it was ok

Have you ever worked retail? I have and it is truly a horror story. Anyone that has ever worked in customer service knows one thing really well: The customer ISN'T always right. So to base a book, a horror book no less, on a haunted version of IKEA or Orsk as it is named in the book is such a brilliant and unique concept.

However, that is where my enjoyment ended.

This book is neither funny nor scary. The cast of characters were all annoying and acted like 14 year old kids rather than the adults they were. This is basically a gory version of a Scooby Doo episode. I grew incredibly tired of this book. Almost like you would a real retail shift. Thank gawd it's over. *punches clock*

I know, right? I was super disappointed with this one. Sometimes I really hate being an outlier but I have to be honest.

Shainlock Ohhh. I thought it was supposed to be... bad... that’s why I liked it...
So yes, I like your take on it.

Haha! It definitely has a slapstick feel so I can totally see why so many people adored this. This is a case of me feeling too old to truly appreciate it.

Thanks, Suzy! 💜 Right now I'm trying to decide what to read next. This is always the hardest decision of my day. Ha!

Kelly (and the Book Boar) Oh rats. I grabbed this one on my "oh my god the library is closing indefinitely - check out allllll the books" trip. I'll lower my expectations.

I think I was the wrong reader. People love this book and love Grady Hendrix but I really struggled with it.

Char Aww, what a bummer. I love this author, but this is the only one of his I haven't read yet.

JanB I haven't worked retail but I've worked up close and personal with people and agree it takes the patience of Job. lol. Too bad the book didn't deliver on a great premise!

Terrie Robinson I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as I did, Michelle but I totally understand it's not for everyone. I love your creative review as much as I love Grady's writing! :-D
