This was the first book I have read by this author, and I was definitely impressed by her writing. I love a dark romance with a morally grey MMC. Although they make me beyond angry, I actually enjoy a good bully romance. On top of all of that, I love a sports romance, especially when we get a new sport to read, like swimming in this book. Also, having been a competitive swimmer, I felt an unfortunate connection to it ( I have some serious bad memories of my time as a swimmer). But that aside, I thought that this book did a good job of creating a dark bully romance that was entertaining and engaging. I thought that the characters were relatable and I was actually interested to see where their story went.

I think that I really loved Fallon as a FMC. I always appreciate a strong willed female main character that can stand up for herself against her bully. She doesn’t cave just because Remy is the all powerful king of the swim team. It’s always good to see a FMC that is able to have banter with someone that always gets what he wants. Her past has molded her into the strong willed female that she is instead of breaking her. I love a strong woman and that’s what Fallon is.

Remy. Oh Remy. I have known people like Remy. Someone who is used to getting what he wants. Would he have been so obsessed if Fallon was another to give him what he wants? Probably not. Like many morally grey MMCs, his obsession drives him and while I would never want to encounter him in my actual life, he has all of the wonderful characteristics that I look for in a dark romance/bully romance MMC.

Backstroke was the first in the series and I am interested to see what the rest of the series holds. I love a university romance, and this was one has some lovely spice for those looking for it. It was definitely a book worth reading and one that has caught my attention so that I will be sure to be back for the next book in the series.
