5 "Doctor Ben makes me melt" Stars!!
Grab your tissue ladies because this story will suck you in from the first page to the last. I am pretty sure I was in tears for the first six chapters. Kayley Carson has to be one of the strongest women I have ever read about. Just when my eyes would start to dry again Kayley would flash back to her life with Alex and the waterworks started all over again. I could not imagine going through the loss of my husband while pregnant, the loss alone would devastate me but knowing that he would never meet his child is heartbreaking. Kayley has a great support system in her family, Alex’s family, but most of all her two best friends, Emily & Rachel they are the true definition of what best friends should be.
A year later Kayley is still living life in a haze. While living day to day without Alex and taking care of little Alexis. Then on Alexis' first birthday, I really lost it. I moved from my half used box of tissue to the toilet paper roll. It was at that moment, my husband walked into the room and found me surrounded by tissue, eyes full of tears and a nose full of snot. To ask me for a backrub, Really?!? Does he not see me crying my eyes out because Kayley has more to deal with?
So, as I am drying my tears and my husband is sulking....we meet Doctor Ben. Oh, sweet and swoon-worthy Ben. Ben is drawn to Kayley, he convinces her (with the help of Emily & Rachel) to take a chance on him – on them as a couple.
This story would not have been complete without little Alexis. She makes this story that much more. When she talks your heart melts, especially when she says calls Ben “Daddy” or when she talks about how much he “wuvs” her and her mommy.
Kayley is not the only one with a past she has to work through. Doctor Ben has also been through the ringer and has his own insecurities. The ups and downs Kayley and Ben go through make you wonder if they can make it as a couple – as a family. Then again…how can you not put forth everything you have especially with a man like Ben who buys all of your jewelry at Tiffany’s?
I absolutely loved this story. L.L. Collins did an amazing job of keeping you right in the middle of the story. Sometimes, the swoon-worthy men that seem too good to be true and almost insta-love books are over the top but not this one. You are sucked in from the start and you stay there until the end. Not to mention the Epilogue was perfect!
