinforce that these aren't sweet little romance novels with token Navy SEALS running around in the background. I have really fallen for this series in a big way...hope she doesn't end it anytime soon....more
