It is with infinite sadness that I give this review one star.

I have considered Thea Harrison's Elder Races series a fine example of the way paranormal romance (PNR) should be written since the very first book, having devoured each and every offering in the series as "must read." I am not a huge romance fan and I need a well written story over and above the relationship to hold my interest, I need well done and, for the most part, plausible adult content and I need a well wrapped book arc with no marketing manipulation endings.

Until Night's Honor Thea Harrison was one of a short list of people who offered those very things.

If you do not like cliff hangers or endings that are overt and blatant attempts to sell you the next book then just stop reading Night's Honor at the last chapter, and avoid the Epilogue. Even at that you will have disproportionately more romance angst than non-relationship story. In truth the entire book felt a bit like a set up for the next book, an introduction to the politics of the Vampyre Demense, its heavy hitters, and what the conflicts are as well as the romance background of the next books' protagonists. But avoid the Epilogue if you don't want to close the book feeling like you slogged through 300 pages of teaser.

I wish I had.
