it was ok
bookshelves: adventure, dark, fiction, drugs-alcohol, political, satire, dnf

I'm pulling the plug with the book on page 168. Even though it is a chunkster, I've read enough to know that it is not for me. The satire is biting, but not funny. All of the characters are both dumb (there's no better way to put it) and morally challenged.

The one bright spot is Angie, a bank teller who is being held captive. She manages to inject a little humor into the story. She falls for her captor, Boyd. Boyd robbed the bank where she was a teller and took her with him on the lam. Angie discovers that Boyd has a "problem with telling the truth." While on the run, he also shoots up a bus with passengers on it, just for the h--- of it. Angie thinks he needs to find Jesus. The story goes along in this vein. There is also a whole cast of unsavory characters chasing after Boyd and Angie.

Unfortunately, there's not enough here to hold my interest. It's time to find another book.

Bruce Katz Ouch. And so the book drops several notches on my to-read list.

Holly R W Ouch is right! I've tried two times to read the book and now have finally put it aside.

Kerrin Bummer! I hope your next read is 5-stars.

Holly R W Thanks, Kerrin. I'm hoping to find a book that is satisfying.

Susan Oof, sorry it was such a dud for you! Hope your next read is much better!

Ann Well I have listened to the first hour or two, and I'm getting close to going to something else - as you did. These people are just not entertaining me - and I had such high hopes for this new one from an author I have previously loved.

Thanks, Susan. I read so many books that I'm bound to run into a clunker now and then.

Ann, I had high hopes for it too. It seems that the book is generating mixed reviews.

Canadian Jen I hate when this happens but better to ditch it before hating yourself for finishing it!

Barbara Oh shoot Holly! I looked at the very dumb characters as O'Brien's slap at the Trump administration. My husband was a fan of his, so I've built some thick skin....if I don't laugh, I'll find a bus with my name on it.....

Jen, you're so right!

Barbara, it's all right. I did see the pokes at Trump while reading it. It just wasn't for me.
