Kayley Carson thought she had it all...married to the love of her life, a great job, and a baby on the way. Then one day, her life changes forever when she loses her husband in a tragic accident. No longer sure how to navigate life after her enormous loss, Kayley clings to her newborn baby, her family, and her friends to keep herself living.

She's not the only one with a painful past. He is struggling with trust issues after a previous relationship went horribly wrong. After a terrible misunderstanding brings out both of their insecurities, will the painful memories of the past keep them both from living again?

This is really my kind of story - I'm a sucker for a tear jerker, but also just a good love story with characters who are older and somewhat established, or better yet mature. The beginning of this story is very sad and just heartbreaking! It's raw and Kayley's pain is felt deep as she is dealing with the death of her husband Alex, while also being pregnant with their first child. Kayley is surrounded by her family, Alex' family and her best friend Emily who are such a support system for her during her grieving. I also want to mention that there is nothing like a true best friend and Emily is great.
A year after her daughter Alexis is born she deals with another scare, which is when she meets Ben a/k/a Dr. Yummy. Ben has an attraction to Kayley, but is unaware of the devastation she has been through for the past year. Kayley is in no way ready for a relationship and somewhat feels that she would be betraying Alex.
"I understand you're scared. You lost a lot. You thought you were with the man you were going to stay with forever and he's gone. I get that. But please, baby. Please. Give me a chance to show you he wasn't the only one that can love you."
I have a serious crush on Ben at the moment…serious! He is kind, understanding and such a caring man. He has an attraction and feels a connection to Kayley, but knows he has to be gentle of her feelings and her situation. Not only does he adore Kayley, but he equally adores her daughter Alexis! The interactions between Ben and Alexis are so freaking cute and that alone will melt you heart. Every time he called Alexis "princess" he moved up a notch on my BBF list. There is nothing sexier than a man who loves a child.
"I love you Kayley Lynn Carson. I am desperately and hopelessly in love with you . And Alexis."
This is a great story of overcoming loss and it's laid out with such emotion and detail. Everything is convincing.
Breathtakingly raw in its honesty. This isn't your Grandmother's Harlequin Romance. This is the other side of those heart wrenching tragic news stories, where you hear of families torn apart. These are the awful steps after the funeral, those moments no one ever witnesses of those left behind. Disbelief, Anger, Grief and Resolution to rebuild the next chapter of their story. The future without the one buried in a coffin. The survivor's struggle through their own ''living death'' to rebirth of their new life. I didn't cry, I didn't whimper, I was in shock...there were moments of uncomfortable disbelief and acknowledgement that this is life in its truest form. There is no pattern for recovery and no guarantee you will ever be the same as before that moment your fairy tale ended. It is an honest portrayal of discovery into the rejuvenation of human spirit to persevere. L.L. Collins spun a tale reaffirming that through tragedy there is rebirth and in every human there is an unquenchable spirit to live.
After being dealt a horrible hand with the death of her husband, Kayley's journey to loving again is filled with heart-felt emotion and proof that there can always be a second chance at happiness as long as you open yourself up to it.
With this being just the author's debut novel, I've got high hopes for her next works!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! It grabs you right from the very fist page and doesn't let go! The emotions are so real, so raw and you feel like you are a part of the story! I lost count on how many times I cried while reading this book! You will go through a gamut of emotions from sorrow, to elation and everything in between! Can not wait for more!
Wrecked...every emotion has been felt. *sigh* Review to come with my tour post on 11/4.
**FULL REVIEW**
Title provided by the author in exchange for my honest review.
Normally I would quote throughout my review with parts of the book, but for some reason I just can’t do that with this one. This book is so emotional, the quotes aren’t needed. I am going to do my very best to convey what I felt about it…not just what I thought. Thoughts aren’t enough, this is a book that pulls on every emotion, and every feeling there is to be had.
First, Kayley Lynn Carson is probably the strongest woman ever. Facing tragedy at such young age, something so devastating it’s amazing that she could carry on. I cried so hard as I read the first part of this book, knowing that if it were me…I just can’t. Wow. Putting myself in Kayley’s shoes brought so many gut-wrenching emotions out of me. I don’t know how anyone deals with the pain of loss, or continues to live knowing that part of that person depends on them; stares them in the face daily. A constant reminder of what was lost, ugh, my heart. Shattered.
And then for a year afterward, having an everyday underlying fear of the what-ifs. No. Just no. It’s too hard. As you can see, I struggled with this book. I struggled because the thought of having to function, to remain strong, to continue to move forward when everything I’ve known has been ripped away from me and then the ghosts of that life haunt me daily. His pillow, shoes, clothes in the closet, his toothbrush, the pictures on the walls…my child’s face. Even now, I am sobbing as I write this review; this book just felt that real.
