Marlee Harper has spent the last 10 years being the perfect NFL girlFavorite Quote: “Karma’s a bitch. We’re allowed to laugh once she’s done her job.”
Marlee Harper has spent the last 10 years being the perfect NFL girlfriend, putting up with the catty NFL wives and her narcissistic boyfriend…that is until she discovers her man has been cheating on her. In an upset of the year, Marlee packs her things and leaves, vowing never to date another professional athlete again. Until her ex’s team, the Denver Mustangs, brings in a new hotshot quarterback, Gavin Pope. Marlee had a steamy one night stand with Gavin years ago and never saw him again. Until now.
Gavin is determined to pick up where he and Marlee left off but first, he has to prove to her he is nothing like her ex. But not everyone is willing to let Marlee back into the fold. Between Gavin’s family, his publicist, and the team wives, Marlee has a lot to overcome if she wants to get off the bench and back in the game. When a rumor gets started that makes Marlee enemy number one in the country, Marlee will have to decide what’s more important-Gavin or herself.
Intercepted is a hilarious and smexy debut from Alexa Martin. A former NFL wife herself, she creates a heroine whose voice and sheer moxie will leave you crying with laughter as you watch her navigate the minefield of love, betrayal, bejeweled jerseys and lots of attitude behind the scenes of professional football. Heavily character driven, the conversational style dialogue draws you into Marlee’s life with relative ease. And what a life it is. A website designer by day and football widow by night, she has been with her childhood sweetheart, Chris, since she was 16. Convinced he was the one for her, she has waited patiently for him to realize she is the one for him and put a ring on it. Instead, she has watched and supported his rise to stardom only to him disappoint her from her time and time again with his bad attitude, narcissism, possessive ways, and wandering eye (and eventually penis). But Marlee is no shrinking violet. She gives as good as she gets. She loves her man but she will slap back in a heartbeat.
“First of all, I do listen. Second, check yourself. I get you’re pissed and talking it out on Nike bags and innocent, baked with love cakes, but you will not take it out on me. “
When Chris accidentally take her laptop to work she is forced to use his and discovers that he has been cheating on her for quite a while. Emails and nude photos show her he hasn’t stopped chasing groupies and she leaves him. Unfortunately, the witness to her humiliation is Gavin Pope. Newly hired as their new quarterback, Gavin was a one night stand from years ago that Marlee never quite got over. On a break from her relationship with Chris, she and Gavin hooked up but his lie about his career, he told he was an investment banker, only confirmed her athletes are lying pieces of crap motto. So she left, never to see him again. Or so she thought. When Chris threatens to call the cops if she takes her car (which is in his name) Gavin stands up for her and offers her a ride to her parents’ house.
“I can take you if you need a ride.” “No. She’s not going to burden my boys with her shit.” “You’re not my boy Alexander. And this shit you’re pulling right now is why you never will be.”
Marlee reminded me of Kristen Ashley’s heroines with her love of life, booze, clothes, food, and her entertaining rambling monologues. Intelligent, loyal, funny, and a complete bad arse…Marlee has it all going for her. She also doesn’t take any smack from anyone. True love or not, don’t you dare underestimate her or talk down to her. She’ll cut you off at the knees. I like that she is secure enough in herself that she doesn’t need validation for her choices. Lots of ‘girl power’ moments in here, especially when she and her friends get together.
“Marlee, I swear to god, if you cause another scene like the one you did in preseason, I’m never coming to another game with you again.”
“First of all, I did not start that.”
“Marlee! You called them football rejects and told them the only thing they could do with a football was shove it up their —-“
“Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! You know better than to repeat my war crimes outside the battle…and do you not remember the shit he saying about Dre? Your husband? Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad you stay calm because one of us needs to but you were happy when I said something. You can’t take that back now.”
“Maybe a little bit, but don’t do it again. I can only imagine the joy Courtney would feel finding out you were starting fights at games.”
