i havent written a review in a good minute. but the year's ending so let me make this quick and fun <33
♤ this book was literally so fun! but it was on my cr for a MONTH. so we're gonna ignore that. but i fully 100% reccomend this. such an easy read and a stunning debut novel.
♤ i think what made this book so fun and satisfying in the end was that the characters were real and relatable. they had depth. and i just loved this book because of the asian rep <33 and the culture. anything about that genre or topic will always make me wanna read it. le did such a great job w describing everything and the family dynamics. love love loved it.
♤ and i think thats one of the main reasons it made me want to keep reading. light and easy. fun characters. but i wouldn't say fully light because u find out why the two families have been rivaling and what caused all this angst and drama.
♤ one last thing, this book had me HUNGRY. since both families owned resturants i wanted to eat whatever was described. like wow amazing detail. and the vibes were cozy. i would want to sit down and read this book with pho on a rainy day. talk about the cover!! in love.
this book also deals with grief, loss, and struggles from the Vietnam war. including some racism.
overall, i found this book to be a delight. i just wish it didn't take me so long to read 😭 but thats on me. so proud and amazed when i read debut novels. a goal of mine tbh <3 the book just felt a bit repetitve sometimes and a bit rushed. also they are seniors in highschool so it could get a bit sterotyped. but simple 3 star easy read.
will be reading more from this author in the future when she comes out w more books! have a happy new year guys, ily soso much. may 2024 bring great new book releases tehe!!