I will say this, it’s not all tragic and sad. No, that is just the beginning; that part that jolts your very core. It evolves from there. The timeline of the story flows beautifully as does the relationship forged, and sealed. This book is all about the journey. The journey to find peace, love, and the happiness every person deserves. It’s about family and friends. It’s about putting the pieces back together when your entire world falls apart. It was phenomenal.
I can’t really express any more of how this book affected me. Reading about life and death of your soul mate, watching your child(ren) grow, falling in love with another and the guilt felt because there are just so many unanswered questions in a sudden death of a loved one; the main one being: is this really okay? Is it? I mean, how can one truly explain matters of the heart to your head? Constant turmoil, which is the best way to describe Kayley. Not knowing if moving forward can happen because she can’t possibly believe that true love can happen more than once…but Ben Nichols. He is convinced that the reason it never worked with anyone else is because Kayley was meant to be his forever.
See what I did there? I just jumped right back into my feelings about this book and then out again to explain a relationship that really can only be described as fate. Alex was Kayley’s first love, her best friend, her everything. When the life they shared is shattered and she is forced to pick up the pieces, meeting someone new and having a life of love and happiness is the furthest from her mind. Meeting Ben and his persistence (along with some really great friends) turn Kayley’s life from one of just motions, to actually living again. It really did feel like Ben was a gift, a gift from heaven.
Everything about Living Again blew me away. Right from the start it was emotional and full of heartbreaking moments. Kayley is suddenly faced with the reality that her life will never be the same. A life is cut entirely too short after a drunk driving accident. With her whole world turned upside down, Kayley is living her darkest days alone and pregnant. Not only is she about to become a first time mom, but she is doing so without her husband and best friend.
After a ton of soul searching, Kayley begins to see the beauty of the direction her life has taken her thanks to a very special Dr. Yummy who sets her world back on its axis. With emotional flashbacks causing her to doubt her feelings, Kayley’s friends help set her up with the very man who would help pull her from darkness to light. Thankfully, Ben is determined to get the girl no matter what kind of fight he has to put up.
While I have only given a brief look into what goes on in this story, I can and will tell you it is worth every tear you shed, every smile you make and every bit your heart melts. Soul mates are a once in a lifetime find. If you are lucky enough to find yours after tragedy, you are capable of making it through anything. Kayley and Ben are tested several times in ways that will frustrate you, excite you and just plain piss you off. I read to 48% and chucked my Kindle across the couch refusing to believe what I felt was about to happen. I hopped on Goodreads and sent the author a message telling her what she was doing to me. Ask her, it’s totally true! That is how worked up the angst filled moments got me. I was 100% invested in all things Kayley and Ben.
Wait until you meet little Alexis. Never has a child affected me as much as this little princess did. The writing for children is usually sporadic and never really plot filled information. That is not the case for this little one. I looked forward to the moments she was in the story and loved her sweet heart. The moment I heard Daddy Ben, I lost it. I cried more tears about her than probably anyone else. Her moments with her daddy were beyond special and memorable. This book focuses on the family and not just a couple.
Living Again reminded me how important it is to treasure every moment you have. No matter what the next day will provide, you owe it to yourself to stay grounded. Things are just things and nothing can give you as much fulfillment as loving another person. I am so impressed this is L.L. Collins first published book and can’t wait for more!
Every book I’ve been reading lately has torn my heart out but I am not complaining cause they have been written beautifully but I’m still recovering. This book is easily 5 stars of amazing love!! I love this story because I relate to it in so many ways!! I lost my fiancé and had three boys to raise alone and there were days when I did want to give up!! L.L Collins captured the pain of loss beautifully she makes you feel and understand what someone who has lost something goes through. Every feeling Kayley felt I felt and more. This book is about Kayley a beautiful women who had a perfect marriage when tragedy strikes and she loses the love of her life and all she can do is try to stay strong for her unborn child she carries. Kayley is having a hard time moving on and realizing she deserves to be happy. When fate brings Ben into her life can two damaged people find peace with each other? This book kept me reading I cried and lost it a few times but this is one of my favorite reads of the year you do not want to miss out on such a perfect book ;) ~Raquel
This book was an emotional journey for not just the characters, but for myself. Wow. I felt so much pain for poor Kayley and the tears she shed were matching my own, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. She loses her husband in a horrible accident and you feel like you just lost him too. How does she live again after what she just went through? LL Collins does a great job of this as you find yourself learning to "live again" just as Kayley does. My heart fluttered when she met someone who was trying to change her thoughts on never loving again. He completely made me believe it was possible again for Kayley to love him, to trust him, to let him love her. He stole my heart instantly. Then boom, your heart is hit again and you cry, yell, scream, want to throw your kindle etc. The journey of these two characters was so touching, loving, and down right heart breaking. I just couldn't stop reading. I turned the page faster each time because I just "had to know how it ends". Do yourself a favor and get some tissues and this book. Read it, love it and let it take you for a ride of all the emotions LL Collins put into this book! You won't regret it.
