I don't know how I missed this book when it first came out because I have been a huge fan of Julie Johnson and have read most of her books. It wasn't until I saw this book mentioned in a group I'm in, I thought I don't think I've read that one, and boy have I missed out.
Julie Johnson delivers more than a love story with Like Gravity, this was also a book about loving yourself before you can love another. The emotions captured in this book were so on point it was unbelievable. At times I had floods of tears as Julie Johnson's descriptive prose really hits you in the heart and makes you empathise, sympathise and most of all fall in love with her characters effortlessly.
The growth in our heroine, Brooklyn, was second to none. From the time I met her on the page I was captivated with her story. Brooklyn was a heroine that was emotionally shut off, her impenetrable fortress that she had constructed was as bomb proof as they came and yet underneath that hardass exterior was a girl that just wanted to be loved, but was too afraid to even try. Brooklyn's strength was her biggest asset, she thought she was weak, but that was far from the truth and the lengths that Julie Johnson goes to, to enable this character to flourish was perfection.
Finn was one of the most patient hero's ever. Inherently kind, compassionate and giving, Finn was the perfect man for Brooklyn. He knew what she needed before she did, he could read her like a book and let her dictate the pace, because he knew if he didn't he would lose her. Finn was one of the most perfect book boyfriends, many women will read this book and want a Finn for themselves and I cannot blame them.
The banter was perfection, the chemistry on point and throw in a little suspense and intrigue and Julie Johnson certainly penned a winner. There is something for everyone in this book and the underlying back story is what really brought this book into it's own. Absolutely adored it.

“So, if you love him, I guess the only real question you have to ask yourself, the only question that matters is, at the end of the day, is he worth the suffering?”

“I was tired, so tired, of fighting my shadow every minute of the day. My grief had become a living entity, personified by years of self-blame and incarnated by my refusal to confront it.”

“Real life isn’t like the stories, Brooklyn...There aren’t any white knights or glass slippers or second chances...People don’t wake up after eating poisoned apples. They don’t live again after an evil witch curses them. They just die.”

“I know how fucked up we are. With you, it’s one step forward, and three monumental fucking leaps back. But I also know that you can be incredibly sweet when you aren’t too busy slapping me, or glaring at me, or hating my guts.”
