I'm a big fan of Ms. Vitsky's work, and I'm always excited to find a new story to read. This one is the sequel to Mistress on Her Knees. Despite my usual love for her work, this was one story that left me unsure how I felt.
As far as the writing, it's as beautiful as ever. The phrasing is lovely, and the imagery is vivid without being overly descriptive. The characters are complex and interesting, with rich histories that play into the power dynamics between them. Graciela and Trinity both have good points and flaws, and each has her own set of needs. I admit I've always been on Trinity's side (I think I relate to her more), but Graciela grew on me.
I also always appreciate the way Ms. Vitsky works themes of repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation into the story. I think that's what ended up leaving me uncomfortable in this one. Usually, I feel a sense that the reconciliation is mutual and even though spanking/discipline will continue to be part of the relationship, it never feels conditional. In this one, it felt conditional, and there were some elements which felt as though consent was absent or unclear. It's possibly personal preference (these are literally the only BDSM-themed stories I will read). But it still disappoints me not to absolutely be in love with a favorite author's story.
Despite that, I would still recommend this highly to fans of Ms. Vitsky or fans of F/f stories in general. It's still well-written and interesting. I recommend reading the first part and possibly the other stories in which these characters appear beforehand, though.
I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
