I love stories about obsession, and this book definitely had a lot of that. There was also so much interesting social commentary packed into this short book that I really enjoyed. There were so many interesting conversations about feminism, race, and class that I thought made the story very thought provoking. I was hoping the end would get a little more unhinged / weird, so it wasn't a perfect read for me, but I really enjoyed my time reading this book.

I enjoyed the dragons way more than I was expecting to, but I wasn't a huge fan of the characters or the romance in this book. I thought I'd be into the romance because I'm a big romance reader, but this read so cliche and both Violet and Xaden kind of drove me nuts haha. The dragons were definitely the coolest part of this book to me, which is shocking to say because I thought it would be my least favorite aspect of the book. I don't plan to continue in this series.

I found this protagonist to be so relatable at times, and the writing is just so freaking stunning. I almost wish I had a copy instead of a library book so I could annotate the crap out of it!

I love and appreciate the conversations in this volume about struggling with your identity and trying to figure out what it means to be “normal” and how isolating it can feel when you don’t feel normal. I feel like this series really captures what it can feel like to be queer and afraid to come out to family and friends. Also that last chapter, I am SCREAMING. ...more

I'm OBSESSED. I didn't realize this was a sci-fi romance, and I love the idea of time travel and alternate realities, this is right up my alley. And these characters are PRECIOUS. I am so invested in this love triangle that's happening and I adore all these characters so much. I can't wait to reread this in the future.

I am not the biggest fan of the second chance romance trope, but I noticed this book getting so much hype on Instagram lately and so I decided to give it a go. I think this book does have an audience, and I can recognize that I am not that audience. I would recommend this book for fans of Love & Other Words by Christina Lauren, or for fans of Morgan Matson, Sarah Dessen, or Nicholas Sparks even. This gave me similar vibes to all those things.
It's such a pet peeve of mine when a book is marketed as an adult romance, and then we spend more than half the book reading about teenagers. If I wanted to read a book about teenage drama, I would pick up a young adult book. But even with that pet peeve of mine, I enjoyed the beginning of this, I thought the characters were cute and it was fine. It was feeling like a 3-star book for me up until that ending, then I just got pissed off. Spoilers ahead but... (view spoiler)[I hate when there's a love triangle between two brothers and a girl, I just think that's so unnecessary and so gross. When it was revealed that she had cheated on Sam with his brother..... that is so disgusting and Sam deserves better. Like that's some unforgiveable fucked up shit. And it just really bothered me how that whole situation was handled. (hide spoiler)]...more

It means so much to me, as someone who identifies as asexual to read about an asexual protagonist in a romance novel. Asexual representation is sadly still so uncommon, which is why I'm so happy this book exists. This book was so relatable, and it hit me so hard. The ending made me emotional, I personally related so hard to a lot of the conversations Joy was having. This book will be on my mind and on my heart for a long time.

I usually love monster horror novels like this to be a little more ambiguous, but this is a pretty straight forward monster slasher horror novel that reads like a horror movie and it's just so intense and so fast paced and I LOVED IT. At first, I wasn't even sure if I liked it, the characters felt kind of cliché and cringe-y, but after a few chapters I got hooked. I was rooting for certain romances and loving the characters so much and my heart was RACING FOR THEM. This has major 'something is out there in the woods stalking them and they don't know what is is' vibes and I LOVED that. I love the way some of the opening scenes would start with a character we don't know, and then we'd watch them get violently ripped to pieces by these creepy ass monsters (it felt very much like a horror movie because of these scenes). This was a lot more gory and graphic than I was anticipating, but like in a good way? In a way that you kind of want horror to be over the top and violent?
I'm just really surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Here's the vlog where I read it: https://youtu.be/pnVkEQdhg1I
Also, I need to talk about some spoilers because... (view spoiler)[My heart SHATTERED when Sawyer died. I was shipping Sawyer and Jane so hard. I was also shipping Ryan and Lauren so hard and the way Lauren died.... omg I gasped so loud. It was so sad and awful. I love the way this book ends, with Ryan basically sacrificing himself to save his sister, omg I was in tears. But then when the group of people who found Jane started taking her back up to a cabin on the mountain I was like askljdkasdka BITCH NO. So frustrating but omg just so good! (hide spoiler)]...more

When I say I want rich people murder vibes, this is exactly what I'm asking for. I had so much fun reading from Lyla's POV in this book, she was cracking me up. There were also a few twists in the plot almost right away that I didn't see coming that kept me invested. In a way, I can understand why this book is getting lower ratings, it's definitely a bit over the top and ridiculous at times, but I had the most FUN with this story and these characters and I enjoyed it for what it is.

I loved the discussion about grief and how it doesn't matter how old you are, losing your Mother will always be terrible and awful and life will not be the same after. I feel like this book was hard to read because it's so depressing, but I could relate to a lot of the things this character was going through. I also love the fact that this book follows a writer, I always love when books follow writers, it inspires me to write.

“Reckless white boys became politicians and bankers, reckless black boys became dead.”
I listened to the audiobook for this one and I am so glad that I“Reckless white boys became politicians and bankers, reckless black boys became dead.”
I listened to the audiobook for this one and I am so glad that I did, the audiobook is so great. This story revolves around three friends Nadia, Luke and Aubrey over many years of their lives. This book mainly revolves around the theme of motherhood, but it also touches on many things like feminism, abortion, and the challenges of being Black in contemporary America. It starts with a pregnant teenage girl having to make impossible decisions about her future, and the story really takes off from there.
“Suffering pain is what made you a woman. Most of the milestones in a woman’s life were accompanied by pain, like her first time having sex or birthing a child. For men, it was all orgasms and champagne.”
I love the writing in this book, it's absolutely gorgeous and thought provoking and makes you think about uncomfortable things like abortion and the struggles of motherhood. These characters were so well fleshed out I felt like I knew them. I can't wait to read more form this author, this was such a great debut.
Here are some more examples of the beautiful writing: “Grief was not a line, carrying you infinitely further from loss. You never knew when you would be sling-shot backward into its grip. —”
“It was strange learning the contours of another’s loneliness. You could never know it all at once; like stepping inside a dark cave, you felt along the walls, bumped into jagged edges.”
“A daughter grows older and draws nearer to her mother, until she gradually overlaps her like a sewing pattern. But a son becomes some irreparably separate thing.”...more

I got so emotionally attached to this main character and all of his friends. It’s hard for me to connect to YA novels lately but every now and then I find a gem like this one and it reminds me why I still try. I love Felix, I love his journey of identity and self discovery in this book, and his romantic endeavors in this book. My heart broke for his complicated relationship with his Mom, and his at-times difficult relationship with his Dad. This isn’t the first own voices trans story that I’ve read and it definitely won’t be my last, I hope more books like this one get published, these stories are so important.