“Courtney can borrow the reject brothers’ football and shove it up her—“
That is just a taste of the power that keeps Marlee hustling and bustling. Now on her own, independent for the first time, she struggles with her attraction to Gavin and her need to finally be Marlee instead of Marlee and — She gets an apartment, an outside job, finds her people, and begins to recover from her pain but Gavin doesn’t make it easy. Gavin wants Marlee and woos and charms her the way Chris should have. He’s a natural born protector and when he gets a little too autocratic and takes it upon himself to try “fix” Marlee’s problems without talking to her first, she sets him straight. Unfortunately, she begins to fall into the same pattern she did with her ex and ends up forgiving Gavin and letting it go. Until it gets to be too much. But he’s not a stupid man and learns how to grovel for forgiveness.
The first bouquet shows up at my parent’s house the day after I left Gavin’s. The second showed up at HERS two days after, on a Friday. The third, fourth, and fifth, and sixth arrive at my parents’ house. I didn’t even know they delivered on Sundays. My mom thinks they are romantic. My dad and Brynn think it’s obnoxious. I fall somewhere in the middle. Monday, at work. the seventh and eighth bouquets arrive. “If he moves to singing telegrams, I’m going to walk over to his house and kick him in the balls,” Brynn tells me ever so elegantly.
The chemistry between Marlee and Gavin is H.A.W.T. Steamy, panty dropping, hot. I really liked we not only see the physical aspects of their relationship but also the emotional aspects as the romance builds from lust to love. Martin gives them time to work out their problems together while amplifying the sexual tension between them to max levels with a lot of laughs in the meantime. Marlee’s attempts to keep Gavin firmly in the “friends only with benefits” is a losing battle but so much fun to watch. As is her attempts to rationalize it.
I still intend to keep my no more athletes promise, but you know what? I deserve a little fun. What’s wrong with a small indulgence before I turn my apartment into a Jesus-only convent? Not a damn thing.
An amusing cast of secondary characters adds depth and humor to the story, highlighting Marlee and giving her adversaries and allies in her quest towards growth. Martin has a strong hand with characterization and dialogue. Everyone we meet brings something to the table in here and I loved seeing I loved the banter between Marlee and those in her circle. The NFL wives are a nasty bunch and when Marlee finally lets her devil out, I had to laugh but also admire her for taking the high road. The strong relationship with her parents (another KA element) is so fun and of course, her relationship with her bestie, Naomi. The yen to her yang.
The ending is dramatic and heartfelt, which is Marlee in a nutshell. The road to happiness is often paved with a few bumps and potholes and Marlee finally learning that you can only be happy with someone else when you’re happy with yourself is a happy ending we can all cheer for. Everything wraps up nicely and we are even given a small epilogue to assure us that Team Marvin (Marlee-Gavin) has what it takes to make it.
This may be my first read by Alexa Martin but certainly not my last. I wholeheartedly recommend her to everyone who enjoys their couples sexy, funny, romantic, and made of pure unadulterated fun.
When Amalie Whitfield’s husband humiliates her on their wedding day, she grabs her suitcases and heads out on her honeymoon. Solo. Or so she thought. What are the chances that the bad boy she walked away from in the past is also heading to the same location? And this time...he’s not letting her walk away without a fight.
Our story opens to Amalie at her wedding reception, wondering where her groom has disappeared to. She soon discovers his whereabouts when the room’s PA system suddenly turns on and everyone hears her husband having sexual relations with someone besides her.
Someone other than me is blowing my husband at my own wedding.
Disgusted, humiliated, and angry, Amalie heads to the bridal suite to hide and plot her husband’s slow painful death only to discover the groom’s cousin, Lexington, has been hiding out there to escape his date. Her pride stinging, she propositions him only to have him turn her down. Two rejections in one-day smarts so Amalie runs to her best friend and makes plans to annul her marriage while escaping to a small resort for some much needed R&R.
Once I annul this farce of a marriage I’ll become a spinster. I should probably go ahead and adopt six or seven cats.
