That's why I read the book which obviously was geared toward and for women. Although Harvey had a few good points--stick to being a comedian Steve and count your blessing(s) which you bring up religion and church many times in the book. I agree it's not 1945 as stated in the book; but it's not 2008 again either. Times changed and changed drastically in the past decade and there seems to be a "gender war" going on among other things. Obviously, and sad to say the book is outdated and was a bore....more

It had it's moments but seemed to have some unnecessary "fill in" which the book could have done without. I was considering a 4 star until the end which just seemed to go flat and left the reader wondering if Peter survived, was severely wounded leaving him somewhat disabled, did they get rescued and if not, how did his lover get him back and out of harms way or just did he plain die!?? I reread the last few pages and the epilogue and authors notes trying to come to a logic conclusion. May have a bearing on reading Petries next book. ...more

I contemplated a four star rating but the ending just went over and beyond my comprehension. All in all, the book kept me engrossed and involved more than I anticipated. ...more
