The Alpha's Mate (Huntsville Pack, #1)

** spoiler alert **
I had struggled with the first in the series Make Her Howl but wasn't exactly sure why and as I already had this as part of a box-set (Fated Mates: The Alpha Shifter Boxed Set I decided to carry on and see how it went.
The book is written in the first person and I really don't like books given from that point of view. There is only one author I manage to put my dislike aside for (and that is Kristen Ashley) and although I love her I really do have to be in the right mood to read her work. So it was always gonna take a special type of author to make me read in that narrative mode. Unfortunately, for me Michelle Fox doesn't fall into that category, that's not to say her writing is particularly bad, it just means that she is not for me and there will be others out there who do like her - it really is just a personal choice!
I did like the premise of the story and that's why I continued reading. However I did have a major problem with Jackson, he just didn't come across as the sexy Alpha male and I am afraid I didn't have a very good image of him in my head. All the man ever wanted to do was get his dick wet, rather than talking, communicating and reassuring the woman who was supposedly his mate, a woman that he couldn't live without, his answer was to f$$k her brains out! Poor Chloe had no idea how to live in pack life as she was always excluded as considered a 'null' (Never shifted into a wolf) and basically treated like she was a leper and didn't exist. Her parents had died when she was a young teenager and rather than anyone else take her in she had to raise herself. The pack Alpha had sort of kept an eye on her and given her extra time to 'bring her wolf' but she was now 25 and he had no choice but to ask her to leave....But along came Jackson who knew how to 'bring her wolf' and of course that was to shag her. Now that she could shift and Jackson had declared her as his mate not only did she have to put up with the resentment of the pack (Jackson was lined up to be the next Alpha so Chloe was the Alpha bitch) but also had to put up with a stream of Jackson's ex women whose noses had been put out of joint as they had been vying to become his mate. Oh, and she also had to put up with threats and nasty behaviour from one of his old pack mates (He was raised in a different Pack) who considered herself to be Jackson's mate despite them never having had a relationship and Jackson seeing her as a sister/friend. Every time Chloe voiced her concerns about lack of pack knowledge, how people were treating her, how his old pack mate was being nasty to her behind his back, or how vicious his ex women were being he just told her to stop worrying, that she was his mate and then distract her with sex!
I just didn't feel the connection between Jackson and Chloe which really spoiled the story. There wasn't really anything else to latch onto as it just revolved mainly around them, 2 vicious women and a little bit about the current pack Alpha. We never really got to know much about anyone else so I can't even say that I would like Ms Fox to tell their story.
Would I read anything else written by MF?....Errr, probably not, I just don't think she is for me.