Amalie can't contain her surprise when she discovers her seatmate is none other than ‘Sexy Lexy’ himself. He too is headed to overseas but for business. His family owns a chain of upscale hotels and he has been making a concentrated effort to become more involved in the business.
Though Amalie and Lex know nothing can become of them they can’t resist the chemistry that blazes between them and decide to indulge themselves. At least until their time on the island is over. But as the old saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
I’m so sick of polite sex. I want someone to pull my hair. I want my ass smacked. I want fuzzy handcuffs and maybe some wild restraints…
Helena Hunting’s Hooking Up follows on the heels of her bestselling Shacking Up. Overflowing with Hunting’s trademark outrageous humor and madcap scenarios, fans get a brief recap while reintroducing our hero and heroine and moving forward with the ongoing storyline. Amalie (Amie) is Ruby’s best friend and Lexington (Lex) is Bane’s older brother. They first met at a party and clicked instantly. Lex’s cousin, Armstrong, also meets Amie at the same event but warns her away from Lex, claiming he is a player and has a left a trail of broken hearts in his wake. Amie has issues with bad boys and bad decisions so she opts for whom she feels is the safer bet and leaves with Armstrong
“I just wanted to make the right choice for once.”
Hunting dips deep into her emotional well and pulls out a romance that is bittersweet in its reveal. The humor can’t hide the pain that Amie feels and it flows off the pages in waves as you absorb everything that has happened. I loved meeting the real Amie. She is a fantastic heroine who has been dealt a bad hand. Creative, sexually mature, and a genuinely good person, her parents have never let her forget one mistake involving a bad boyfriend and a Mexican jail cell. A mistake that she struggled to overcome by becoming the perfect daughter and eventually landing the perfect husband.
“No relationship is perfect. [...] I thought I could make it work and it didn’t even last a night.”
A natural born protector, Lex steps up and does all he can to help Amie recover. He spends time with her helping to rebuild her self-esteem after Armstrong shredded it. Their chemistry blazes white hot but there is more to the attraction. They are two peas in a pod and watching them together is both sweet and funny.
“I think I cracked the nail.” She brings her knee to her chest so she can get a better look, giving me, once again, an excellent view of her panties.
“Amalie.” I close my eyes. Fuck. My dick is pretty goddamn desperate to get out of my pants right now and into what’s under that pale pink satin and lace.
“Oh yeah, the nail is definitely cracked. Ooooh. It’s pretty gross. Why’re your eyes closed? Are you afraid of blood?”
I motion to her with one lid half-open. “Your panties.”
“You're afraid of my panties?”
Lex doesn't want to be Amie’s rebound. He wants more but chooses to do what is best for her. Hunting not only focuses on the physical aspects of their relationship but softly develops the romance alongside. She takes it slow, allowing them to become friends while exploiting the sexual tension to max levels. Dual points of view allow readers an intimate view into their thoughts and feelings towards one another. Both of them have legitimate concerns about their future. Neither of them wants to lose the friendship they have built yet the attraction between them is impossible to ignore.
“I know what I want, and I know exactly how I feel about you. As soon as you figure it out, we can figure it out together.”
Helena Hunting continues to solidify her place in romantic comedies. I wholeheartedly recommend her stories to everyone who enjoys their romances hot, funny, and pure unadulterated fun. ...more

Bounce Back is the sequel to K.M. Jackson’s entertainingly heart-wrenching Bounce. Bounce introduced us to Sabrina and Sean Jacobs-the all American family. Sabrina is devastated when Sean tells her had an affair. Suddenly everything Sabrina believed in is gone and replaced with fear, disillusionment, and heartbreak. Jackson did an excellent job of examining the insecurity many couples face in relationships and the emotional and mental journey Sabrina takes as she copes with what happened and if she is willing to forgive Sean and take him back or forget him and their marriage altogether.
“Nothing is more important than our time rebuilding our marriage.”
