2.5 Stars.
This is a hard book to wrap my thoughts around. Honestly, I didn't like it at first; It felt like we were thrown right into the middle of the story, so it was hard to centre myself and follow a character I didn't care about yet. I eventually managed to warm up to things, but it was a struggle.
I ended up liking our cast of characters and really wanted the best for them. This didn't work entirely in my favour though because it made the ending we got unsatisfactory. I despised Vicky's family for the whole duration of this, apart from Becca because she actually got a redemption arc. Her father and Step Mother, however, just no. They were awful throughout.
I also feel the need to mention how sensitive the subject matter of this book was. It deals with suicide and depression as well as a plethora of other things and yet, most of the time, it felt quite empty. I hold some of these issues quite close to my heart and they often make me incredibly emotional, so for this to not be the case here really says something about the writing. I only had a singular tear fall while reading this book when really, I should have been sobbing.
Anyways, this was fine although I'm not sure I'd say I enjoyed it, I just got used to what was happening. Gabriel was my favourite, I would have loved to have known how his story continues. I also thought the friendship between Vicky and E.M. was really sweet and not explored enough.
