roe horvat is the only author i trust to write erotica with emotional connection, value, and sentiment. hell, he’s the only author i read erotica from and look forward to it. add to that that he’s the only author i’ve read omegaverse from. filthy and dirty, and then sweet and soft. the way i started this immediately after it released and forced myself to inhale every page until my eyes couldn’t stay open anymore to the point where tears fell down because of how tired i was says enough.
i don’t think i’ll ever get tired of this author's writing. despite the fact that i haven’t been a fan of every book i’ve read by him, i can count on him to deliver short and sweet stories that serve its purpose of entertainment and suspension of disbelief, as well as pure delight and awe. i have yet to come across another author who writes like him. this, of course, includes sex. i’m not even one to pay much attention to them but with his stories i’m glued to every page, even shamelessly going back and re-reading some scenes.
i enjoyed this much more than book 1. i felt the connection, loved both characters, and appreciated much more about it. some of y’all already know i’m a slut for age gaps—you have the rich, almost retired, silver fox in his 40s who’s experienced in many different areas, wondering what to do with his life, hoping he’ll settle down soon. then you have the shy, college student in his early 20s looking for a job to make funds enough to continue furthering the future he wishes to have. you add the two together and you have a opposites attract, age gap, hurt/comfort story with an alpha hoping to take care of his future boy and a small omega approaching his heat. these two had such a sweet and cute relationship. the way richard took such good care of carter when he was in heat? how he’d pound himself inside and then caress him, nip, and spoon him? how he would always ask carter if he’s okay, comfortable, and feels good? how he’d move heaven and hell to make sure he was safe and protected? the possessiveness he started feeling? all the mine mine mine? i was in awe. it was a delight to read about these two. i could read an extra 100 and even 200 pages of these two just being together. imagine seeing them being lovey lovey with noodle, their dog, and their future child? i’d be giggling to that shit.
i can talk about multiple scenes this book had that showed the softness of these two, especially of richard towards carter. i loved seeing how he became someone so focused on work to someone appreciating the beauty and value of an unexpected an important person in his life. i also loved reading about the future carter had for himself and how hopeful he was of becoming an english teacher. even if we don’t see the scenes, i can only imagine how wonderful he’d be. despite how sexual this book is, it has so many soft and sweet scenes throughout the novel. it’s a reason why i love reading roe’s books because even though erotica is essentially a genre focusing more on sex, there is romance in between his pages and characters. in all his books i’ve read, both characters always worship each other in their own way, appreciating the connection the two begin growing that shows the increase of their emotions and feelings.
all in all, this was loving. i also loved seeing the cameos of burke and emerson from book 1 and hope kirby gets his book soon.

“It’s me who’s grateful, Carter,” Richard whispered. His fingers skimmed my neck and along my collarbone. “Thank you for letting me touch you. For trusting me.” Another kiss, a flick of his tongue against mine. “For this incredible moment. Thank you. Thank you so much.”

“You’ve changed my life. In the short time I’ve known you, you’ve managed to change me.” Talking and breathing were suddenly difficult to synchronize properly. I swallowed. “I’m jaded, entitled, and arrogant, and I’ve made plenty of mistakes in my life, chasing after meaningless trophies, taking my luck for granted, until all my victories tasted like dirt. Then you appeared on my patio and almost magically peeled away years of bitterness and rust from my heart. I only need to look at your sweet face, and suddenly, my existence makes sense again.”

This sounds adorable! Haven't read much from him actually, but I agree that the way he does emotions even within the smut is something rarely seen in other erotica. Fantastic review by the way! Those quotes are just 🥰
this sounds so good, an age gap AND opposites attract?! 😫 carter and Richard 🥺
omegaverse gets clowned so much, i’m surprised you really enjoyed it! but how could u not when Richard takes care of carter in heat 🥲
amazing review Elena 💞💞 hopefully the author supplies you with an extended epilogue 🤞

aw thank you, gloria! i also wanna read more mm by queer men. hopefully i’ll be able to find more soon. and yes my favorite from him is Desires of a Monster! it’s short but ticked off all the boxes for me. it’s a story of a monster and his human boy though, so if you’re not into that skip it. 😂 it was the first i read from this author and made me curious about his other published works. i hope you enjoy it if you decide to give it a chance! keep in mind it’s paranormal erotica so some things may not make sense but it’s pnr so what do we expect??

Great review, Elena! I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on this one! Glad it was an improvement over book 1 and you thoroughly enjoyed! :)
I am really not a fan of erotica and don’t ever read it, so hearing you say this author is the only erotica you read, i was definitely intrigued. The way you explained that this was more than just sex and you can actual feel the emotions, softness, etc definitely has an appeal to me, because the lack of those things is one of the reasons why i usually avoid erotica hahah. I still don’t love too much smut and sex scenes, so perhaps i won’t read this anyway, but if i do want to go that route, i’ll keep this one in mind😉 It seems like this one has at least a little more depth!!
lovely review, Elena!💗 it’s gotta be a good one if you’ve got me contemplating reading an erotica book😂

thank you, candy! yes, it was so cute and adorable. truly one of the softest books i've read from him. i don't know how he does it but every time i read a book from him, it always feels new.

thank you, sha sha! 🤍 the way richard took care of carter was one of my favorite things. that man would lay everything down for him. i haven't read omegaverse by anyone else and don't know if i ever will. it's not something i like and not something that calls my name, but if it's by this author, i'm counting the days till it releases. 😩 idk much about an extended epilogue but i’m hoping the next book will feature cameos of them!

Ooh this sounds like a wonderful read and I need one of those 😭 lovely review boo😘 can this be read as a standalone? I have only read one book by this author so I know the erotica is good 😏

thank you, imme! i don’t either. the first book i read from this author was Desires of a Monster (my current favorite from him and one i always recommend) and then i knew i was in for a ride. 😂 i don’t read erotica for the same reasons you stated. i need more than just sex and the lack of romantic and emotional connection falters my enjoyment. i also don’t pay attention to sex scenes and don’t mind a romance without sex. but this author definitely nails the emotional connection imo. it’s omegaverse so you kind of have to go with the flow, but at the same time i can understand the feelings the characters develop of each other outside the sex. if you ever give him a chance, i hope you like it! 💛

yes mila i hope you like it! and yes, you can! 😊 the first book is Ugly, but i wasn't a fan of it. you can read this one as a standalone, but there are scenes where the protagonists of "ugly" (burke and emerson) make appearances. there's also small mentions of them overall but i don't think it will make this book confusing or anything.

I got butterflies while reading ur review!! I am also a huge sucker for age gaps!! I will try this out soon! Amazing review Elena!
Lovely review girl! I'm happy that you've got this author to rely on to provide some good writing - never something we can take for granted! The character development & overall approach of the plot line sounds really sweet & I'm happy for you that this book in the series proved to be even better than the first!
Great review, elena! 💞 I haven't finished it, but i'm definitely a fan of this book as well. Roe Horvat did it again❤️
