Very pleasantly surprising, this was a nice break from the oft serious side of this series. Never fear though, Goode does not shirk from the tough topics, this time delving more into relationship dynamics and the questions that can inevitably arise with an established couple. How do two people progress to a more committed relationship? Should a couple join and mesh their lives for a deeper connection? Is there a shared future in 1, 5, 10 years?
Tyler and Matt have been together for awhile now, and though Tyler is obliviously content with the status quo, Matt longs for more. Tyler’s cluelessness hurts Matt deeply and in an effort to right some wrongs, Tyler books them a vacation of a lifetime and commandeers the help of their friends Sebastian and Robbie.
What stands out the most for me in this installment was the fun factor that is intermittently dispersed throughout the more sober/serious parts. I’ve never laughed so much with a Goode novel before, which says something about the typical, painful, no-holds-barred nature of his previous works (which is never a complaint). This had bite and snark, mostly in the form of the fabulous Robbie, that had me cheering emphatically for Matt and Tyler to get their shit together. Of course they do after going through many roadblocks, mistakes and fiascos, and one just has to sit back and enjoy their hilarious, but poignant ride, to happiness.
So it’s not all about how Tyler gets his ducks in a row. Matt too evolves and learns a few things, and inevitably they come out the better and stronger for it. As always, Goode brings the harsh truth to light. This time around, it was an entertainingly fabulous, good time....more

A road trip. A homage. A chance to defy the rules and ultimately break them.
Justin has barely been living under the thumb of his well intentioned mother. He’s been in the closet and in love with his best friend Landry for years, and he’s scared shitless to do anything about it. On said road trip to honor his dead father, stress and grief come to a head, and the truth comes out with unsurprisingly, a lot of consequences.
Despite some upsetting angst, the writing here is what gives this extra points. The way Erickson conveys how Justin and Landry fit perfectly - always did, always will - was the best part of this book. So yes, this wasn’t the easiest read - but the poignancy, the intimacy - all won me over.
Admittedly, Justin has a shit ton of growing up to do - finding, owning, and embracing himself so he could be with Landry who btw, was a wonderful character to experience. Overall this was touching and very romantic. Of course, it was sweet and sexy too. These two meet cute when they were young and immediately connect. There was never a question as to whether they were meant for each other - they just had to take a journey to realize and embrace that possibility. Really, all the rest is inconsequential, and that my friends, is the way love should be....more

Note to readers - this is a small tangent from Calmes’s Marshals series, featuring the work partner of Elliot Dorsey, younger brother of Jack Dorsey, who works with Miro and Ian. Confused? Don’t be. Just thought I’d throw that out there for background info because I was tickled pink to realize the connection, no matter how small and insignificant.
Anyways… what I appreciate about this is that I know we're gonna get a relationship where both players are 110% all in. It’s possessive and claiming and intense, not to mention full on smexy with a good dose of ridiculousness. Short and very sweet - I’m a happy reader....more

What happens when a covert agent realizes the man he loves lied to him, barring the fact that he lied about the very nature of his own job and identity? What happens when a double agent, in an effort to protect one of his own, falls for him instead?? Apparently, all sorts of complications and yummy goodness. I mean, who doesn't love spies and espionage, and shit blowing up??
You've got Fisher, who's a lot stubborn but understandably betrayed. Then you've got Zach, who's torn between duty and the man he can't let go. These lone wolves have found a sanctuary in the other they never thought possible. Too bad the foundation of their relationship is a lot shaky. However they have a job to do, and that's protecting the other and not getting dead.
Major points go towards the genre itself - tough men going tender is the fabulous icing on the proverbial cake. Overall this was great fun, despite a bit of frustration in the first half regarding Fisher. Once he pulls his head out of his ass, that's when things take off.
Bottom line - this had angsty feels, darn good smex, tense action, and sweet, sweet proclamations. Definitely hard to resist such a heady mix! High five!...more

What happens when near strangers make a gentlemen’s agreement to have some fun with no strings attached? Plenty of goodness, that is.
It all starts with a terrible break up. Cole has certainly been unlucky in love, and when he goes to his local watering hole to drown his sorrows, he catches the eye of bar owner Owen, who notices immediately that something is amiss. Being the personable guy Owen is, he seizes the opportunity to cheer Cole up, but also to provide his own self some much needed distraction from his very busy, stressful life. It’s a win-win situation with no pressure and possibly, just maybe, some really great sex. Eyes wide open right?? Right.
These guys are of course pleasantly surprised to find that the other is really great company and that they get along in the best of ways. It doesn’t hurt that the attraction between them is off the charts. Surely it’s way too soon and the most inopportune time to fall for someone when one is on the rebound. No doubt that’s a recipe for disaster and heartache.
So yes, Cole and Owen grow closer, and the inevitable feelings develop despite a lot of personal worries. Thankfully very low on the angst, this had it all - a bit of fun, funny, and dirty, all wrapped up with a holiday vibe. Christmas is the perfect excuse to jump in and take a chance on love as miracles do happen. These two end up with their well deserved happy ending - just the way we like it....more

