I have thoughts…. For the entirety of this book I felt like I was fighting for my life to get to the end, and not in a good way. Honestly after reading this I think this series and I are going to be parting ways.
Lightlark was the strongest book in this series for me and each book afterwards got worse. Isla is one of the worst FMCs I’ve ever read. She is completely INSUFFERABLE! She cries every other page about anything and everything. Not to say that having feelings is bad it’s just so consistent and starts to grind on my nerves. Especially when immediately following a scene where she is crying about something so small, she then tries to act all hard and badass… I’m not buying it sis. She lacks conviction, is a poorly written character, is constantly self loathing, and makes Grim seem like her little minion who exists for the sole purpose of doing her bidding and constantly guilt trips him. Her powers piss me off the most. One minute she’s crying about how she’s evil and a villain and her abilities are too much that she needs to lock them away. Then the next she’s suddenly some badass magical warrior with barely any training. Make it make sense.
This book was one giant contradiction. One minute Isla is keeping secrets, lying, deceiving and then when she’s gets caught, Grim graciously accepts her without any judgement. But God forbid there’s one tiny secret kept from her and she acts as if the entire world is crumbling from feelings of betrayal. GIVE ME A BREAK! Also, how is she still so torn about who to choose?! Girl, let’s be so for real, there is no competition…. Grim is the obvious choice. He was the ONLY redeeming factor in this entire book.
This book was littered with typos and missing words. The plot became a bit of a stretch. It felt like so much happened yet nothing happened and everything just went off the rails. Essentially, it was overwritten.
