Lame, lame, lame.
I listened to the audiobook and this may have made it even worse than actually reading it.
I'd like to do a word count and see how many times the words thanks and thank you come up.
And the dialog - wonderful lines like "I'll immortalize you forever" and "I WAS your sister".
And there are going to be 6 more of these?
It gets two stars instead of one because the historical aspect was interesting. I didn't know that about the Christ the Redeemer statue.
On the whole it is pretty predictable and I'm pretty sure I know who Pa Salt will turn out to be.
Will not put myself through the hell of listening to another 6x16 CDs worth of this.
The idea was good but LR could've used a lot of editing.
How did she win any prizes?

I don't plan to read the rest of the series either. I've read and enjoyed other books by this author but not this one.

I am half way through listening to this audiobook and seriously considering stopping. I have wondered if actually reading it would make the book better?? Sometimes it is the narrator that I can't get into, but in this case I think it is the book itself and that the narration just highlights the issues I have with the writing. Makes me sad ,because the premise had promise and it had such good ratings from most people. I guess it's a love it or leave book.
I wish I had read your review. I wholeheartedly agree with your observation about thanks, thank you come up. I Will add “of course” and “pale” to the list. 🤮🤮 Maybe this is one that should’ve been read not listened to.

I would not have wanted to waste my time actually reading it. I listened in the car during my commute.

The word thank comes up 100 times in 629pgs. I checked. I'm busy reading it as part of a book club with my two sisters and I am unashamed to say that I tried finding a free audiobook online (just so I could read it at 1.5x and get through it!)
Agree. I alternated between reading and listening to the audiobook, but I liked the print version better (just barely!) because the reader’s accent was so annoying.
Also agree that it’s terribly obvious who Pa Salt is. I’m not intrigued enough by any of the sisters’ stories to want to continue the series.
