really liked it

The writing was beautiful and so was the story, but there were 2 major turning points in this novel, both of them unexpected and shocking. I didn't really buy into either of them.

Angela M Says a lot that in spite of your reservations, you gave it 4 stars .

Seawitch Agree completely! Loved the atmospheric setting, the writing, but found the turning points incongruent.

Diane Barnes The writing was beautiful, Angela, but the turning points, as Seawitch mentions, was incongruent with the personalities of John and Mary. Absolutely out of character.

Seawitch And seemed out of historical character too … perhaps also more believable if the time on the island was more than 4 weeks.

Diane Barnes Also, learning a new language in that time too, when he was unconscious for at least a week.

Seawitch Ah yes. I forgot about that!

Lisa T I loved this book so much…then the 2 unexpected, incongruous pop-ups ruined it for me. It just didn’t fit. And it somehow cheapened a very beautiful relationship.

Diane Barnes Exactly Lisa. It was a beautiful story til then.

Steve Totally with you on the speed of events and couldn't understand why she didn't just plot it over many months vs weeks, especially the relationship part. That said i dont think they had much to pass the time day to day inside that cabin so maybe our 21 century smart phone brains just cant comprehend it?!