Bounce Back is definitely lighter than Bounce. Jackson pays special attention to Sabrina’s lingering feelings of resentment and anger towards Sean while she attempts to navigate her new life working from home and trying to understand the politics of the PTA. Solid narration from Sabrina’s POV gives us an intimate view of all her emotions and thoughts; giving the story a more humorous, less serious this time around. I loved Sabrina in Bounce and was pleased to see her characterization and dialogue stays mostly the same. She deals with numerous topics in here from her sister’s almost militant refusal to commit to her boyfriend to the dreaded chair that she sees as the enemy in her marriage. She talks about being African American in a predominantly white town, her fear that her kids love the nanny more than her, that she has become too “mom looking”, and her ever present awareness of her husband’s attractiveness to the opposite sex. She also deals with her own attention from the opposite (and same) sex that is both flattering and strange.
A solid subplot intertwines with Sabrina’s story, giving us another look at infidelity in the marriage and the different ways couples deal with it. Cassandra Stanton, Sabrina’s nemesis, is a woman of many contrasts. She and her marriage, like Sabrina’s, seems perfect but the rot is there and we see how her heritage and childhood dictates the decisions she makes. Sabrina’s storyline almost takes a backseat to this one storyline in terms of conflict. I found Cassandra’s need to maintain the status quo and the excuses she makes for her husband’s behavior very interesting.
“…that has to be the biggest load of bullshit that you’re trying to pass off as the truth…as if being an asshole has a race or gender for that matter, and worse yet, as if the pain somehow excludes you. Trust me, none of us are excluded from that club, sweetheart.”
A varied cast of secondary characters from the average to the outrageous help to round out the story and give readers some laugh out loud moments as this small, prestige little town seems to rival Peyton Place in some areas. Soccer moms and femme fatales are in abundance. Though Sabrina feels a little out of place, she does have the beginnings of a strong network at her back. There is a dinner party that let me giggling because I could easily imagine the looks on Sean and Sabrina’s face when they walked in on the “after party” entertainment.
The ending is both a victory and vindication for Sabrina and Cassandra. They came…they saw…and they kicked arse both personally and professionally. Sabrina and Sean have gotten even closer in their new beginnings and Cassandra learns that while life has no guarantees, the only thing holding her back is herself.
Bounce Back is a fun, witty, laid back contemporary romance that is sure to please fans of Bounce and K.M. Jackson. I do hope Jackson continues this series. I’d like to see more of this town and it’s characters.

Disappointing is the word that comes to mind after reading this. I Do! is a short novella that gives us Sadie and Vince's wedding with a side order of NA romance. I enjoyed the follow ups to previous characters in the series. Their dialogue was crisp and the storyline flowed like water with plenty of humor. The problem was the romance between Becca and Nate. The artifice screamed at you as Gibson tries to force them together. All Nate thinks about is sex. Literally. Every thought that came out of his head was about how he waned to have sex with Becca or he alluded to having sex with previous women. He never even thinks of Becca as a person, just a set of perfect boobs, the perfect butt, the perfect legs, ect...All Becca thinks about is hair and making it big in the hair styling business. The dialogue between them was stiff and clunky and I couldn't help but feel Gibson just wasn't comfortable making this couple sexual. ...more

Sophie and Brandon met in college and the connection was instant. They fell in love, got married, and built a fairy tale life. 10 years of love and family is destroyed with one single bad decision. Sophie sends Brandon and their children away for the summer so she can work out exactly what happened and where to go from here. Tia, Sophie's free spirited sister, swoops in and drags Sophia to Mexico, determined to show her that the women she was 10 years ago is still there...she just needs some coaxing to come out. While in Mexico, Sophia begins to come out of her hibernation and her healing starts. As Brandon sees Sophia healing and moving away from him,, he travels to Mexico, determined to win her back and prove that their love is still as powerful today as it was when they first met.
