lmao if i had known this book would basically be a RETELLING of the first book (but in Casโ€™ POV), i wouldnt have bothered re-reading the previous books in preparation for this one. ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ˜ญ curse me to hell for never checking the blurb. clearly, i trusted this author too much. if this had been the original pilot to the series instead of FBAA, i wouldve given this four stars or higher (because: this was well written; was not bogged down by long-winded world building, history lessons, or inner monologues; and Cas was simply a (more) charming narrator).

what i appreciated from this book was being able to see Cas vulnerable side as well as his inner struggle and conflicted feelings about Poppy (saving his brother vs. falling in love with the โ€œenemyโ€) at the beginning of their relationship. iโ€™d always seen him as someone who was decisive, confident, and powerful. however, in this book he was more melancholic. he served the tortured hero image pretty well while still managing to be playful, sexy, and dark/violent (especially when he was being possessive, protective over Poppy and acting all touch her you die-like).

that said, im giving this installment three stars because: while i sometimes wondered about Cas thoughts during specific occasions throughout the first two books, i hardly think re-writing the WHOLE first book in Casโ€™ POV was necessary. imo, JLA shouldve made this a shorter novella containing Casโ€™ POV on certain MAJOR events only or detailing his backstory. i also think this couldve been a companion novel about Malik & Millicent. i would definitely wanna read that. they intrigue me! book 4 & 5 just didnt hit for me personally. they felt like a blatant money grabber and a fan service (selling The Joining & Casโ€™ POV).

EmBibliophile Lol!! You reread the first four books for a book that was a retelling??๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I think retellings should be done in a novella form indeed. A whole book is too much. I only read the first book and it was okay, still need to give the rest a try. xx

lila WAIT OMG you reread the first 4 books just to read this?? girl -- i could never ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’€ i also wanna read this but im glad to know there isn't too much info-dumping in this and it was a fun read!! but i also wanted cas' pov sometimes, not the entire series in his pov, so im conflicted about reading this :/ maybe i'll just skim LOL. she should have definitely only put the major events in this and not the entire thing ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜‚

len โ€ yeah i heard it offered almost nothing new. i know many people will appreciate it but i think you have to be a big cas fan for that. even though i havenโ€™t read this i would find something like this a little useless, but thatโ€™s really because iโ€™m not a fan of another book in the series being the same thing from a previous book by in the other mcs pov. but honestly, it sounds nice that the readers are at least able to see a more vulnerable side to cas. even with how repetitive it can feel since you know whatโ€™s gonna happen, thereโ€™s different angles you can see to the characters. glad you still enjoyed it, at least! ๐Ÿ’•

Anna [Bran. San. Stan] Oh man, that sucks! ๐Ÿ™ˆ And then book didnโ€™t even offer anything new? *smh* Loved your review though!

yes, i did. i absolutely had no idea this was going to be a repeat of book 1. ๐Ÿ˜ญ i think the series gets better in the second book but starts to decline after the third book (#4 & #5). ๐Ÿ’”

ikr! im the fool in this scenario. ๐Ÿ˜ญ trust me youre not missing out on much if you skip this entirely. just read the FIRST and LAST chapter, and youre good. skim the rest or pick which scene youve always been curious about and wanted to have Cas POVs on when reading the first book. ๐Ÿ™Œ

im afraid you heard right. im a Cas fan, and theres certainly things to appreciate in this book, but its pushing it too far. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ i get upset just thinking of purchasing the book at a normal price when the content is practically the same as one of the previous installments. thank you! ๐Ÿ’—

yes, unfortunately. ๐Ÿ˜ข thank you! ๐Ÿ’—

Sonia The fact that your reread book 1-4 in preparation for this one ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป you deserve a medal lol

Iโ€™m still waiting for my libraries to get this one ๐Ÿ˜ญ theyโ€™re so slow

Arini @Sonia - i do, dont i? ive re-read the series a few times just for fun; but im salty the one time i did it to commemorate the new release, it ended up being totally unneeded. ๐Ÿ˜ค well, i hope you get your copy soon whether through your libraries or other means. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ’™

Tabitha The whole synopsis of the book makes it very clear that it is HIS POV and HIS MEMORIES....
