A beautifully sad and uplifting story....

Making Faces is the most beautiful story of love and friendship and realising that, even through tragedy and imperfection, life can be wonderful. Life is worth living. Always It's a coming of age story and one I will pass down to my own children so they can share in this wonderful reading experience.
As the story unfolds the reader goes through sweet unrequited love, friendship, devastation, hope and love everlasting. This story is both gut wrenching and uplifting, it’s a stunning combination and makes you think so hard about all manner of things.

Making faces has various characters with individual personalities that shine through the writing. And of course, the light shone most brightly on Bailey, Fern and Ambrose, the main, wonderful characters.
Ambrose showed me his loyalty, his honour and his protective caring nature. He excels at wrestling but the expectation of what he could achieve is almost too much for him, he has another career path in mind.... He wants to make a difference and decides the best way to do this is join the army, so that's what he, and a group of his friends, proceed to do. I felt a mixture of admiration and fear. You just sense they'll not all make it home, and those that do will be forever changed.
Fern “…quietly lovely, unassumingly pretty…” She grew up believing she was NOT pretty... (UGS) Ugly-Girl Syndrome. Ignored when she was younger for being plain, boring and unattractive. The story is now quite different, the awkward young girl became a beautiful young woman, both inside and out. She’s honest, caring, genuine, and loyal, and loves to write. Anyone would be lucky to have her as a friend.
Bailey, Fern's cousin, and an insightful character inclusion from the author. His story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. He’s pivotal to the meaning, feel and emotion of the story. Life and death and silver linings, focusing on them is key to peace of mind, surviving and happiness. “...be grateful for everyday.” My heart ached for Rita and Bailey…..

Making Faces eloquently shows us so much in the soulful writing…… Terrible things happen to many people, it’s the way we deal with them that makes a difference, can be the mark of strength, and has a direct bearing on a person’s happiness. Everyone experiences problems, things they have to live through and deal with, how bad they are is relative to our own individuality and circumstance….
I smiled and I cried and I adored this wonderful story.
It gloriously demonstrates the human heart, its frailties and capacity to love. It shows us love in all its forms. It explores beauty, the beauty within a person’s heart and soul. This book is one of the reasons I love to read. It’s overflowing with heart bursting moments and right at the top, for me, is the love story that slowly develops between Ambrose and Fern. Making Faces is ultimately their story.

The most beautifully, perfect, sad first kiss ever. Their story gave me a strong dose of the emotional feels. I was rooting for their happy ever after.
Making Faces has a powerful intensity swirled with emotion. It has a sense of foreboding, whilst at the same time is inspiring, uplifting and life affirming. It raises the deepest questions of life. It’s not preachy, it doesn’t give answers for those questions, when there are none. So very deep and so very touching.
I'd recommend this to everyone. If you're one of the few who are yet to read this book, wait no longer, experience the beauty within.
A gorgeous trailer....
