really liked it

4/5 ⭐️ This book has the dead wife trope which I try to stay away from but sometimes I like to read outside of my comfort zone. This one turned out to be a pretty good one and I liked it more than I thought I would.

I liked that Sig was protective of Abby from the beginning and I really enjoyed his jealous moments 😌. I also liked how she got him to love again and it was actually pretty sweet. I also enjoyed how angsty it was at times.

The only thing I didn’t like was that Abby was technically the main pursuer in the relationship. But I guess it had to be that way since Sig was very closed off after his wife died.

If you don’t like the dead wife trope then be mindful before reading this because it definitely was a bit hard to read each time she was mentioned and how much he loved her 😔. But the upside is that at least I didn’t feel like the heroine was the consolation prize which I was worried about. By the end, I actually believed he loved her the same if not more than his late wife.

TROPES:
💗Widower
💗Age Gap
💗Semi Slow-burn
💗Forbidden
💗Found Family
💗British Hero

SK (Back for good this time? We'll see) I try to avoid that trope as well. But am glad to see it turned out way better than you expected it to be. Although it sounds like a beautiful book, am afraid it's going to make me cry a lot...

Nayeli ♡ I like it when we find books outside our comfort zone and end up liking them! so happy it was a winner for you! 💗😊

message 3: by Lilyya (new)

Lilyya ♡ ah it’s been a hot minute since i read a book by this author but im glad you enjoyed it, love! the tropes you listed are so appealing *adds immediately to tbr* awesome review💘! also was the wife part like a taboo subject on their relationship or was he able to talk about her ?

Maeghan 🦋 HIATUS on & off I’m happy you found yourself enjoying this even if you stay clear from that trope usually! Always a fun surprise!! Stunning review gorgeous ❤️

Vivian Diaz @SK thank you love! 💕 and it did make me tear up a bit 😭

Vivian Diaz @Nayeli yes! It’s such a great feeling! Thank you lovely! 🥰

Christina (stinarinareads) I totally feel you, the dead wife trope is usually something I avoid as well! I’m so glad this ended up working for you though💛 love when we step out of our comfort zones and win. Same thing happened for me with It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey with the dead wife trope, and it ended up being one of my fave reads last year❤️

Vivian Diaz @Lilyya thank you bby ❤️ and same! I used to stay away from her books because there’s always ow drama but sometimes that’s what I’m in the mood for 😆 and not at all. They were both very open and talked about her sometimes. He was actually not pining after her anymore either so that made me feel better.

Vivian Diaz @Maeghan thank you my gorgeous love! ❤️🫶🏻

bruna dead wife trope? yikesss 😂 i'm glad you still enjoyed this book even though it had this trope that you aren't a fan of, that's such a great feeling 🤍 beautiful review bby! <3

message 11: by Anna (new)

Anna I agree, the dead wife trope is not one of my favourites but sometimes it works for me. I much prefer the ow to be alive and well. I am glad it worked for you.

Vivian Diaz @Christina yeah. I can’t stand it most of the time 😭 especially if the author makes it seem like the heroine is the second choice but that was not the case here. Thank God! Lol 😆 and omg yes! I love IHOS too! It was so good!

♥︎ Heather ⚔ (New House-Hiatus) Yaaay happy you enjoyed it bby! I haven't read Penelope Ward in forever - I should probably try some of her books again soon. 💘

Rachel Besides the dead wife, is there any other woman drama? Has he been celibate since her death?
