"You're a lioness, not a lamb, and you don't need to apologize for it. You're overprotective and fiercely loyal. None of those are bad qualities. They're your strengths and I've always admired you for embracing them."

So, I'm going to sound a bit like a parent on this one. I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed in this book. Breaking Him was one of my top favorite reads of 2015, I loved it so much and I loved Scarlett and Dante so much. So maybe my expectations of this book were too high, but after the brilliance of the first one, I expected RK to deliver brilliance in the follow up and that didn't happen.

Breaking Her picks up kind of where we left off. A few days/weeks before I think timeline wise. The first 20% of this book, I was bored. Dante and Scarlett weren't together much, past or present and they are what I was looking forward to the most. I will say the book did pick up after the first 20-25% and got better from there.

"It is much easier to hate someone who you're certain has wronged you than it is to hate yourself."

What I did like was R.K.'s writing style, she has a beautiful way with words, that's never going to change. There were also some great moments from the past perspective that were little touches of magic interspersed throughout the book. I liked we got to see more of their past relationship and how special it was. Of the book as a whole, I enjoyed about half of it altogether and wasn't in love with the other half.

My heart broke for Scarlett in a lot of this book, there was a point at which I started to feel sooooooooo bad for her, wanting it to stop. She's an admirable character and I loved her, she's my favorite part of this duet. Strong female characters need to be more present in the romance genre, and no one writes them better than Lilley.

And I will say one more thing, and please note this did not affect my rating at all but it needed to be said. If I am going to pay for a book, I don't want to see spelling and grammatical errors in it. And especially since this book was a bit more expensive than others. Errors take me out of the reading experience and instead of enjoying it, I am distracted by what's wrong. Again this doesn't affect my rating, that was all based on the content of the book.

"Do you love me at least as much as you hate me?"

Didi Spot on review, Rachel! I agree. I went back and forth with Scarlett, liking her and then feeling like she was making such horrible decisions. You're so right about the $$ of this book! It was too much imo, and errors shouldn't have been present. xx

Alihyland Very well said. I felt the EXACT same way.

Jen Excellent, honest review Rachel, and I can totally appreciate you opinion on the errors of the book. I am like you; (especially when the book is on the more expensive side) I expect the book to be free of mistakes etc...It really does take you out of the moment when there are mistakes. I have heard that this second book isn't as good as the first, and now I am really confused about whether or not to bother with this series!! LOL Oh the dilemma!

Thanks Jen! Normally it doesn't bother me, but usually it happens in arcs, not finished products. If you do read these, I hope you enjoy! The first book was magic.

Livia I'm sorry you didn't enjoy this sequel as much as their first novel. I reread book 1 before I dove in, and I'm sure that helped increase my enjoyment of the conclusion to their tumultuous love story. And mistakes always take me out of the story as well (as in I highlight and mark them, nerd that I am). So hearing that this one had one too many mistakes in print format makes me really glad I chose to listen to the audiobook version rather than read either my paperback or e-book copy.