Rest assured this sequel does not disappoint, especially if you’re all for following an established couple.
It’s been a few years, and Caleb and Jacob are finally settled enough with their three adopted children to make the trek back east to seal their mate bond with a public wedding. Understandably, Caleb is terrified and nervous to return home after being gone for 12 long years. Luckily his worries were for naught. However, Jacob’s return is a whole different story regarding his family’s acceptance.
Not so much a serious shifter book, this delves more into the interpersonal relationship between Caleb and Jacob. Again, not as smexy as I would like, this was still quite satisfying. What stands out the most for me is how strong their love and devotion to each other is, and it just warmed my heart over and over. The hurt comfort continues and they support each other without fail, making this quite the romantic read. Add in some great family dynamics that made me shed a tear or ten, and when kids are done right as they are here, that enriched the story ten fold.
Overall, I obviously liked this a lot, and I look forward to reading the next in series, despite the fact that it will focus on a new couple....more

Still highly enjoyable, the gradual buildup to the conclusion will definitely wear on your nerves. This really, truly embodies the meaning of Christmas, and it definitely put me in the mood for this time of year.
Ash has been living the high life, and he’s totally fine with that, not knowing what he’s missing, as money has thus far provided him with superficial fun, companionship, and luxuries. However, due to some bad behavior, his punishment to work at one of his family’s main stores opens his eyes to many things, mainly that his life has been lacking people to care for and be cared by. This enlightenment is all due to coworker Elliot - the kindest, most generous soul he’s ever had the privilege of knowing.
Elliot’s love of Christmas is deeply rooted, and he takes the opportunity to use the event for good, making the skeptical believe and fulfilling wishes of those less fortunate. He’s the true star of this story, and there wasn’t one thing that I didn’t love about him. His generosity and innate goodness profoundly influences Ash, as he witnesses Elliot’s enthusiasm and dedication to bring hope and happiness to any child who comes to the Ashby store to make a wish. Of course, it changes Ash’s perspective and his ideas of what’s truly important - doing and caring for others, having a sense of family and belonging, and ultimately achieving respect and pride in one’s self.
Though maybe a bit unbelievable how fast Ash makes a 180, it’s still within the parameters of the all wonders of what Christmas embodies. Definitely sweet, definitely feel good, all with a nice of amount of sexy. This truly shows the magic of what believing in Christmas can do and the miracles it can create....more

Collectively, I’d say this was my favorite of the bunch by a smidge. If you want to know the truth, Arthur’s nephew Thomas from book 2, is still the standout character of the series. Love that kid so hard!!
Anyhoo, Kyle just wants to be taken seriously and treated like a grown up. He’s had his sights on Paul for forever, but it feels like an insurmountable feat to win his affections, let alone catch his eye. However, with the help of Arthur’s well intentioned mom, he just might be able to pull it off.
Paul is completely ready to settle down and be in a committed relationship. He’s been wanting this for years, but due to some family angst and personal hangups, he panics when he gets his heart’s desire. Can Kyle help him overcome his fears? Of course he can. Kyle’s warm heart and good intentions will conquer all.
There was a bit of comedy in this leading up to how Kyle pursues Paul. There’s also a fair amount of angsty insecurity and doubt. What stood out for me this time around, was as much as small town life can infuriate, it can also have a lot of good parts to it too. The sense of community is strong in this as people plan for a big holiday festival. As each subsequent story is told, the town of Logan becomes more fully fleshed out as a consequence. So intermix that with good feels and a touch of dirty smex, this had an ending that hints towards more to come (as we all already know). Overall a tidy for now, ending. ...more

Well that was definitely sugary sweet and all things nice.
Down on his luck Danny has been granted a huge reprieve, despite breaking and entering a bakery. Surprisingly, he’s not arrested for that, plus eating too many cookies. Instead, he’s fortuitously offered a job and shelter to get back on his feet so he can get to his new job in Vegas.
Though the holidays serve only to remind Merrick of what he’s lost, he still embraces the meaning of Christmas, as it boosts his generosity and sympathy towards Danny. Luckily during his busiest time of the year, Danny’s a fast learner and has a flare for decorating. It doesn’t hurt that he’s nice and cute too.
Of course Merrick and Danny hit it off, as they bake their way through the holiday rush. In a few short weeks, they both realize what they’ve been missing and only wish that things could be more. Could it really be that simple?? Yes. Yes it can.
With barely a smidge of turmoil, this was easy, feel good, with a nice dash of sexy. Merry Christmas!...more

He wanted to wrap this man up in his arms and nuzzle. Possibly bite a little. Rub. Rubbing would be very nice. Hell, napping was good… a good nap in a sunbeam.
The characters are always sweet natured, eager, and oh so sincere. Really, the only thing that’s unbelievable, despite the over the top insta-love, is the disbelief that these guys don’t have at least 20 boyfriends vying for their affection to begin with.
Sasha works for Grizzly List, and he can’t resist answering Trent’s ad when it comes across his desk to post. He hasn’t been too lucky in love, his disability usually a deal breaker with past lovers. He just wants to find the right guy that accepts him unconditionally.
Trent can hardly believe his luck when Sasha contacts him. It’s fate since his own mother was deaf. The only thing making their relationship difficult is the 6 hour drive separating them.

