it was ok
bookshelves: adult, bisexual, contemporary, f-f-relationship, f-f-romance, lgbtqia

** spoiler alert ** Content warnings: alcohol, toxic parents, toxic exes, parental abandonment, several sex scenes, lying, manipulation, mentions of parent being injured, panic attacks.

Rep: Ramona (MC) is cis, white, and bisexual. Dylan (MC) is cis, white and bisexual. April (SC) is pansexual. Side queer characters, side POC characters.

As always, let's get this out of the way: This is NOT a lesbian book. There's no need for y'all to erase bisexuals by 'shelving' this as lesbian. They are bisexual. Change your tag/shelf.

Second: this review is not for the author. This is for other readers only. I am starting to state this on all reviews now.

Third, this is spoiler heavy. You have been warned. There will be spoiler cuts as well as the entire thing being hidden for spoilers.

Juniper L.H. Thank you for this review! This is somewhere in my TBR but I’m not sure how I feel about what you are describing. I absolutely agree about Make The Season Bright!!

It was hard to articulate to be honest. I still feel =/ about it all.

BJ It's interesting seeing your take here! I read it pretty differently... I didn't see Dylan as actually fake dating Ramona (their dates felt pretty real to me!), but rather as sort of gently lying-by-omission to both Ramona (about her management wanting them to date) and her management team (by letting them think she was going along with them when really she was doing what she wanted and it just happened to align.) I thought Ramona's lie was worse, because it wasn't by omission, it was just old-fashioned lying-to-your-face. (Apparel design?! Seriously?!) But I got why she did it and forgave them both. Anyway, I'm absolutely not trying to tell you you should have liked this or say there's anything wrong with your review (which is great!). I just think it's interesting how different our experiences of this book were!

Trust me, I know I'm in the minority here who thinks this.
But I'm not changing my mind on it.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, though.

Not trying to change any minds :) Your review just helped me work out my own reaction, I think!

Ally Idk, I don’t think Dylan was ever fake dating her tho. Her team wanted them to fake date, but Dylan wanted to ACTUALLY date so they did. None of that was fake dating to me.

Maybe the wording has changed from the ARC I read to the final version. I wouldn't know since I'm not rereading it. But the copy I read was very much Dylan hiding the fake dating from Ramona, and being very sketchy about it.

I know that in the ARC, April had a one night stand with this woman named Sasha, and was obsessed with her, but a friend who read the ARC, and also has read the finished version says that Sasha isn't even in it.
Just for point of reference that things could have changed and I wouldn't have a clue.

Whoa, that's a fascinating bit of info! That Sasha story really shaped April's character in the ARC. Learning about random bits of book intelligence like this is why I love this website!

Yeah, I had no idea that it was changed. Apparently April was engaged in the end? To someone completely different. And Sasha is the 3rd book's title character, so idk.
