The hero was tormented.

My tolerance came to an end at chapter 21. I am sorry-not-sorry to say I had enough with the hero’s previous capture and abuse as well as with his guilt of not having been able to rescue his brother.
There was lack of chemistry between the mcs, who were flat and uninteresting.
