Merrick (The Vampire Chronicles, #7)

From the Saga of The Vampire's Chronicles, I was still pending to read Merrick, Vittorio and the Vampire Armand so I decided to start by Merrick. One of the reasons was that I wanted to read Rice in its purest style again because I was very disappointed when I read "The Prince Lestat," her latest novel.
Although this, Merrick is still different from the rest of the saga of Vampire's Chronicles novels. The main character is a witch and therefore, the book is a mix of the known world of vampires and a new and full of mysteries world of witches. The combination seemed excellent for my taste but if I have to be honest I still prefer full vampire stories. On of the things I loved the most is how Rice reveals us a different New Orleans, she immerses us in a more stifling and esoteric city, with a highly charged atmosphere that sometimes seems solid. Overall it is a novel that I liked a lot, I can't say it's my Anne Rice's favorite novel. It's an ideal reading for all fans of Rice and for all slight horror genre book readers.

De la Saga Cónicas Vampíricas aún tenía pendientes por leer Merrick, el vampiro Armand y Vittorio, así que decidí empezar por Merrick. Hacia tiempo que no leía Anne Rice en su estado más puro, y con eso me refiero a la profunda decepción que sentí al leer "El Príncipe Lestat", la última novela de Rice.
Aún así Merrick es una novela diferente al resto de la saga de crónicas vampíricas. El personaje principal, es una bruja y por lo tanto el libro está entre dos aguas del ya conocido mundo de los vampiros con un nuevo y exótico mundo mucho más esotérico y lleno de misterios como es el de las brujas. La combinación me pareció excelente aunque para mi gusto sigo prefiriendo las historias de vampiros antes que las de brujas. Rice nos descubre una Nueva Orleans algo diferente, más asfixiante, con una atmosfera tan cargada que a veces parece sólida. En general es una novela que me ha gustado bastante, pero no puedo decir que sea mi favorita. Es un libro ideal para todos los fans de las novelas de Rice y del género del terror ligero.