This book may have ruined me for all of the short, insta-love, quick reads out there!!! LL Collins writes an in depth novel dealing with loss, grief, love, heartache, joy, friendship, family.... basically life. And does it in a way that is like floating down a lazy river, giving the reader time to feel and experience the passage of time along with the characters. The length of the book gives the author the opportunity to develop the characters; it allows you to care about them, hurt with them, long for them, cheer for them. Do not expect to read this in one sitting; it is a long book, full of detail and covers several years. There is some relationship angst (a major misunderstanding, but no cheating) and the way it is handled is so real. Most of the book though, is just about 2 people finding love and living life along the way. Buy this book, sit back and take some time to savor it.
Grab your tissue ladies because this story will suck you in from the first page to the last. I am pretty sure I was in tears for the first six chapters. Kayley Carson has to be one of the strongest women I have ever read about. Just when my eyes would start to dry again Kayley would flash back to her life with Alex and the waterworks started all over again. I could not imagine going through the loss of my husband while pregnant, the loss alone would devastate me but knowing that he would never meet his child is heartbreaking. Kayley has a great support system in her family, Alex’s family, but most of all her two best friends, Emily & Rachel they are the true definition of what best friends should be.
A year later Kayley is still living life in a haze. While living day to day without Alex and taking care of little Alexis. Then on Alexis' first birthday, I really lost it. I moved from my half used box of tissue to the toilet paper roll. It was at that moment, my husband walked into the room and found me surrounded by tissue, eyes full of tears and a nose full of snot. To ask me for a backrub, Really?!? Does he not see me crying my eyes out because Kayley has more to deal with?
So, as I am drying my tears and my husband is sulking....we meet Doctor Ben. Oh, sweet and swoon-worthy Ben. Ben is drawn to Kayley, he convinces her (with the help of Emily & Rachel) to take a chance on him – on them as a couple.
This story would not have been complete without little Alexis. She makes this story that much more. When she talks your heart melts, especially when she says calls Ben “Daddy” or when she talks about how much he “wuvs” her and her mommy.
Kayley is not the only one with a past she has to work through. Doctor Ben has also been through the ringer and has his own insecurities. The ups and downs Kayley and Ben go through make you wonder if they can make it as a couple – as a family. Then again…how can you not put forth everything you have especially with a man like Ben who buys all of your jewelry at Tiffany’s?
I absolutely loved this story. L.L. Collins did an amazing job of keeping you right in the middle of the story. Sometimes, the swoon-worthy men that seem too good to be true and almost insta-love books are over the top but not this one. You are sucked in from the start and you stay there until the end. Not to mention the Epilogue was perfect!
Incredible, beautiful, amazing, heart filling....those are just a few adjectives that I can think of to describe this book. This was one of the best books that I have ever read.(and I have read a lot) The author described the characters in such detail that I felt as if I was there in the book with them. Kayley married her best friend, Alex, only for him to die a few years later. Kayley was devastated and was left expecting a child that Alex would never get to meet. Kayley's family and friends were a rock for her. I felt every emotion that Kayley did. You will need tissues when reading. I also suggest to not read this in public. You never know when something is going to happen in this book that will leave you breathless or leave your face streaked with tears. After declaring that love would not be in her future, Kayley meets Ben. Ben is an ER pediatrician. He falls for Kayley at once. He has to work hard to win her love. All I can say is that I WANT A BEN!!!!! Holy cow, could the author have made him any more perfect??? I know that he messes up during the book, but that's life. He is so romantic. The things that he does for Kayley and her daughter are swoon worthy. No guy ever stands a chance to beat his gestures. Sigh..... This book will take you on a journey filled with heartbreak, love, smiles, laughter, and friendship. I enjoyed how the author let us have a point of view from all characters. That was a stroke of genius. The playlist that goes with the book is phenomenal. I know the book was long, but I feel that the length was necessary to give us the remarkable story. The details made you love the book even more. Nothing was left unturned...well unless it was the identity of Rachel's love interest. I loved how Alex's family all rallied around Kayley and Ben. I can't imagine how hard it would be to lose a son and then have to watch another man be called Daddy. I also loved how Ben handled Kayley's memories and love for her husband. I know that I'm leaving things out about the book. I suggest that you read this.
