Rumor has it there are puppies in this book.<3
So I’m not going to beat around the bush here: this is my least favorite Lisa Henry to date (not familiar with J.A. Rock’s work YET, so I can’t comment on it). The slow build up, fits and starts, interspersed with a flashback chunk, a sudden miraculous wrap-up and a sugary epilogue, failed to draw me in. Besides, I normally love Henry’s MCs to pieces...until now. Until Lane. My problem with Lane wasn’t that he's such a typical victim. I get the ‘why’s’. But it was too much for me. Way too much. Again and again, his angst was shoveled down my throat (“Please don’t judge me, please don’t reject me, please don’t hurt me”). To a point where I just wanted to lock the weakling up in a bench with the other lap dogs and a baby monitor, down a bottle of wine and run off to dance the night away. And here I thought I was more the nurturing type…
Overall, a miss for me because puppy play is not my kink (YMMV), I didn’t feel any chemistry between the MCs, and Lane had more chemistry with a shy dog called Andy than with his love interest.
Buddy read with the awesome Anna (Bananas!).

Looking through the reviews, this is Love/Hate one. You'll love it, or ... not.

You are reading this now? No wonder you didn't show up for the other BR on Luke's Brutal Abduction - The Whole Story. Started 11/11/13.
Anyways, have a good time with this one kay. I meant to be reading this one soon too.

Which one was that again? We've had a few disasters.:D

Oh! I thought you might be referring to our Lethal Affairs debacle. Or Fool for Love. Or..or..
Aren't we troopers! We never give up our holy crusade for the perfect buddy read, my friend!:D
PS Muscling Through was a small success!

Want Me and One Saved to the Sea went well. We're running on at least a 50% success rate...
Troopers indeed.
Troopers indeed.
Want Me! <3 *Sighhh contently* A great book with awesome buddies to read with. What more can one asks for? xoxoxoxoxo
Compelling so far! At this point I don't understand the 1 star ratings. They seem harsh for a book that's okay-written. Maybe things will change when they get their kink on. Only non-human puppies so far. Where ya at Anna?
The 1 star would be because I found it kinda boring, and couldn't be bothered to finish the book, AND I had paid over $6 for the copy, so felt kinda cheated.
A shame, because the plot as outlined in the synopsis had loads of potential.

Aww, take your time Anna. I'm about 60 pages away from the finish, but now I'm stuck in a dramalama fest. I think I'll wait for you to get a little further before I continue. I'd like to know what the puppy play thing does for you!
Yblees, I think I'm beginning to understand what you mean. This one started out with so much potential, but what do you do when you want to shake the MC and don't feel any chemistry?:/

Ilhem should have been Yblees. I saved both your names to my phone and picked the wrong one.:p Edit later!

LOL, what a lovely word! I like it!
Ilhem is not bad too, but more than one name is confusing ;-)
You've said it exactly right - no chemistry. If I'd felt the chemistry, it wouldn't have been such a bore. The kid had more chemistry with the ignoring dog, than with the older guy.

Haha!<3 I get it...there are time when I wish I could be a cat or dog too and not worry about things like a career, money, love life etc. But reading about playing a puppy during sex turns out to be the equivalent of taking a cold shower for me.:D

This book sure is a lengthy bugger! I was excited about this at first, because I just love Lisa's writing style and how I blaze through her books, but there's too much drama going on and not nearly enough chemistry for me. Certain behavior is starting to bring out the bitch in me. :'(

Yes, with Andy! He does, doesn't he? Hahha..oh god. Derek leaves me cold, strangely enough. And the sex felt clinical after the helluvah long wait.

The characters are interesting but there's way too much setup in the first quarter of the book. They need to moce the story forward. But I am still interested.

Wonderful review, LK! So nicely done...
I really enjoyed Lisa Henry's novel but I think I will skip this one. This "puppy play" is probably to much for me. :))

Thanks! No, I can imagine it's not everyone's thing. It's not mine either. That being said, the actual puppy play scenes in this book are few, but they play a crucial role nonetheless.

Such bliss <3
I hope Lane's as cute as this little fur ball here:

IF he is anything like that whiny protagonist in Dark Space, I am going to be livid!
Edits: I had to remove the tags since there's image display error. Sucks!

Ahem...not to put a damper on your excitement, but Lane is a pathetic, whiny little baby. Whereas the MC from Dark Space was a great kid IMO.
I can't wait to see you livid though! mmmm! ;)
PS Oh noooo's...an image error!

And that's exactly why I want to see you review it, for my own selfish entertainment. :D
However, you may love Lane. You might find him sympathetic. He didn't annoy me but I did find him pitiful.

Ah you are being shellfish again.
I don't know about this one. I am feeling rather conflicted right now.

Lol!
Well, I'm sure Anna's working very hard on her review right now Kyn, so why don't you wait and see what she thinks about it before plunging in? I have to say, if you thought the MC in Dark Space was whiny, this guy here is not going to rub you the right way...:/
Anna, what do you say?
