3.5 Stars for me. Its not very often that a book ends not only in an HEA but in an HEA for mankind... Unlike anything I've read before, this book addr3.5 Stars for me. Its not very often that a book ends not only in an HEA but in an HEA for mankind... Unlike anything I've read before, this book addresses so many issues man kind has today even factoring in religion at times. I think that I'm used to more of the action and adventure type scifi and this book had more of "The Arrival," and "Contact" feel. Cover to cover the author's place many thought provoking issues in front of the reader allowing a reader to see from an outside prospective. It was fascinating at times. The world building was excellent.. considering that the author's were building more than one. Also, despite not having much knowledge regarding several of the scenes and issues I felt the author conveyed them in a way that didn't bog me down with jargon. I was easily able to read and accept what was going on without needing to go look things up on the internet lol.
I felt where the story lacked the most for me, was lack of emotion in the main characters. Fitzgerald and Isabella were understandable in there lack of emotional "range" so to speak but I also felt that Molly and Paul were a bit stilted and got worse the more time they spent with Fitz and Isabella. Both couples lacked in intensity and chemistry. I'm not sure if this was oversight by focusing so much on the plot that the characters depth suffered slightly. Considering that in the end the focus of the story turned toward the relationships human have with each other and their ability to work together, I really feel like the story could benefit from more range from the characters especially Molly and Paul.
In all honesty I think this would make a PHENOMENAL movie. This book was really focused on zooming in to the human condition as well as highlighting the fear mongering tactics of certain humans, and organizations. It was really good to see a book that puts humanity of the spot and where humans come out on top for a change!
