This classic has aged really well!
I try to read a few classics each year and I’m glad I picked this novel up.
Rebecca gives you mystery, romance and secrets all in a stunning way.
It tells the story of a young girl who is swept off her feet by an older man with lots of money and property — and even more heartache in his past with his late wife Rebecca.
It’s a slow plot in the beginning because I believe Daphne du Maurier was building up secrets and mystery. About half way in the book, you finally realize that Manderley is not all as it seems.
There’s too many secrets about Mrs. Danvers, Rebecca’s cousin Favell, and Mr. de Winter’s relationship with his late wife. You get hooked on the mystery!
If you can, try to avoid reviews that reveal too much about this plot. I was glad I read this knowing virtually nothing about the characters or book.
I believe it greatly enhanced my reading experience!

I am! The writing is so descriptive. I just got to a part in the book in where Mrs. Danvers is not all she appears to be. It would be so hard to be Mrs. de Winter and living with a ghost of a wife. I would hate it!
How are you liking it? You might finish it before me. I'm reading two books at the same time. ha!
I will check it out. Thanks Teresa!
Teresa wrote: "There's also an old black and white movie of it with Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton. Burton is so young in it. Good film." I will check this movie out. I'm sure this book would be amazing as a movie!
Amy, I feel completely the same. I feel so sorry for her with how everything is Rebecca's things and everyone keeps comparing the two. Mrs. de Winter DOES need a freaking hug. LOL
