This is a Historical Fiction book. I had so many different feelings about this book. I really did not like Elizabeth's character in this book. I did not like that Elizabeth was so smart, but she was so dumb at the same time. I hate that she did not see people walking all over her. I also did not think she really put a fight for women rights. I just felt she did everything to make things hard on herself. I really wanted to love this book, but I just did not. I hated the first half of this book, and the second half of this book I liked not loved. I also did not understand the dog stuff, and I felt all the dog stuff was weird. I found parts of this book funny. The ending was good, but I saw it coming. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Doubleday Books) or author (Bonnie Garmus) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I have to be honest this is not my favorite book. The main character Elizabeth is not my favorite character. Some of the things Elizabeth does makes me so mad. I have enjoyed some parts of this book, but there are a lot of parts that just makes me so mad.
oh good to know. alrightie, it moves down the list...
thankfully, there's like a million other books to plow thru first. (hee hee)

Hmmm...sorry to hear that Tina. I thought this was a funny witty story and the dog added was laughable.

Debby*BabyDee wrote: "Hmmm...sorry to hear that Tina. I thought this was a funny witty story and the dog added was laughable." I also found parts of this book to be funny. I felt the dog parts was funny, but my biggest problems with the dog parts is they where very unbelievable. Like, who would let a dog pick their kid up from school. Also, what school would let a dog pick up the kid from school. I also cannot believe a dog learns that many words. I would like to think my dog is smart, but I do not think she would be able to do anything that dog did.
It's so hard to like a book when you dislike the main character... and if it's predictable, well there's not much to be looking forward to

Your review really illustrates the fact that not every book is for everybody. This is not a criticism. I am half way through and totally savouring every minute of it. The things you did not like, I loved.
I hope you enjoy your next books more.

I do not take as criticism :) I have always said Everyone is different and Not all books are for everyone. I have also found books I hate one year I could love a different year that I read it. I think it also depends where you are in life and mind space too. I am glad you loved it.

I agree. And that's why i like being in a book group & chatting on this site & my a FB books site. While I had my opinion reading a book, the discussion helps you see another point of view. Or depending on your thoughts, you can see that someone else felt the same & you weren't alone. (especially when in the minority on your opinion of a popular book)

I am only in the Netgally one and the book of the month one.
some specific writer ones, but also Book Hoarders, I Love Romances, Bookaholics, women reading books, etc. But I too am on a netgalley one. I wonder if it's the same as you...small world.

while it's a bummer on a hyped book, it's nice to know that while it's not many, i'm not alone in my opinion of not liking it.