Oh my. What an emotional journey. This romance contemporary addresses love, marriage, infidelity, forgiveness and the long road back to finding yourself. As a married woman myself, this book hit hard with some of the observations that we see. Relationships are always works in progress. And communication is the cornerstone on which a relationship is built. When you stop talking...that's when the problems start. Toler uses the past and the present to show us how good Sophia and Brandon were together and where their problems started. She doesn't play the blame game; rather she uses complete honestly when showing us Brandon and Sophia's feelings and thoughts then and now. Bittersweet with bouts of humor, angst, and steamy love scenes, Toler shows us that life is short and should be lived to it's fullest. ...more

But when the stakes get higher and the killer bolder, Cord will have to make sure Tracy stays alive if he wants a shot at his happily ever after.
Floodgates is a classic Mary Calmes novella. A beautiful bumbling protagonist, a pushy ex-lover, a quiet mega alpha potential lover, a loving overprotective family, and a mystery. Fans of Calmes Matter of Times series will see a strong similarity to Jory and Sam throughout this story. In both the character makeups and storyline.
We open with Tracy in his office where he works as an accountant for an import business. Gunman break in and shoot the place up, catching Tracy in the crossfire. We are led to believe that his boss’s brother, a notorious Russian gangster, has something to do with it. Is he responsible? Unknown as this storyline is only used to bring the ex lover and potential lover into the picture. From there we learn Tracy is in danger because his ex bi sexual love seems to have developed a stalker who wants to make him pay for some choices in his past. As Tracy struggles to discover who wants him dead and why, he is also dealing with his ex who won’t go away and a potential lover who scares him to dead.
While I enjoyed the story, it was more because of the characters than the actual storyline. I adored meeting Tracy and the people he interacts with on a daily basis. His family was utterly delightful and the strong connection of love and respect that exists between them was comforting. The sexual tension and witty banter that existed between Tracy and Cord kept me laughing. Frenemies to lovers is a great trope and always fun to watch the romance develop. I did feel their romance developed fast but it made sense as they had been heading in this direction for five years.
The story itself was a problem. Loose and unstructured with random nonsense plotlines that came and went with impunity. The mystery was vague with a keystone cops investigation mentality and a villain that elicited more sympathy rather than horror. The ex lover’s reasons for leaving his family for so long was never fully explained and I found Tracy was just too forgiving in regards to his actions. I was also confused by some of choices Cord made in regards to the Tracy’s safety and felt he knew more but we weren’t privy to the knowledge. The ending is predictable as was the epilogue. Again, Matter Of Time version 2.0.
While Mary Calmes remains a comfort read for me and I will continue to read her stories, this one definitely needed some tightening up.

When I started this book I was excited by the premise. Hot boxer involved in a tragedy abandons the sport to train, only to fall for his trainee's girlfriend. Hello??? Angst and drama on aisle 13.
BUT
I didn't count on the cheating. Now, I can take cheating in a storyline if the H/h either has an abusive SO or is a serial cheater and the H/h knows and has had enough. Basically in both instances the relationship they are in is dead for all intents and purposes.
BUT
In here, the heroine (and I use that word lightly) has her cake and eats it too. She sleeps with both men. Over and over and over. Reminded me of Thoughtless; which was a book that made me want to repeatedly stab the heroine. Why is it so hard to make a choice? Or, at least do nothing until you can make that choice? What on earth will either learn from cheating? Her excuses didn't fly for me, either. She didn't know her boyfriend was cheating on her until after she cheated on him, so she doesn't get a pass on that. I was also let down by the hero. He seemed to have such a strong moral code but when he lets little Gio think for big Gio, his brains go out the window with those morals.
To be fair, the writing is wonderful and Reyes builds an engaging story that is sure to appeal to many readers of NA. I just wish I could have actually liked the storyline and the H/h because in my eyes, they were both losers and the romance was a bust....more

Though it entertained me overall, there were times I was bored and wanted to skip ahead. I liked the h/h and secondary characters but I really didn't feel we got to know them that well. They are formulitic. A case of tell not show. Insta love is quick and Brax (the hero) was a bit stupid and whiny at times. There are a few subplots that add depth and continuity to the storyline.
There are formatting and grammar issues. Missing punctuation being the worse. The chapter's alternate between the hero and the heroine POV and at times you aren't sure who is speaking.