Wow, this book had me bawling my eyes out! We meet Kayley, pregnant with her first child and married to her college sweetheart, Alex. Alex is late coming home from work one night, but we learn that he was in a horrible car accident and did not survive. Kay, expecting their first child in a month was absolutely devastated! Learning to deal with the loss of her husband and raising a newborn baby is a challenge. After a year Kay is finally starting to get back to some sense of normalcy! Until her precious baby Alexis has a seizure on her first birthday. While tending to her in the ER, Kay meets Dr. Nichols. If her best friend Emily had not pointed out Dr. Yummy, she would have never noticed him. Ben felt like fate had finally stepped in and gave him an angel! Determined as ever to win her attention he pursues her. Of course with all she has been through he wants to take as slow as she wants to. I LOVED this story, Ben is every man every woman is looking for. Does he have a brother??? I can't wait to read about Rachael!
The story is beautifully written. It grabs you from the first page. Your emotions will take a Roller-coaster ride throughout the whole book. Kayley is broken. Battered she just can't take anything else. Ben is relentless handsome and completely head over heels for Kayley I will not give spoilers but I will say this. I found myself with tears leaking from my eyes and a vise around my heart more than once. Life is unfair. Tomorrow is not promised. We have No Guarantees. Sometimes if we are lucky fate will smile on us and give us a second chance. You better recognize it and grab it while you got it. Read the story. It is worth every turned page.
This book can be summed up in one word for me-AMAZING! Everything about it was AMAZING! It was such an emotional read, I lost count of how many times I had tears falling from my eyes. It was so beautiful. One of the many things that I loved about this book was it had a playlist. LOVE books with playlists!! The songs really showed the emotions that each character portrayed through the book. This author really pulled at my heartstrings with this novel!
Kayley and Alex were absolute perfection. Perfect marriage, perfect life, perfect love. Kayley worshiped Alex-Alex worshiped Kayley. They had it all. To top everything off, they had a baby on the way to make their family complete. Unfortunately, tragedy struck and Kayley was left to raise their baby alone. She was devastated. She had lost her whole world, the man she loved, her husband. She told herself that she would never love again. She thought she couldn't. She believed that she was just a shell of herself just barely getting by day by day.
A month later, Kayley gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Alexis. Still, she felt empty. She was supposed to spend this day with Alex, and other than her family and friends, she was alone. She had to raise this beautiful baby girl by herself. She would have to be the mom and the dad. Fast forward a year, Alexis' first birthday, a year after Alex passed away, he was still hurting, but it was getting a little better. Another unexpected event happens and we meet Dr. Ben Nichols. Emily, Kayley's loving and hilarious best friend, is smitten by him. And she tries to tell Kayley that it's time to move on. But Kayley isn't ready. Ben feels a connection with Kayley that he has never felt before. He has to get to know this woman. And he wasn't taking no for an answer.
There are NO words to describe Ben. He is an amazing soul. He made me laugh, cry and he made me fall head over heels for him. He showed Kayley that there was so much more to her life. I don't want to give anymore of this amazing book away, so I'm going to stop there. Just know, this author is awesome. She made me feel like I was there, witnessing everything that was happening. I recommend this book to everyone. It is a 100% love story. Just make sure you have PLENTY of tissues handy, you will for sure need them! Thank you L.L. Collins for this wonderful book! Definitely a 5++ star read.
I came across this book and jumped at the chance to read it due to all the amazing reviews and recommendations from fellow bloggers. I do not consider myself an emotional person and I am not one to cry but after buying it and hearing how some people responded to it I prepared myself with a box of tissues just in case.
Living Again was OMG such an emotional rollercoaster and though I did get teary eyed there were no waterworks. What can I say, I’m weird that way! ;)
So here’s a bit about the characters…
Kayley Carson’s life was nothing but perfect. Supportive family, cute home, a job she loves, amazing husband and a baby on the way. Who could ask for more? Now this isn’t giving anything away because as it says in the synopsis “Then one day, her life changes forever when she loses her husband in a tragic accident.” <-- This was a tough part to read. WOW the way Collins wrote the devastation Kayley was feeling was that of perfection! I really did feel like I was the one going through the loss. To think that her unborn child will never meet his/her wonderful father was heart shattering! After the accident she goes through the motions of life the best she can but she doesn’t really live. All she can do is try her best to raise little Alexis the best way she can.
Her life once again is about to change, but will she be receptive to these changes and “Live Again?”
On Alexis’ first birthday Kayley finds herself rushing to the same hospital where her husband passed. She and her entire family were scared out of her minds because Alexis has had a seizure. This scene was intense, I was getting palpitations! The fear that Kayley feels jumps off the pages. But Lex turns out to be fine and is kept overnight just for observation.
Then we meet Dr. Ben Nichols… because while in the ER Kaylee never really noticed him she was that freaked out. But once they meet eyes there is no way to deny the instant connection. And the love story beings!!
Living Again was such an amazing story. When you think you’ve met your soul mate and he’s ripped from your life unexpectedly one can’t help to think life is over. But then again there are no guarantee’s in life. As in real life there are so many ups and downs. There are tears of heartache and tears of joy. There are moments of doubt and moments of certainty.
