There has never been a book more not for me than this one. I am extremely disappointed. I wasn't expecting this to be Chaucer or anything, but I liked Bentley's True Love series so I was hoping to enjoy Gable as well.

Reasons this book wasn't for me:

1. Written in past tense. I loathe when the book opens with the narrator saying something along the lines of "I never expected it to be like this. This is my story. Here's how I came to love him." I don't like this storytelling method.

2. Slut shaming. The MC slut shames another girl for wearing an outfit she doesn't like. THEN, immediately after this, the MC gets out of the car in the rain wearing a white romper. Obviously the hero can now see everything through it- even her hard nipples because he's so hot.

3. The book seems to want to emulate the success of Beautiful Disaster/the Maddox Brothers (nothing wrong with that, those books are wildly successful), but imo does so poorly. Gable isn't just a bad boy, he's down right offensive. I couldn't take the way he "talks dirty" to Scout in the middle of a college class. It was gross.

4. The info dumps. I had to learn all about Scout and her family full of people with stupid names through one giant info dump. "Let me tell you about my family." Then, I learn all about the Powers brothers the same way. Gable was described the same way- A giant paragraph of adjectives. Lazy storytelling.

Obviously, this wasn't my bag, but I do think it will find an audience. Happy reading, everyone!

The whole "this is my story" thing is pretty cheesy to me, but I still have high hopes for this book. I'm a fan of Bentley's other novels."
