I read book 2 in this series proper to reading book 1. I enjoyed book 2. Sadly I didn’t enjoy this one as much. Trigger warnings: abuse (parental, partner), put-downs galore, aggressive sexual acts (I know some like this), adoption (successful)
Ice hockey team meets figure skaters, bonding has to happen as they share the same ice after a revenge prank by another team. Enermies to frenemies to lovers with a lot of good partner forming and supportive qualities but also very aggressive sex scenes and lots of background trauma influencing everyone’s actions.
Just couldn’t get past the aggression and trauma to enjoy it. :(...more

This is such a good book! The characters are interesting, develop really well, have great descriptions and personalities. I would love to hang out with Gareth! Bit more nervous of Joss!
The story flows really well with nice twists and turns and wonders. I did have some concerns early on about how it would develop but I was very happy with how it went on. And yes found myself staying up until 1am to finish it last night!!
Looking forward to the sequels but really hope we get to see more of what happens to this awesome group of characters too!...more

Trigger warning - abandoned child, foster care system placements.
Yet another super cozy story with wonderful people / characters, a great setting and so much delicious sounding food and beer (if you like that). Again the mystery is sort of sidelined as we embrace the town Oktoberfest, complete with music, parties and a documentary crew. Sloan is still working at NanoBrew with Garrett, their friendship and working relationship is developing. Mac still wants to renew their relationship - whilst also making even more bad decisions. Alex is just the most adorable wonderful teen.
Oh and then there’s the dead body and the mystery to solve!

It is an easy read, a fast-paced page-turning big bowl of soup with crusty bread and hot cocoa on the side - or a pint of the good stuff if preferred. I’ve read a number of Ellie Alexander’s cozy mysteries and they all leave you snug and happy and interested in her locations and settings and characters. I have zero interest in beer brewing or historic Germanic style towns in the Pacific Northwest. Wow I want to visit this town now - but will still leave the beer brewing and drinking to others! I just want to sit down and listen to these characters engage in life, explore the town and cozy up with the food and goodwill - even if there’s the occasional dead body. Good story where the murder is somewhat unneeded, got the murderer and was waiting for a twist but it was not the twists I expected. ...more

The narrator is the mystery writer and she has over 200 footnotes to enhance the story. Eleanor Dash is a best selling mystery author on a tour of Italy, 10 years after the release of her first book which is based on real events that happened in Italy and she helped solve the crime for. Oh and her sister assistant is of course along on the tour, along with the ex-boyfriend who helped solve the crime all those years ago and is now the main character in her books, and her blackmailer, her ex-boyfriend who is also a mystery author and the one she shouldn’t have chased off, and several other mystery authors, a book club and her stalker.
The cover has a quote saying it’s just like Knives Out and I can understand that link - it’s a whole cast of potential suspects and victims.
Enjoyable, page turner, not sure if the footnotes just irritated me. The murderer was identifiable earlier on but some nice twists to the plot. ...more
