3.5 stars: Best in the series...enjoyable shapeshifter romance
Entertaining shapeshifter romance with appealing characters. High level of suspense towards the end kept me on the edge of my seat. Good snarky dialogue made me laugh out loud several times. Like the other books, I would have liked the romantic relationship to be a little more developed. However, the plotline in this book was stronger than in previous books in the series.
The world building around being a shapeshifter, pack organization, etc. was a bit weak in the first two books, but the author did a better job with it in this installment. The part when Max explained the key pack roles and the Marshall position were interesting, and seeing the process how the Marshall accepted the mantel and how he could sense when packmates were in pain.
This installment introduced some interesting new wolf pack characters, e.g., Richard the alpha, and it hints he is being setup as a main character to mate with Belle in a future book.