This is where I stop with the details. In my opinion this is a must read love story and if I keep writing I’m going to give it all away! L.L. Collins congratulations on such an amazing debut novel!! I cannot wait to see what comes next!
Living Again is a story of great loss, love and redemption. It's a story about Kayley, a pregnant widow who lost the love of her life due to an unfortunate circumstance and Ben who is a romantic, perfect doctor who has insecurities about himself because of his cheating ex-fiancee.
I gave it a 3-3.5 rating because it is little long for me and there were scenes that I could have live without. I'm not sure if the author just wants to lengthen her book more or if they have any significance in the story. I kept on waiting for a climatic scene to happen about 70% in the book but it just so happen that there was none and they've been living their HEA all throughout the book already. Don't get me wrong there was one minor blip in their relationship in about 55%+ of the book I think but that's it.
Also I can't get over how PERFECT and so UNREAL Ben's character is! I've been saying "Are you for real?" all throughout the book!
He's just so so so so perfect and romantic and I just don't know how to describe him! But to quote Kayley "God himself must live inside that man." It just seems to me that his character can't do no wrong.
Living Again is a wonderful debut novel. I was quickly drawn into the story and my emotions were immediately involved. This is a wonderfully sexy, romantic novel about overcoming traumatic events and taking a chance on love. I found myself neglecting my duties because I simply had to find out how this story ended. Once I started the book, I was unable to stop reading. Kayley is a wonderful female lead who you can immediately feel for and relate to. My heart broke for her, but I was impressed with her inner strength in overcoming the things that would tear most people down. Dr. Ben is swoonworthy. In a word, he's HOT. He's a strong, successful man who becomes completely ensnared with a lovely woman. Em and Cam are great supporting characters and the kind of friends that everyone wishes they had. All of the characters are well developed and the story really flowed for me. Living Again is a realistic journey of loss, heartbreak, rediscovery, love, and redemption. I cannot wait for more from L.L. Collins. This author is going places. 5 solid stars.
Oh my goodness! I loved this book. Warning it will make you cry though ;) It truly is a phenomenal book. I have already read it three times! Yeah I'm slightly addicted to L.L Collins book! I can't wait till her next book comes out because if it is anything like Living Again I know I will love it. L.L Collins captivates you right from the beginning and I can tell you right now that I have been sharing this book like crazy with all my friends!
I have never read a book that has made me cry in the first few chapters. This book was so touching and me feel so bad for what Kayley went through. Get a box of tissues before you start reading this book. A great book!!!!! Must read. Great Job 'LL!!! I can't wait to read more of your wonderful writing.
**I was given this book as a ARC for an honest review**
I just finished this book, and all I have to say is OH WOW! I CRIED, I laughed, This book gave me so many feelings !!
So that being said I give it 5 heart wrenching stars!!!
There is not much to say without giving spoilers away, but I will do my best. This book had me captivated from page one! I would have to say this book is different then any book I have ever read, the author sucked me right into Kayley's life and I never left, I think I still might be there.
Kayley loses her perfect life when her husband Alex dies in a tragic accident right before their child is born. She has to learn to live without this man, and raise a child, and be a Mom and learn to be strong right when she doesn't feel like there is anything to be strong for. She has a great support system, Mom and Dad, in-laws, and best friends, but her heart is still broken and feels like it will never mend or be right again. She has given up on love, and happily ever afters, I feel Kayley just exists, even with a beautiful baby she is just half of the person she could be because of all she has lost.
Ben "Dr Yummy" meets Kayley when she has nothing left to give, BUT he is willing to help Kayley bring out in her what she thought was long gone. And he is willing to accept her as she is. Damaged and all. Together she learns to put back together her life. She learns to love again. And anyone who has lost someone that they love, knows how hard that is to do. And this book shows her ups and downs, her sadness and her happiness.
Ben is damaged too, he may not have lost someone so tragically, but he has lost none the less. He has trust issues, and although he has let Kayley in a big misunderstanding happens and he has to chose whether he can trust again, or if he is going to put up walls and shut Kayley out.
I think my favorite part about this book was not Kayley and Ben, and that is saying a lot because I LOVE them.. It was Ben and Alexis~ Kayley's daughter. The way he interacted with her and the things he did with her and for her, just tore my heart out and it was just beautiful. I wish all men could be this way with children. I cannot say enough about this, it was just perfection to me.
This is a heart wrenching story, it brought out all these feelings in me and half way through the book, I just sat there and cried. I got it together and kept reading, but it was an emotional roller coaster that kept me wanting more! OH there is so much I want to tell you and I can't !!
YOU must read this!!! It is not a book to pass by. I cannot wait to read more from L.L. Collins she is an amazing writer, so much talent.
This book is about first love, tragedy, heart break, love, second chances, family, best friends, trust, and life.