I’ll be honest. I didn’t cozy up to Christopher immediately in Somebody Killed His Editor. However, this time around I was fully engaged and appreciated his insecurities, his self deprecating humor, and his warring desires between trying to build something with his renewed lover JX or to call it quits due to his fatalistic expectations.
Somehow Christopher finds himself embroiled in the dramatic life of his long time mentor, Anna Hitchcock, who asks him to covertly discover who might be trying to kill her. Of course, this puts Christopher in mortal danger and in the mindset that he just might not be ready to completely let his relationship with JX fall to the wayside. As JX comes to his aid and the two try to figure out who could possibly want Anna dead, they uncover some surprising and horrifying secrets.
As usual, Lanyon delivers on the smart writing. Here the mystery is quite convoluted but well thought out, assigning motive and means to all characters involved, keeping everyone, including this reader, on their toes. Throw in some romantic proclamations, more revelations, and hopefully the future impetus to kick Christopher’s ass in gear regarding JX. Of course, I look forward to reading more about this duo as they progress in their feelings and find themselves in the various ludicrous situations they just can’t seem to avoid. That doesn’t necessarily benefit them, but it sure does make for some fine entertainment, and I look forward to it....more

Better than the first, my growing love of bears just keeps on, going on. This rating is for the pure enjoyment factor regarding the ridiculous fluff that this is.
Oscar is a lot shy, definitely a self isolationist, and understandably lonely. He simply wants companionship since sex has never been a priority, has never really interested him.
Patrick, like most bears, enjoys a good cuddle, loves all things sweet, and is always up for sharing an indulgent nap with a friend or lover. Oscar sounds like the perfect one to provide that and more.
So yes, these two click immediately and things progress fabulously. Despite Patrick’s belief that there’s no such thing as mates causing the necessary, but brief separation, the pure sweetness of this made up for it. Seriously endearing on all fronts and seriously sexy (with a good dose of sap) - I'm happy to see there's a third installment waiting for me!...more

I have to say that I really enjoyed this one.
Mason finds himself with a speeding ticket on his way home for Christmas and understandably, his interaction with police officer Steve, is anything but friendly and warm. What proceeds is kinda a comedy of errors, as these two meet time and time again by chance and under very awkward situations. Each are attracted to the other, but circumstance keeps getting in the way... until it doesn’t and that’s when things start to work out perfectly.
Not much happens, as this is a nice slow burn with an enemies to lovers overtone to it, as it spans several days. I can see some might find this a bit boring, but its strength is in the writing. This could’ve been mundane or trite or just plain awful and stupid, but it wasn’t. The writing was really good and the progression of feelings was gratefully realistic and plausible. Supporting characters were equally interesting that I wouldn’t actually mind a story about shy Sam or brother Kade. This was also nicely, sexily done, though I could always go for more - like that’s a surprise, right? The only complaint I have was that it ended so abruptly. Where is my epilogue dammit!? Regardless, this was my first story by this author, and it certainly won’t be my last....more

Set in what I assume is the same time period as Franklin’s other series, The Borrowed World , this follows college student Grace and how she tries to get home after the US is rendered helpless with no fuel or electricity. Luckily her dad has thought of every contingency should such a horrific thing happen. One has to admire his dogged thoroughness.
Shockingly, stability and morality desolve quickly. The world is forever changed and one must adapt or perish. Survival of the fittest has never been more apt.
Definitely full of adventure, heartbreak, wins and losses. Many a time I was reading behind my fingers due to major anxiety wrought, as our heroine encounters one harrowing situation after the other. The apocalypse more than just sucks, but note, proper preparedness just might save your life. It certainly did so for Grace.

Danny is a bit flighty and a lot scattered, but it’s only because he’s so caught up in his art that all other things seem inconsequential. Despite his bright personality and infallible optimism, he’s been very unlucky in love.
Mace has had it rough in life, betrayed by those who should’ve cared for him most, he took the fall for a crime he didn’t commit. He never wants to be that vulnerable again - love and trust are fleeting and unreliable. However, that all changes of course, when he meets Danny, who’s like a breath of fresh air. Mace automatically gravitates towards him as they share a love of all things aesthetic.
There’s a lot of “is he?”, “does he?”, “why can’t he be the one?” - along with doubt and confusion with some mild miscommunication. Despite that, the sweetness factor is high, and the inevitable crisis is handled quite easily. So if you want light romance with very little fuss, be reassured that this fits those requirements quite nicely....more
