It’s been a long time since I didn’t absolutely love a Ruby book. While I did find this book enjoyable don’t get me wrong, it’s just not a favorite for whatever reason. I think I’m just being stubborn and refusing to admit this series has grown so much and for so long just like the characters. It’s weird that after so many books you really do feel oddly related to the characters and I think my mind refuses to accept little Sessah is already grown up and it’s his turn for a mate. 🤷🏼♀️🤣
I always love a revisit to the infamous fruit cave. It was the perfect setting for Sam to reconnect with this adult Sessah and accept him as her mate. I really loved her storyline and background. It made so much sense regarding her character as it’s taken until now to finally understand why she was so happy to land on an ice planet. This was exactly the love story Sam needed and I’m glad she has finally found her happy place.
I’m not sure why I didn’t love Sam being such a badass because she really was. 🤫 But in my defense I think it’s only because Sessah kept getting his ass kicked and it reminded me how ultimately gentle and vulnerable the sakhui on the planet are to outsiders. Sessah’s people know only kindness and working together. Things like murder, assault and especially rape are unheard of in the tribe and so Sam had to be the one to make tough choices. However in her character arc she needed this giant moment of triumph to overcome her fears and find peace once again. I never thought that the ‘packages’ landing on the planet could be so threatening and now I’m hoping that’s not going to be a recurring thing. (view spoiler) As always I am beyond eager to see what’s next and while I don’t love the time jumps or admitting the series is getting closer to an end, I am ready for the next one!