I'm not a 100% sure where to start!! Oh, yes I do. Tissues... Make sure you have them because you're going to need them from page 1 all the way to the last page.
We start off with the beautiful Kayley Carson who's pregnant with her 1st child. She doesn't know she's having because her and her husband didn't want to know. They wanted to be surprised. And, they were so beyond thrilled to be having their 1st child. If only it were that easy.
Kayley's world went from being fantastic to everything crumbling down around her. She got the phone call that nobody wants. Her husband Alex was involved in a terrible car accident. After she rushed to the hospital she was told shortly after her husband had passed away.
While she's at the funeral she's a wreck. She can't imagine how she is suppose to love without Alex. Kasey is devastated that her unborn child will never get to meet Alex. She makes a vow to life, breathe her unborn child. And, that includes swearing off love!! Kayley gave a eulogy at Alex's funeral that had me crying hysterical!!!
Shortly after she gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl. Who she called Alexis Kayley Carson. Who she called Lexi for short. The next year was a complete fog for Kayley. Looking at Lexi was like looking at Alex. Kayley cried constantly. Her parents and best friends Emily & Rachel were her rocks. She relied on them for everything. Kayley really, really did have a EXCELLENT support team.
On the year of Alex's death, Kayley decided it was time.... Time to move forward. Kayley & Alexis along with all of her and Alex's family anf friends went to the beach with Alex's ashes and set him free. Kayley also took her wedding & engagement ring off.
On Alexis's 1st birthday, Kayley had the 2nd worst day in her life. Alexis got sick and had to be rushed to the ER. That's when she meets Dr. Ben Nichols. Emily names him Dr. Yummy & that sticks thru the whole story. LOL.. BOTH Ben & Kayley feel an instant connection. But, Kayley is still very much raw. And Ben... Ben's been burned and been burned bad. But, when he looks at Kayley & Alexis none of that matters. When he looks at them he sees home. He feels complete.
After struggling back & forth with feeling guilty. Along with her best friend Emily Kayley decides to jump in. Now I won't go much further simply because this book was long and had a lot in it. It had a lot of ups & downs. Some of the downs you'll scream at your book hoping they'll hear you. I know because I did it a bunch of times. I was literally in love with little Alexis!! Every time I read what she did & said I'd smile. People thought I was crazy because one minute I'm smiling. The next I'm crying.
This is L.L. Collins debut novel. And, I'm honored to be able to read it 1st. It was such a great story, with characters that I really connected with. I gave it 4 stars because I felt some of it was repetitive & a little dragged out. But, other then that EXCELLENT !!! I'm waiting for her next book!!!
"I love you. I miss you with every fiber of my body. I want you to be here right now, with me, as I'm about to meet our baby. You were my soul mate. How am I supposed to do this without you? I miss you so much. How did this happen to us? We were so happy... so happy..."
"I understand you're scared. You lost a lot. You thought you were with the one man you were going to stay with forever and he's gone. I get that. But please, baby. Please. Give me a chance to show you he wasn't the only one that can love you."
"I want to make love to you, Kayley. For me, doing this with you isn't about sex. I want to show you that I love you. So please, don't doubt that this is very real for me, too. I love you, and I'm going to give myself to you, if you will have me."
Wow. This is one of those books that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading it. It has a blend of emotions throughout and pulls you in from the very first page. This book is a tearjerker and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it as I don’t usually read books of this type, but boy, am I glad I did. Were introduced into Kayley’s life after the loss of her husband, who is realising her life will never be the same. Heavily pregnant at the time, she has to come to grips with the fact that she will now be a single parent and her child will never know their father.
“You need to understand something about me. I’m damaged. I’ve been totally annihilated this past year by what happened to me”
We follow the story of Kayley’s future after this event, as she begins to rebuild her life and start a future on her own. While emotional flashbacks are set to hinder her feelings as she moves on, a chance meeting with Dr. Ben (Dr. Yummy) has her wondering if there could be more for her. While she forever doubts herself and feeling of betraying her husband cause Ben and Kayley’s friend to intervene and try and set her up with him and Ben is determined to win her heart. Ben aims to make Kayley feel alive again, even though he wasn’t looking for love, something about the single mother draws him in. Burned by past relationships, he himself has to deal with his own issues while
"I understand you're scared. You lost a lot. You thought you were with the man you were going to stay with forever and he's gone. I get that. But please, baby. Please. Give me a chance to show you he wasn't the only one that can love you."
The character development and introductions in the story are flawless and you grow to love and support each and every one of them. Although the story focuses on Kayley and Ben’s story, I found that Alexis, Kayley’s baby was the one that made the story. Her innocence, love for everyone and sweet heart was a great addition to the overall feel for the story. She held a very high influence on the story and my heart just melted when she said ‘Daddy Ben’ for the first time. The relationship between her and Ben were beautiful and I loved how L.L Collins chose to focus on the family feel of the book and not just the two leads.
