Yes, the plot is twisty and corpses are always falling at your feet, but that's per usual for JAK. Both Maggie and Sam are well rounded and convincing and there are plenty of in-jokes about writers and detectives. From previous books, only Raina and Luther have speaking roles, but there's a great set up for the next book in Maggie's best friend. I look forward to it.
This one is good, the best of the series. The dialogue between Lyra and Simon actually sparkles. It's good to know JAK hasn't lost her touch. And I'm This one is good, the best of the series. Hopefully, this bodes well for the continuing series....more
Passable. Vivian is delightful and fun to watch as she gains the respect she deserves.

I liked it even less the second time. Another new audio narrator who wasn't as bad as the woman who did book one, but close. The plot had too many killers; it was so intricate as to be confusing. I don't think I will revisit this one again....more

I liked it better the second time on audio. The plot is still hopelessly convoluted and there are way too many red herrings, but Amalie and Matthias are worth the rest of the plot.
I was in the mood for a lesser Jones story....more
I'm enjoying the new Amanda Quick series. New Era, new location, but the same kind of mystery and growing congregation of corpses. Still, it's fun.

I remembered elements of the plot this second time through and still find Adelaide very attractive, but the the convoluted plot and the numerous endings were tedious....more

Characters are fine, but the body count was pretty high by the end. I hope the next one is better.
I tried this book again and via audio, which was unfortunate. The narrator is terrible; half the time, she is shouting. I'm pleased the narrator changes for book 2. The plot is still overfull, the perspective changes too many times, there are too many red herrings and too many killers. Oliver and Irene are okay and the hotel is awesome but it's still a poor start to a new series....more
