I was fine with that, but once I got more into the story, I knew there wasn’t going to be anything cheesy about this. Sure, it had its moments. But overall, After I Do is literally about just that. It’s about a couple who thought they would stay perfectly in love even after they said “I do,” only to realize that wasn’t the case after 5+ years of marriage. Times got rough and they both begun to resent each other.
I enjoyed this story because of how realistic it was. Everyone thinks they will be that perfectly happy and in love couple after marriage, but people get comfortable and stop putting the same amount of effort they used to in their relationship before marriage. This book perfectly sums that up by showing how Ryan and Lauren stop communicating with one another, and because of that, argue more. Even still, you’re rooting for these characters; you'll want them to make-up and see that they still love each other.
I really recommend this book to those who love this author or who love romance or contemporary. This is a realistically lovely novel!...more

Oh, yes. This was phenomenal and brilliantly written — quite possibly the most perfect nonfiction book I’ve read to date. There wasn’t a moment I was Oh, yes. This was phenomenal and brilliantly written — quite possibly the most perfect nonfiction book I’ve read to date. There wasn’t a moment I was bored; I was always looking for time throughout my day to continue listening. I say listening because this was my first audiobook, and let me tell you, as someone who used to be against audiobooks, I loved this. It made my daily six-mile walk/jog so much more enjoyable than they already were!
Important side note: This audiobook wouldn’t be as good if not for the reader Will Damron, so claps for him, too.
The issues surrounding Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes is something I've followed throughout the years starting in 2015. Recently, I even watched last month's HBO documentary on Holmes because I can’t seem to get enough of this story. I can't seem to understand what she was thinking, or rather, not thinking. As someone going into medicine, I understand that patients health comes first. Always. I can't fathom how Elizabeth didn’t see the seriousness of what she was doing. She was literally putting people in harm's way by sending false blood test results to doctors and patients.
After this novel and from what I already know, Elizabeth Holmes does sound like a straight-up sociopath, as John Carreryrou says himself. But if you’re interested in hearing from more sides (investors, lawyers, former employees) regarding Theranos, then I urge you to read this book. And even if you’re not interested in this story, Carreryrou’s investigative skills and layout skills are beyond perfect. So perfect you'll need to finish reading, and quickly. Everything is laid out exceptionally; everything flows well. So not only is this one hell of a story, but it’s written by one hell of a writer. What’s not to like? Except, you know, how actual human lives were put in harm’s way because of Holmes and her obsession to “change the world” and become a billionaire. But hey, I guess the risks were worth the rewards to her, even in the end. She's never once apologized to date. I don't think she ever will....more

I don't think they're fair. After all, someone wrote a book - they finished a story - and that's more than I can say for myself. Unfortunately, it also wouldn't be fair to give After two stars since some two star books I've read were significantly better.
That said, reading this was like pulling teeth. And I wasn't even "reading" it. This was an audiobook I got for free from my library.
From the beginning, Tessa's judgmental attitude got on my nerves, and her constant/obsessive thoughts about school were tiresome. Seriously, though, she's a hypocrite too. She talks/thinks poorly about people who party, but then goes to parties? She thinks/talks poorly about people who drink, but proceeds to get plastered drunk? Honey, you can't have both! You can't say you're not like them, when you are. That really annoyed me.
That's not even mentioning how Tessa also cheats. I really dislike cheating in books - it's not romantic! Plus, her high school boyfriend was better than Hardin. Hardin is literally verbally abusive and controlling. Obsessive, too. I never once thought he was cute.
Maybe I'm not in the right age range for this one. But I think I am. The expcilit scenes lead me to believe this is meant to be read by twenty-year-olds. If that's the case, this just wasn't my cup-of-tea, but it clearly seems to be many others given this story has over a billion reads....more

I hate to say it, but not really.
Having just finished After I Do by Reid, giving it four stars, I was eager to read another novel of hers. And while this one starts off with the same sort of vibe as After I Do, the similarities end there. This book dulls down somewhere toward the middle, unlike the other. The drama and constant back-and-forth got old, and I progressively began to dislike Emma. That said, something that redeemed this story for me was how much I liked Sam. He’s wholesome and patient, and I really felt that throughout the story.
I’m tempted to add more about the storyline but to make sure I don’t spoil something about the events that take place, I won’t say more. Fans of romance and love triangles (for the most part) will enjoy this one. I also think fans of Reid will, too. This book is definitely worth a shot! I'm also curious to see if readers will lean more towards Jesse or Sam, as I did....more