“It was like Ben was dropped down from Heaven just for you, from Alex himself.”
While essentially a tear jerker, this story evokes so many different emotions and at times was so frustrating that I just wanted to bang their heads together! Overall, it was a perfect story that even though showcased tremendous loss, it showed that although the journey of forgiveness and love may be a bumpy one, it is there for us all to find. L.L Collins shows us how essential it is to treasure every moment with the people you love. An amazing story that will stay with me a long time.

***Review From Amy Conley For The Nerd Girl Page*** Kayley Carson thought she had it all...married to the love of her life, a great job, and a baby on the way. Then one day, her life changes forever when she loses her husband in a tragic accident. No longer sure how to navigate life after her enormous loss, Kayley clings to her newborn baby, her family, and her friends to keep herself living.
When she meets someone that challenges her belief that she's better off alone, she has to decide if she is capable of letting him in after swearing she was never going to love anyone the same way again.
She's not the only one with a painful past. He is struggling with trust issues after a previous relationship went horribly wrong. After a terrible misunderstanding brings out both of their insecurities, will the painful memories of the past keep them both from living again?
My Review: I had so much fun reading this book and enjoyed it so much I completely lost myself within it! There are certain scenes that are my favorite and will stick with me forever! While it did have it's more serious sides.. times in which Kayley and Ben had to deal with heartbreak and loss on both sides it also had it's funny and entertaining moments! I only wish I had a good man like Ben who doted and loved his family with every fiber of his being and a best friend like Emily who is there for you through thick and then/good and bad with non-stop moments of laughter! These characters were so much fun to read and enjoy! Reading this book was such an emotional roller coaster because at times I'd find myself crying, my heart literally breaking into pieces at what the character's were going through.. then feeling amazed at the strength they carried to get them past what they've lived through and starting over.. it really makes you think could I go through something like that and have the strength to get through it like Kayley did??? and lastly all the moments that had me laughing uncontrollably I was trying to read through the tears!! The author did a good job mixing things up and letting the scenes flow into themselves the only thing I would comment on is that there were a few times where I felt the character's were becoming a little repetitive and it felt like they were saying things over and over that had already previously been said and done. Otherwise I felt like this book has great structure, flawless timing, easy flowing scenes, and one amazing, gripping, emotional story that you won't soon forget and will be recommending to all your book loving friends! I hope everyone enjoys this book just as much as I have!

L. L. Collins knows how to pluck at one’s heartstrings in double-time! For the first few chapters of Living Again I almost needed to resort to paper towels as I ran out of Kleenex! Talk about a living nightmare, brutal and heartbreakingly horrific, Kayley was married to her best friend, the love of her life and they were having a baby, her life was perfect and it was all shattered in an instant. She became a young widow with a baby who would never know her father and she was lost in a world of despair and loneliness, with a gaping hole in her will to move on. If not for her baby, she would have nothing left to live for.
Just as she was ready to try to move on alone, her young daughter is hospitalized after having a seizure on her first birthday. And then HE walked in, and Kayley felt something, attraction, gratitude, something more? Could it be time to move on with life, to actually live again?
Living Again is a novel about life, rising from the depths of despair and opening one’s heart to the future, to love, to passion and to living again, told with feeling and heart, L. L. Collins will draw you in and hold you tight until that very last page.
I received a review copy of Living Again as part of L. L. Collins' Living Again Book Tour & Giveaway stopping at Tome Tender October 7, 2013

I tried the sample and I didn't even finish the first chapter before I started skimming and these are the reasons why:
- The Flashbacks: Which I typically don't mind, it didn't flow or support the story. I.e., when she first met her hubby and how everyone knew they were going to be together, it didn't support the heroines excuse for not walking to talk about him at the funeral to his closest family and friends. It just didn't mesh with the flashback from a few paragraphs prior.
- The Telling: The author is telling us more than showing and so it was hard to want to read about the character. It's always tricky setting up with in the first chapter but I feel there was a better way to construct this story in order to grab the reader. I feel nothing and I don't care if she finds a way to live life again nor how her hubby passed away.
What I did like: The story starts unconventionally and there is great potential to tell this story, perhaps weaving it in with the new so the repetitive flashbacks may be tolerable.
But sadly, it didn't grab me enough to even borrow it for free as an Amazon prime member.
First, let me say that I would have never guessed this was LL Collins debut novel. It was brilliantly written and I could not put it down.
I am more than familiar with the lose of a loved one and the stages of moving on. So, this book hit a little close to home for me. It takes a superbly strong woman to move on from such a tragedy. This is where I will give Kayley props. Her main focus is her daughter but after meeting Ben she realizes maybe life is worth living again.
