This is one of those crazy reviews that I truly do not think people will understand unless they have already read and enjoyed the other books in this (or her many other) series. What does that mean exactly? Well, let's just say that Ms. Harper has a very unique and eclectic sense of humor and for those of us who do get her sense of humor, well, it's as funny as heck.
This is the third book in this series and she is continuing with her pattern of releasing the books on audio first, before they are release in print. At first, I wasn't sure what I thought about that because I am one of those weird readers that likes to alternate between reading and listening. BUT....this series is SO unique that it is truly best experienced through listening, and I have come to think that Ms. Harper was actually a literal genius when she made that decision.
This is the third book that takes place on an island in the northeast called Starfall Point. Over the first two books, we have learned quite a lot about this island, specifically about a certain house on this island (no spoilers) that has QUITE the history. In the first two books, we got to meet and follow the first two of the trio of women that are drawn to the house and are trying to uncover what the actual heck is going on. We have- as of yet - only been given snippets of Alice Seastairs and her life, and boy oh boy have we felt sorry for her.
Alice is living a life on the island dominated by her absolutely crazy grandparents - who own one of the antique/second hand stores on the island. And this, boys and girls, is HER story.
So, we are thrown back onto the island, we learn lots and lots more about the history of, well, lots of things, and of course....Alice is part of a love story as well.
All in all, if you love Molly Harper, you will love this book. Amanda Ronconi and Teddy Hamilton are the narrating duo for this story and since Ms. Ronconi has practically been with this author since the VERY beginning, you already know it is going to be great. And, for those of us who enjoy the romance genre, Teddy Hamilton is practically narrating royalty, so...again....it's a total win.
While this could PROBABLY be read as a stand alone, I wouldn't do it. There is so much back story and so much FUN in the back story and the characters. I mean, truly, where else can you find a very uppity but extremely lovable ghost butler....??? Seriously.
So, go and find book 1 and go from there. You won't be disappointed.