"Dis my Daddy," she said, beaming as she heard her voice go throughout the tent. "He wuv me. And my mommy. A ho lot. He kiss us. And he yummy."
That quote melted me. And the tissues were needed again. This isnt just a story of loss. It is a story of true love, loss, greif, hope, and possibly life again.
Living Again is a book you definitely need to have your tissue box handy. It tells the beautiful love story of Kayley and Alex that was cut short by tragedy. Alexis was the one thing in her life that would be a constant reminder of Alex. With this tragedy she did not want to get hurt by love again and thought she would never feel anything close to the way she loved Alex. With the encouragement of her best friend and the constant pursuit by Ben, see if Kayley can open up and fall in love again. There will be several challenging obstacles that you have to read if they end up together or not. This was an emotional read but an amazing book. Go get yourself a copy.
Living Again was a good read for me. However, I felt it was a bit too long. This is a sad story with an eventual HEA. I cried more than a couple times. I loved the hero Ben and the lil princess Lexie. Ben is a good book boyfriend for me. There were great secondary characters in the book. Overall a good read for a long winter weekend. :)
I recently came across this book after so many of my fellow bloggers were raving about it. So, I figured what the heck, let me try this baby out. Let me just say that this book was absolutely phenomenal!! I am completely and utterly shocked at how great this book truly is. Just reading the description, I knew to be prepared with tissues to alleviate the water works...well, I was not prepared enough. Wow! Let's start from the beginning...
Kayley Carlson's life was perfect. She had a great job, adoring parents, a cute little house, an amazing husband, and a baby on the way. How sweet right?? Psst, yeah I was jealous. lol. Unfortunately, her life took a horrible turn and her husband Alex passes away after being involved in a deadly car accident; only one month before her due date. This all happens within the first chapters. L.L. Collins had me balling like a baby; I could not help it. I felt crushed and defeated. I wanted to cry right along-side Kayley. How can someone go through all that and still survive; let alone, take care of a newborn?? With the help of her parents and her best friend, Emily, Kayley raises her daughter, Alexis as a widow. But, she's not exactly "living". She's stagnant, stalemate, oblivious to her surroundings. She goes through each day as a robot, hidden from the world and sheltered as her heart is still trying to piece itself back together.
It's one year later and Alex's suits are still in the closet; his shoes are still by the door; his cologne is still on the nightstand; Kayley hasn't recovered yet. On her daughter's first birthday, Kayley is rushed to the hospital after Alexis has a seizure. She's back in the same hospital where her husband died a year ago; except this time, her daughter is the patient. Luckily, LL.Collins is not that cruel and little baby Alexis is all healthy. This whole scene, I was on the edge of my seat. Talk about anxiety attack!!
Then, Dr. Ben Nichols arrives and there is an instant attraction between him and Kayley. Ben tries to get to know Kayley better but she's scared of opening up to people again. She has lost so much, how can she even think about dating someone? It's just too soon for her. She can't forget her husband. But with the help of Emily, Ben is given the chance to prove to Kayley that he can show her, not only to love again, but to live again.
The love story between them is so moving and magical; but yet believable at the same time. Ben is such a sweetheart and a true gentleman. From the very beginning, he cared for both Kayley and Alexis deeply. Plus he has a bangin hot body, a kick-ass Camaro, and a great job as a pediatrician. Oh and don't forget all of the romantic gestures. I just loved Dr. Yummy!! I might even have my husband read this book, so he can get a few pointers...lol. The love scenes were hot but not too erotic which was good. It was more about the emotion than the physical connections, and I loved that!
Kayley is such a strong character, yet she didn't even know it. I think that's why I connected with her the most. Even though she lost her husband and her life was practically crap, she didn't blame the world. She kept on going as best she could. I also loved all of the supporting characters; especially Emily and Rachel. They are the best friends a girl could ask for...always trying to do what's right for you, even though you might not agree.
I was so glued to this book; I stayed up until 4am just to finish it!! Yes, it's that freakin' good!!! I am so happy I read this book. Yes, its a tear jerker; actually it made me ugly cry. After finishing the novel, my husband asked me about it, and as I was describing the plot, I cried again! L.L. Collins, what have you done to me? It is about 24 hours later, and I kid you not, I could probably cry right now. But it's not sad tears; its tears of happiness and joy! Happiness for reading such an awesome love story and joy for being so proud of L.L. Collins. I cannot believe this is her debut novel! This story rocked!! All I can say, is that I am an official "fan" of hers; well, actually more like stalker...lol
This book is on my list of top 5 books I have read this year and I've read almost 100 books this year! Everyone needs to read this book. Just do it!!
I cannot wait until the next book, Reaching Rachel comes out next year...whoohoo!
Congratulations on your debut L.L. Collins! You truly are an amazing and talented author and you have just gained a new fan! <3
